Where did you read about it?

Doesn't that violate copyright laws?
I saw some commercial yesterday that was being advertised it was like superstar but it wasn't a sims or a maxis game I don't think.

i never heard of maxis deciding to make a sims 2 version of superstar, and it seems kind of repetative of them if they did do that. it probably is some big elaborate game hack, especially if they're not charging money and are having it free to download. if they start releasing it for money... that'd be a major problem. kind of weird how there'd be a commercial for it, though. o_O i'd have to see that to believe it.

i just used that amazing thing called google, and this turned up... http://www.sims2superstar.simmedia.co.uk/

looks like they made a couple trailers for the game, but i'd be surprised to see those on tv...

no, it doesn't because they clearly state that it's an "unofficial expansion pack" but really all it is, at least it seems, is a couple of families, a couple of lots, a few new meshed objects and this camera they rigged up to make the video show on the tv. so really they're not doing anything that other downloading/modding sites aren't... they're just packaging it all together as one deal and calling it an EP. it's not even against the copyright rules if they make people pay for their download cause it's the same as going to these other pay sites to download stuff. they created their objects so they are allowed to sell them. but yeah, i don't think we'll be seeing their ads on tv or anything. this was actually the first i've heard of it... but you know, a lot of other sites should take a hint from this and start creating unoffical booster packs. I know that TSR would be prepped for that perfectly because of their monthly themes. They would already have a beach pack, a farm pack, a medieval pack, a halloween pack etc. but there, i guess they would have to have the artists sign a waiver or they would have to pay the artists royalties from the sales of said booster packs.

Ohh ok now I see, but wouldn't be against the law for them to use the sims name?

i'm no lawyer, but i think it's more a breach of trademark. if people try to sell a product under the phrase "the sims" then i'm sure maxis would have legal grounds to sue. again, like i said before, they're not selling the "unofficial" EP, so i don't think they'll get their panties in a bunch over it.

amandapace mentioned this already when it comes to things like sims pay sites... i'm sure they can get away with it because it's not like they're marketing their products under the specific name "the sims" on a wide scale, or something like that. i think their artistic freedom allows them to claim ownership of their objects and stuff.

hm..
weird.... Not much more to say about it..

They are not trying to sell it.. so there is really nothing wrong with it. Could the advertisment you saw on TV have been for "The Movies", another sim-like game but not made by Maxis?

Um... how is The Movies THAT much like The Sims 2? sweatdrop But i've never played Superstar so maybe they're similar... I dunno. But I have The Movies and I think they're both pretty different.

...anyhow. I don't think i'll download it. The only things I like downloading are hair tones, which unfortunately never work. If I hear good things about it I might but there's a really small chance.

why would someone make Superstar for the sims2 when it was already made for the sims1? thats a bit pointless to me since its nothing new.... :/
PostPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2006 8:15 am

because it was so popular and a lot of people want those features in their sims 2. same reason everyone is screaming for pets in the sims 2. I'm sure it's just cause they were bored and had nothing better to do with their time!

I think they're making "The Sims 2: Glamour Life" It's not really an expansion, just a booster pack.
