LAY HO!(I don't know pinyin, but it's hello in cantonese!)
My name is Sarah and I'm trying to learn cantonese. My boyfriend's family is from Hong Kong, and I would like to be able to meet his extended family some day and be able to speak to them in Cantonese. Cantonese is very hard to learn because there are barely any resources on the language. It's very saddening! I found an awesome podcast called "naked cantonese." It's free and you can also download an MP3 version if you google it. I'm also very lucky; my boyfriend's family speaks mostly cantonese amongst each other and the cooks at his restaurant barely speak english, so I'm fortunate to be pretty immersed in the language. I'm planning on learning Traditional Chinese for reading. I found a book called "Remembering the Hanzi" by John Heisig, and it takes a very different approach to learning chinese characters, but I find that it works quite well.
I'm 21 years old and I live in NW USA. My favorite food is Har Gow(it's a dim sum dish!). I also love sushi, especially Unagi and smoked squid! I listen to literally everything, but right now my favorite artists are Kid Cudi, Lady Gaga, SNSD(korean), Super Junior(korean), and BoA(also korean.) I'm a huge Booty Grab fan and you can usually catch me either in my booty grab guild or in my booty grab thread.
I don't know that much cantonese other than what is usually spoken around eating time, such as(sorry, I only know how to speak these, so they will be written poorly): Ngou Tungu A! (I'm hungry) Ngou Bao La! (I'm full) Sic Fan! (Meal Time, literally "eat rice" ) Yum cha (going to go to a dim sum place to drink tea)
I know a few random words that ring a bell when I hear them, and I'm starting to reach a point of "hearing" fluency... I can figure out what someone is talking about, but I have no idea how to form sentences of my own.

So hi, everyone, I'm Eilzhaise. I am 100% Chinese, and I've been speaking Mandarin since I was born. Cantonese is pretty hard for me, but I can speak it... just barely well enough for others to understand. I can't write Chinese unless I use pinyin. I started to lose my Mandarin and the little Cantonese I know a couple years ago, and now I really want to get some of it back because I really love the Chinese culture and I''m missing out on a lot of it because I can't really read and speak it anymore. I love manga/anime, art, and pandas. Also, I'm a proud Christian. heart 希望大家能多多指教! Um, I think it translates into "I hope I can learn something from everyone!"
