It was an unbearably hot day in Kaede’s view, but then he was completely like a Labrador and could not stand summer heat waves, or any heat waves. Winter was most likely his favourite month, or spring with it’s still ice-dusted temperatures. Not even the shade granted in the alleyways was much reprieve with the muggy air gripping at his throat. It was a stupid, stupid intolerance really because he seemed to be suffering ten times worse then anyone else, they all seemed to be enjoying the warm climate. He sat down in the alley by the group of men who generally played games there, legs folded underneath him as he watched the game with slight interest, his head leaning against the wall he sat slumped against. So he had one four times…the woman had won twice…what were they betting again?
He didn’t know and at the minute, he was getting slightly irritated. He was uncomfortable and bored, the only card game he had ever really liked playing had been Uno. He stood up and absently waved a hand in farewell, deciding that if he walked and didn’t think about the heat, then he wouldn’t have to worry about it. He was just too used to the cold he supposed, a fan had always been present in his room and the living room when he had been living, so he had flopped out in front of it on hot days, basking in the cold wind it blew at him when he cranked it up to max. His lover had been amused, though a frown lay present between his brows, the name still lost to him. He was just a black shape of a man in his memory. Though he knew he had been the only man, having not really attracted much female attention in school. His sister had told him he had been too pretty and that girls probably didn’t like it very much. Kaede chuckled, enjoying the small reel of memories he had managed to recall. It was like a favourite, treasured film that had been lost in the attic for years.
He had one thing that he loved about summer. Butterflies. He had at one time tried to collect them and display them, but had always set them free. He’d not had the will to pierce their wings. He started off down a random street, brushing his hands through his bangs as he walked with a look of absent interest. He wanted suddenly, to seek out some butterflies and watch them flitter around in bright patterns of colour and shape.

The summer heat was almost unbearable as Chiharu continued to search for a place in the shade or something to vent out the heat. Summer had never been one of her favorite seasons. The extreme heat repelled her. In fact, she had never been a fan of Winter either. The extremes of those too seasons were unbearable to her. She wished that it could be Spring or Autumn about now. The less extremes of the seasons.
Her search for a cooler place had ended with no avail. She had tried the shade, but even it couldn't rid the air of its heat waves. The alleyways were much cooler, but the musky scent that clung around in them were almost as bad as the heat. Chiharu sighed as she exited the alleyway that she had been in for the past few minutes. As she left her eyes caught sight of another person walking away from a nearby alleyway. At first she thought that it had been a woman, but as she blinked she figured that it was a trick of the light that would make her think that way. The person she saw had definitely been male.
Giving up on her search for a cooler place, knowing that it was pretty much futile Chiharu wandered down a random street (Same street that Kaede is on btw). There were beautiful flowers blossoming in the luscious green grass and small butterflies hovering about. Maybe Summer wasn't all bad, there were an abundant number of butterflies this season after all. Then flash of bright orange caught her attention. Upon turning Chiharu's eyes set upon a brightly colored Monarch butterfly. She smiled and admired its beauty from afar when it started flying towards her. Slowly, she stretched her arm out at the butterfly as not to frighten it. The butterfly swooped down gracefully and landed on two of her outstretched fingers and lingered there.

Kaede watched the natural display of colours and wings with fascination, momentarily forgetting his discomfort over the weather. He had loosened his obi and let the top of his kimono open up a little more so it displayed more of his pallid-toned chest. He had wanted butterflies and had only just noticed that they were there. He heard footsteps behind him and turned his head a little, peeking through his hair at the girl who stood not far away, her arm out to coax a butterfly to land.
He stared down at his hands, wondering if this would be a good thing to do as well. This end of the street was quiet and rather empty. The butterflies flitted around the flowers lazily, the Monarch's being the most colourful he could see at the moment. He turned his head fully to watch the girl, smiling at the butterfly that had perched on her fingers. She was a gentle person then?
"Hello." He greeted in a soft tone, wandering a few steps closer to her, his hands clasped behind his back as he watched her. She could ignore him if she wanted, but he somehow doubted that she would. He passed a hand across his forehead, not pleased that his bangs were slightly damp. Ugh.

Chiharu had been so into looking over the butterfly that she hadn't noticed someone approach until the footsteps drew closer. As she turned to see who it was the butterfly sprang up from her hand and drifted off somewhere to join the other butterflies. At first she figured that he was just walking by, but then he greeted her. She smiled in return and replied, "Hey there."
Upon closer inspection of the newcomer she realized that it was the person she had seen before back in the alleyways. She hadn't been wrong back then, he really did have quite a few feminine features about them, but he was clearly a male. The light pink of a blush danced upon her face for a few moments as she noticed that the top of his kimono was revealing more of his chest than when properly closed. She let out a light cough to clear away the blush.
Chiharu couldn't help but sigh when a cloud that had been blocking bits of the sun's rays shifted to a side making the bright light dance upon her head. She would've liked to move then and there, due to the discomfort the light provided, but it would be impolite considering the fact that she was in a conversation with someone.

Kaede smiled, watching the girl with soft, brown eyes. It was lovely seeing people who took the time to actually take everything in and not rush ahead. But then...here he guessed it was more commonplace to know everything about the surrounding areas. "That butterfly liked you." He commented, turning to try and pick it out amid the myriad of butterflies. But alas, he had completely lost it. He held out a hand hopefully, wondering if he would be just as liked by them.
He peeked at the girl out of the corner of his eye, having a vague recollection of seeing her somewhere amongst a crowd. Though he couldn't pinpoint it exactly. He looked perplexed at the blush, wondering if heatstroke was going to claim her if she continued as she was. "...uhm...are you quite all right? Maybe we should find you a drink and some shade?" He asked, even when she coughed. Was she ill? He frowned more, still completely perplexed.
He had forgotten the heat by then, but when the clouds opened up and threw it at them brighter he groaned in complaint. He peered up, shielding his eyes with a hand, dropping his outstretched hand. "Damn heat." He murmured in an unhappy tone.

Chiharu smiled back in response, "You think so?", she had never really thought deeply about that before. She'd simply raise her hand into the air slowly and eventually a butterfly would land. It could be a talent, or she just attracted butterflies. She watched quietly as the other raised his hand into the air hoping for the same effect, but alas, no butterfly landed upon his outstretched fingers.
Chiharu blinked as soon as the question left his mouth. That was completely unexpected. Did she look like she was about to get a heatstroke? But either way there was wisdom in his words. Shade would be a good idea regardless. "I'm fine... Some shade would be nice though.", she replied trying not to sound too perplexed by his earlier question.
Chiharu turned her head slightly and looked around to see if they actually could find some shade around here. There really weren't an ample amount of trees on this street so they'd have to go out in search of some if they wanted some shade. That was unfortunate, anymore walking and her feet would fall off!
Chiharu nodded in agreement with his statement. The Summer heat was always unbearable to her. "I'm Chiharu Fujiyomi by the way.", she said with a light smile on her face.

"I do. They aren't too fond of me today, I think they like flying more." He commented with a sheepish little smile, directing his gaze to the butterflies again. He'd always liked them and moths, though only a select few species of moths that were pretty and not annoying. His smile tugged up a little more and lost it's sheepish edge as that thought filtered through his head. It had indeed been a while since he had seen butterflies. Maybe he was too excited to see them and that made them even more flighty?
His gaze flicked back to her and stayed when she answered his question, a slight frown on his face. "You just looked a tad uncomfortable..." He murmured by ways of explanation of his question, cheeks pinking slightly at how utterly forward he had been to suggest it. He lifted a hand and ran it through his hair, flicking his gaze down slightly, still on her but on her shoulder, not her face. "I think there may be some trees a little ways down the path, through another alleyway." He said, trying to keep his tone light and hide how silly he suddenly felt, the heat was obviously muddling his brain. His thoughts were like wet mud at the moment.
"Oh." He murmured, smiling at Chiharu when she introduced herself. "My name is Kaede Kurimu. Nice to meet you, Fujiyomi-kun." He replied quietly, smiling widely again. Another new person, and the farthest thing from Nami's personality. Which was a nice change, his wallet seemed to be getting awfully thin lately.

"Maybe's it's just not your day~", Chiharu commented, not in a rude way of course. Butterflies and moths alike were favorites of hers. She didn't get how people could just dislike them and think of them as pests. They were just beautiful creatures. Sure moths got annoying sometimes, but she never disliked them for that trait. Everyone's got their ups and downs.
"I guess I did?", she mused somewhat absent-mindedly. She wasn't prepared to tell him the real reason for her blush earlier on. It just would make the situation a little awkward and heck, who knows what he'd interpret from her words. She nodded lightly at his statement, the idea of going back into the murky alleyways didn't quite appeal to her, but there wasn't necessarily a better solution for this situation. "I'm ready when you are.", she said while gesturing toward the alleyway with one hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you then, Kaede, and please, just call me Chiharu.", she replied. For some odd reason something in the back of her head told her that this wasn't the first time that she'd talked to Kaede before, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Kaede chuckled. "That to. I am never at my best on warm days." He replied, smiling warmly at Chiharu. It was easy being around her, like breathing. Which was odd, he couldn't quite recall it ever being so natural to talk to someone new before. Generally it was awkward for a while. He sighed and grabbed his hair into a big clump at the back, nabbing a ribbon he kept around his wrist off it and tying it back, seemingly looking relieved by it. "That's better." He sighed happily. Now his hair was back he felt less suffocated.
"I think you did." He commented with a small smile and a shrug. "But it is uncomfortable in the sunlight at the moment." He added, turning to her. He smiled and reached out, gently grabbing her wrist as if on reflex. Again, it felt natural. He frowned lightly, a slight crease between his eyebrows being the only hint of it on his face. Had he met her somewhere before?
"Chiharu."
He said the name as if testing it and was surprised at how normal it sounded. Something in his head was telling him that this was a normal thing to call her. He tugged gently on her wrist and led her down the pathway and into an alleyway. Luckily, this one was shorter then the others and they soon escaped the mugginess of it. He took in a breath and sighed, glad that there was a small copse of trees nearby with ample shade for them to take refuge in.
He dropped her wrist and wandered into the shade of the tree, spreading his arms out and collapsing on the grass with a content sigh. It was cool here, much cooler then in the sunlight. He lay on his back and stared at the sky through the breaks in the leaves and branches. Around Chiharu he found that his niggling worry about having a near enough blank past was all but gone. Another puzzling thing about her. She felt familiar.

Chiharu chuckled lightly. It seemed that she wasn't the only one affected by the weather today. She watched quietly as he tied his hair up with the ribbon. This feeling was a rather awkward one. She felt that she knew him from before... No, she was almost positive that she knew him from somewhere else, but where? Every time she tried to dig deep into her memory for the answers all the faces she saw were fuzzy and the voices unclear.
Chiharu simply shrugged hoping to clear themselves of that subject. She'd probably start blushing again should they continue. "Mmhmm.", she agreed with a nod. She almost flinched at the warmth of his hand as he reached out to grab her wrist, but made no attempt to stop him and followed along after him towards their shade.
She was pretty glad that the alleyway they had gone through was pretty short, otherwise the scent would float around them for a long persistent while like it had last time. Chiharu couldn't help but smile as they reached the shade of the trees. This was definitely better than the alleyways she'd been in for scattered moments of the day.
Chiharu plopped down next to Kaede and spread her arms out behind her, and looked up at the sky. The sun wasn't in the direction she was facing, fore it would've been pretty stupid to look straight into the sun, dead or alive. There was a light breeze around here and that felt amazing against the exposed back of her neck. The only thing that still bother her at this moment was the nagging familiarity about Kaede.

Kaede sighed as he laid on the grass, staring up at the sky. He could feel Chiharu next to him and it soothed him, as well as confused him. He wasn't used to feeling so at ease around a new person and it was odd! He only knew her name, that she didn't like heat and that she liked butterflies. They were alike, yes, but they were strangers to each other. He shut his eyes, trying to concentrate on the fuzzy blob of memories that tried to present itself every time he looked at Chiharu.
The breeze felt good and he arched up a little, letting it pass under him and against his back and neck. He then opened his eyes and looked at Chiharu, propping himself up on his elbows. "Do you feel better now?" He asked curiously, finding himself concerned for her. He felt a flash of something normal in this feeling, like this had happened before.
This was so weird.
He looked troubled as he stared at her, wondering what this was. "Have we met somewhere before, Chiharu?" He asked, hoping she would know. He could be forgetful, maybe that was it.

Chiharu watched the clouds silently for a while. There were a scarce number of them, but the ones that were there were nice and fluffy. It was times like these that almost made her wish she was a cloud. To be carefree and able to just float around lazily in the sky. That would be the life.
Being with Kaede seemed natural, like they'd done this in the distant past. No matter how hard she thought about it her mind turned up fuzzy pictures. The only thing she could remember as she pushed into her mind about Kaede was a very slight detail of someone she loved. It couldn't have been Kaede... Could it?
Chiharu snapped back into reality as Kaede asked his question. "Definitely. The breeze here is wonderful", she replied with a genuine smile on her face.
She blinked the moment the second question left Kaede's mouth. The thing she had been pondering for quite some time now. It couldn't be a coincidence that Kaede was thinking the same thing too. There had to be a basis that their thoughts were coming from. "I don't know... I feel like I remember you from somewhere though...", she mused in slight frustration. It was going to drive her crazy if she couldn't figure out how she knew Kaede.

Kaede's eyes were expectant as he waited for Chiharu to reply, his stomach developing butterflies. Why was he nervous and...excited? He pressed a hand on his stomach, fingers spread open in a thoughtful look. Why was the answer he wanted something he didn't know about, but wanted it all the same? He kept a slight smile on his face, though his eyes had taken on a brooding undertone. He rearranged his features then, not wanting to look unhappy or bothered around company.
He smiled at her when she replied. So it was a shared feeling.
He shifted to sit up properly and sat closer to Chiharu, looking her in the face. He was trying to find out just what exactly it was about her that set a feeling stirring in his heart. He was...fond of her already, which was surprising. They'd not even been acquainted for an hour yet! "I get the same feeling." He sighed, looking unhappy. "It's bugging me that I can't remember." He confessed.

Chiharu sighed. Even though Kaede got the same feeling that she did they were still in square one. Neither of them knew how or even why they knew each other already in a way. Even though she had just met Kaede less than an hour ago she was starting to grow rather fond of him. That was something that never happened with her, in fact the only thing that could stir that sort of reaction would have to be love at first sight wouldn't it? And she was almost positive that she wasn't in love with Kaede. But then again the day had already spouted so many surprises that anything could be possible.
Prompted by Kaede and her own arms cramping Chiharu sat up a little straighter as well. The only possibility that could possibly make sense at this point is that they knew each other when they were alive. She didn't want to jump to conclusions though. Despite that she had solid evidence that some experiences from when she was alive were forgotten. So it was probable that this was one of the things wasn't it?
"Well... I do have a theory on why we're getting this feeling.", she mused putting her index on her mouth and tapping it. Maybe if she told him about it he'd make sense of it and they could probably move to square two of this problem.

Kaede peered up at the sky again, his arms wrapped under his legs as he leaned forward, locking in place. His expression was thoughtful, though this time not holding any troubling quality. It was a curious, excited expression. Maybe she knew him from somewhere before! Could she be a piece to fit into the blank areas of his memory? Like a puzzle piece? Or was it best to simple forget his past life and move on? One thing was certain though. He was pretty sure he would never want to break contact with Chiharu now that he knew her. She calmed him. He liked that.
Knowing each other in a past life had been a thought that he crossed his mind momentarily, though he had let it drop. She would have been significant and not forgettable if the feeling enveloping him at the moment was anything to go by. But then...he couldn't remember his family's faces, nor that of Keisuke, who was still unnamed in his memory to Kaede. He was simply a blurred shape of a man. Chiharu would have at least been a blurred figure?
"Oh?" He looked at her, smiling in a way that was utterly intrigued with what she had to say. Anything that was said could be vital to bring them out of this blockade of theirs.
