Do pagans of any sort 'pray'? Well, perhaps in a manner of speaking, many of them do. There's even a book, "A Book of Pagan Prayer," by Ceisiwr Serith (isn't there a book for everything?) with suggested verses for many common occasions. Now, I'm not recommending this, nor am I saying it's not worthwhile - Cei is a decent sort in person but a bear in online debates (we have met). But do we 'pray'?
Well....... I'm not sure we're comfortable with the term, 'pray'. I would much rather call those words, when I want to address the spirits, the Gods and Goddesses, whoever is listening, an Invocation.

One Invocation I use all the time is when I see a dead creature, often by the side of the road. I will say to myself something along the lines of:
Goddess please gather this creature into your arms hold it close and love it in death as you loved it in life For it is one of yours May its passing have been swift and its future bright Take this creature close to your heart Blessed be those that are yours

I don't use "formal" prayers myself, but I talk to the goddess and the spirits all the time. I ask Her for help and advice, or I greet the plants and animals I see around me. I suppouse prayers are just another way to talk with nature, but I'm too... unorganized... to actually have something structurated sweatdrop

I doubt I say it quite the same way every time, when I see a dead creature by the side of the road. I'll admit that I'm only structured when I have set my mind to 'ritual mode'. Talking to plants comes naturally and I always talk to my usual critters....

Prayer is fine I think to be said because prayer is only words spoken to a higher being. If you look up the defining word of prayer it states that it is~~A reverent petition made to God, a god, or another object of worship.~~
But either way I'm sure what ever way worded its fine biggrin I went through this with some others who were afraid to tell a friend that they were praying for her because she wasn't sure she wanted to say the word prayer and she was kind of upset that her friend didn't like her post when she didn't say she was praying for her. I think its ok to say it but the full understanding of the listener may not be understood because if they are christian they will assume something different I suppose. Ah well.
