『 background 』»» 『 killed 』»» It was finally time for Rei to be born. Her mother and father were rushing frantically to the hospital. Due to their reckless and anxious driving, they got into an accident. Her father died right as the accident occurred but her mother survived just barely. They rushed her quickly to the hospital so they could take the baby out. The stress from after the accident and giving birth killed her. She had a choice, it was either let the baby die or die in place of her. Of course, she choose for the baby to live. Her last words were "Rei" and thus, the child was named Rei. After Rei was allowed to leave the hospital, her grandfather and grandmother took her in with open arms. They took care of her day and night but never mentioned the accident. They promised to tell her when she grew old enough. When was she going to be 'old enough' for the truth?
Her grandparents owned a dojo. After her grandparents took Rei in, their goal was to make her strong. It would reassure her parents in heaven that she would be able to protect herself. The dojo only allowed male students, but they made an exception for Rei. Rei was a natural. She copied what the masters did and added her own twists. Her competitive spirit against the boys drove her to the top, making her the best student there. She wasn't shy at all when it came to a duel. It didn't take long for her grandparents to see her talent. They started sending her to other dojos for more instruction of different techniques and tournaments. She brought pride to their dojo. She was happy and so were her grandparents until...
One day Rei was walking down the hallways of the dojo and overheard her grandparents speaking. They were debating on if they should tell Rei about her parents. Rei, being extremely curious, stayed and listened quickly behind the door. The debate went on long enough for her to get the whole story. She was the cause of both her parents deaths. If she wasn't going to be born, her father wouldn't of died in that car crash. If her mother didn't have her, she would still be alive.
Everything.
Was.
Her.
Fault.
That night she ran to the dojo training area and grabbed a katana. She started training rigorously not knowing what else to do. The only thing she could do was fight. She didn't help others; all she wanted was be the best by battering all her opponents down. She knew she worked hard for it but to her being the best in combat had no meaning. She grew angry and threw her katana against the door blindly. She didn't notice that someone was actually walking by. One of the dojo members that was staying over that night was accidentally sliced by the katana. She threw it hard enough to kill him. That boy was always kind and his dream was to be the best swordsman ever. How could she... By then, everything went black. She remembered hearing screaming and cries. Then she remembered being carried somewhere. Where...was she?
She was back in her room with her grandmother and grandfather watching over her. It didn't take her long to remember what happened. Her grandparents lied about the incident to everyone else to protect Rei. The death had an opposite affect on her. Instead of being torn apart by the incident, she became determined to fulfill the boy's dreams. With a force smile she returned to her ways of the sword. She worked even more diligently, ignoring the fact that because of her ways that someone died of it. She pushed that thought to the back of her mind. It was odd, after killing someone by the blade, she became less hesitate in tournaments. She wasn't afraid of going all out even if it meant injuring the other. She now knew the experience "real" combat and she knew she was strong enough to face it again if the time came.
