Fins, Flippers or what ever you want to call them... Do you love them or hate them? In other words, do you think they are Good, or Evil? I am quite positive that they are twisted EVIL twisted ! The ones that I use must be possesed because every time I use them, I just happen to twist my ankle or get masive blisters. Post your oppinion on fins here!

Completely evil, my foot always cramps when I wear them, which forces me out of the pool to uncramp my foot, and by the time I have, I've missed most of the exercise. Then, I get to repeat the fiasco....

I love 'em! When I was a swimmer, I loved doing kick sets and sprints - adding fins and making the pace times faster was exhilarating! I remember kicking freestyle in 1:03 for 100m kick long course once! The fastest I ever got without fins for 100m kick freestyle long course was 1:25.

Heh, one of the hardest sets I remember (this was during a training camp) included fins for part of it.

4x [4x25y underwater kick with fins no breathing on 20s;
2x50y best stroke (for non-breaststrokers, the breaststrokers were doing something else entirely) sprint with fins on 35s;
30s rest, take fins off;
100y kick best stroke (board optional) no fins ALL OUT (girls try to go under 1:00, guys try to go under 55s), on 2:30]

I was sad that I never made it under a minute, though I probably could have, had I had more rest. But that was the point of it, wasn't it? I maintained 13s for all the underwater 25's, 26s for the sprint 50's (I did free), and 1:05's for the 100 kick.

I don't use fins often in practice, but when I have I like them, when they fit. I know newer swimmers have used them to correct their kick, so they serve a purpose besides making one go fast. So, I give them my love. smile

I LOVE fins!!! We don't use them as often as we used to at swimming practices anymore, but when we FINALLY get to use them for butterfly, I'm always happy biggrin (lol, I wear socks with my fins XD)
