I have to ask. Which is your favorite impact toy and why?
Here are my thoughts on each of the aforementioned objects...
Flogs: I'm rather fond of these little things, actually. They can be moved so erotically and are so very versatile. They're also easy to handle in general. You can get anything from a heavy thud to a light slapping sting, and even slight variations in the size can do a lot for you. They're also rather easy to use on many different body parts, with different effects.
Crops: My favorite! This is and will always be my impact tool of choice. I don't know if I can even put into words what I feel about this thing. Perhaps it's how delicate it can seem, as smaller and generally more slender than the others. It's even easier to handle than the flog and very straight forward. The pony play connotations may have something to do with it. I just love this little toy altogether.
Whips: The stereotypical staple of the BDSM Lifestyle, so to speak. Yet, personally, I don't like these too much. Sure, I like the idea of it. Who doesn't like the image of a latex-clad Dominatrix wielding a whip before her helpless slave? I just find it impractical, though. It's almost awkward in its size compared to the other tools, and it's so damn hard to master. Kudos to those of you who work your a** off to tame this beast of a weapon, it's just not for me.
Paddles: I'd say this falls in roughly the same area as flogs and crops for me, though my love doesn't like them; they tend to be used as punishment for her. I guess I'd have to be in the right mood for this, really. They can create quite the impressive, resounding thud or smack sound, and half of this toy's appeal has to be the imagery of it all. I still like it, though.
So yeah, now it's your turn.

My Master uses a whip almost exclusively. The one we use is about 6 feet long. I don't so much view it as impractical but I do advise only using a whip of that kind if the dom has experience with it. A whip is hard to handle and use accurately in a way that is not damaging. My master knows the use of a whip as a weapon as well as a toy. I understand that most people do not have the level of familiarity with a whip.
I'm also very fond of crops. The sting created by a crop is like no other feeling. Flogs are useful at times when a whip is too large to be used affectively in the room. And while paddles are good, I am personally not a fan of them. I don't like the sensation and would prefer to be spanked with my Master's hand instead.

I've always heard them called floggers, not flogs. However, they are my preference, both to use (although I don't really do that anymore) and to have used on me. I have a wide variety of floggers from soft suede to heavy leather. I like that it's very possible to ramp up completely using nothing except a good quality flogger.
That said, nothing is better than the firm bare hand of a man who knows how to use it properly.

Sorry I've not been commenting on the responses I'm getting, but I do appreciate them. I may discuss further with you guys at some point.

I'm a whip man myself, specifically bull whips.
I love bull whips for a lot of reasons, one of them being the giant welts they leave on the body. I found those to be quite beautiful. Another reason would be the crack it makes, which is actually a small sonic boom. It's really fun when playing with a Sub to crack it and miss them completely, but to know that their heart's jumping because of the crack. That's the Sadist in me playing a little mind game.

I like all of them, used in the same play time, to add variety.

Ha! Crops are edging out whips by a mere inch.

I freaking love crops. Crops are amazing, they make me so... burning_eyes
Anyway, Crops are my favorite tool of choice, whether giving or receiving pain. I give it 5 stars out of 5 for control, 4 stars out of 5 for impact and 5 out of 5 for power.
Flogs are also my favorite, the impact is rather heavy though, other than sharp. But when it's used right, and in the right places, I'm sure I could explode from both flogging and being flogged.
Whips are too hard to control and their impact is too sharp, I would not want to use one of have one be used against me. Though, I am quite curious. I would love to try retraining myself to them. ninja
Paddles. No.... Just... No... *shudders*

I chose "Other" in the poll. What I love more than crops, floggers, whips, paddles, and the like is something that people sometimes overlook. The human hand. There's nothing like the sting of a hand in the right area with a controlled amount of pressure. The gentle caress of finger tips over a sensitive area after being struck is almost mind blowing.
The simple yet complicated techniques a hand could bring to the table is better than any store bought item.

I do agree that the hand can be rather nice sometimes. Especially for the soothing caress you speak about, as a sort of aftercare.

If I was using them on someone else, I'd say floggers or crops are my favourite. When they're being used on me, I'd have to go with whips or floggers.

I love crops used on me, though I also love useing crops and whips on others. I have only had the crop used on me so far. Thanks to my work (with horses) I have learned to master the whip. And I'm looking for someone to try stuff on and for me to have more done to me!! XD

My friend and her family own a few horses on a small sort o' farm, and I don't think they've ever owned a whip.
