~:~ The Mystery of Constance Hatchaway ~:~

As you stand there before the manor, it was a long and tiring trip, and the twilight promises an extra cold night steadily on it's way.
The New-England brick manor looms over the sprawling grounds. The windows are vacant and the house itself looks lifeless. Through years of negelect, the gardens have overgrown themselves, and several dead plants line the walkways to the main doors.

It is obvious there were very few pleasant times spent here as of late, and according to rumors you've heard in the small town you left hours ago, few residents still live here.

And of course... a rather un-nerving curse said to be haunting a particular lady...

Kind Sir, or Lady,

I am in dire need of your help and expertise. I am on the verge of my marriage to my love and through past events, I fear for his well being. I have the belief that the problem is haunting me within my own house and I ask for your help in investigating. Please meet me at my home at [XXX] by this Friday.

Thank you,

Miss Constance Hatchaway, Mistress of Yale Manor.

(the letter is sealed with a wax seal that looks worn but almost seems like a lady's face within a thin circle)

"hmm..." doc says. "This place looks very worn," he thinks "it is a wonder people live here. I don't usually go for the damsel in distress angle, but something about this letter and how it arrived has got me thinking." he rubs his scars unconsiously. "I don't even remeber hearing about this job, the letter just showed up addressed to me. I didn't think I was that famous." doc chuckles to himself. He digs in his satchel and pulls out pill and pops it in his mouth. He grimaces as he dry swalllows it. "All right now that that's done lets see what this gals problem is." he thinks. Puttin on his best fake smile he starts up the walk.

Upon receiving the note Ebenezer immediately launched himself out of his chair. Hatchaway family had been very stubborn of late. More or less they refused to be in attendance during some of Eben's finer moments. This note gave the perfect opportunity to see what forced them to be so reclusive. Many have sought Eben out to solve particularly perplexing mysteries. Quite often he takes a case only if it peeked his interest. Nearly running towards the door and into his coach it appeared his interest was certainly there.

Pulling up to the Manor Eben waited out in the coach. He took particular interest in the rather poor condition of the grounds. A marry tune seeped out from Eben as a smile pursed it's self upon his face. A figure dressed in blue caller attire caught Eben’s eye, “Who are we? A matinee, a ne’er-do-well, or perhaps another guest?” With bag in hand Eben taps softly on the coach door. “Perhaps I will wait to see how he is greeted.” Quite impatient with the wait he pushes open a small window facing the driver’s side. “Driver…what say you? How long do you purpose that man will be waiting?”

Coming down a path Nicholi looked about himself in preplextion. The house was nothing what people had discribed to him and there was little to no road anywhere around. He continued on his way re-reading the note he had recieved the other day.
"Curious..." he said quietly. "But I wonder... there was no mentioning of a ruined stone building..." He looked about at the verious lumps of stone scattered around him, and further off was what looked like the house. "Interesting..." he said, leaning down to one of the stones, "Oh! This one has writing... Frank... frank what? Oh blasted... I can't make it out it's so worn." He stood erect again and made his way through the stones up to the house. Oddly he finds himself at the back door, which he found badly rusted shut.
"Well that explains it... someone built the house backwards." He said, half humorously. Shaking his head he started his way around the house until he met up to the front.

"This place is a total dump." doc thinks, "Does someone actually live here?" He could feel the pill starting to take effect. He felt more awake, more alert, colors were sharper, sounds amplified. He swore he could hear a horse carriage. He stopped sudenly feeling paranoid. He knew this was a side effect of the pills, but it stilll affected him every time He could hear someone walking around the side of the house. He reached into one of his many pockets and rested his hand on a smoke bomb, ready to make an escape if nessescary. "Who's there?" he called out trying to sound confident.

Eben pulled up to the window with glee. "What is this? It appears I am going to see a show after all." Two men where now plainly visible. Eben didn't know all the details but the men seemed nearly polar opposites. One highly alert and posed with some sort of device in his pocket. While the other quite whimsical and unaware of his surroundings. Eben cracked his door open slightly in hopes to better hear what was about to unfold.

Kaede perched on the roof of the building, watching the scene unfold before her. She eyed the carriage as it approached. 'Hmm... looks like he might have something of value' she thought. 'Now if I can just get close enough to check his pockets...'

"Ah!" Nicholi exclaimed as he found Doc on the front porch. He stood for a moment and examined the doctor and then adjusted his glasses. "I suppose you're not Miss Hatchaway. Well at any rate I take it you've been asked here by the lady of the house as well? I-" He stops himself short at the sound of a creaking door.

The front door started to slowly move, in a jerking motion, as the sound of it's rusted hindges crack the silent air (outside of conversations that is).
Behind the door was a male servant, pale, standing stiffly, and quite cross in manner.
"A detective and the doctor I presume?" he asked in a low and gruff voice. He raised a brow and called out in a louder voice across the yard, yet not fully directed to the carriage: "I suggest the others join you before I call the misstress." (His voice sends shivers down Doc's spine due to his heighened senses)

He remains standing in the doorway as the call echos out to the other two.
Behind the man in the house's dimly lit foyer. It was obviously grand at one point in time, with marble floors and brass fixtures, but dust was drapped everywhere like it had grown there.

"Of, course." doc says taking his hand from his pocket. The smell of the dust hit him in the face like a slap from a leather glove. The smell of dust and decay were almost enough to make him gag. "You shouldn't sneak up on people like that." doc says to Nicholi frowning. Doc couldn't shake that feeling that he was being watched by more than one set of eyes. "It just my medication." doc thinks.

"Awh well there is my cue. Driver I am sure I won't be needing you much longer. Should I require your services I shall send for you. Tell then please care for the horses." Eben stepped out of the carriage and allowed his body to take in a good stretch before stepping forth towards the building. Quite curious as to what this Doctor character's specialty was. Eben focused on his dress once more, "Humm...perhaps he is a geologist. What purpose would a geologist have here? No no that is simply too ridiculous," Eben laughs to himself and speaks rather loudly, "What a silly profession geologist." He laughs again as he mindfully makes his way through doorway. The task of barging in seemed to take little effort on his part. Though Eben insisted on keeping a arms length distance from everyone he passes. The action would look to be very rude and arrogent to any who saw it. Upon entry Eben finds the nearest seat and reclines with in it. Crossing his legs and resting his cane on his lap he sat. He seemed very intent to sit completely still staring blankly at an old painting a crossed the room.

(Makin' up for Ekio's absence here)
As Ebon made his way to the front door, the theif had jumped from her spot and joined the group.
Further into the foyer was a set of double stairs widing around and down to the floor over a large archway which lead deeper into the manor's main floor. There were two sets of doors on either side of the room, one closed the other open (in which Ebon had already made his way). The servant ushered the other two through the foyer and to the oepn door into the room where Ebon had made his way.
It was the guest parlor, it's walls once vibrant with a warm green paper, which had since faded into a dusty grey. There were signs of the room being cleaned recently, but it was still a large room, and much was left untouched.
There were a couple of plush couches, a large wingbacked chair and a couple of tables, and an old worn large persian rug on the floor. Everything was lit with gas lamps, adorned with glass shades. A stone fireplace loomed on the wall to the left of the door, and above it, a portrait of a lovely young woman with pale blonde hair, curled at the tips and bright blue eyes, dressed in a white gown with a bundle of flowers in her hand. The portrait looked almost as if it were alive with it's detail, especially the lady's mysterious smile.

"The misstress will be with you shortly..." he announced as he finished ushering them inside. He stiffly made his way to the other side of the door and slid the doors closed. The room was oddly quiet after that.

"Cozy." Nicholi commented as soon as the doors shut and the silence sunk in. Instantly Nicholi was drawn to the portrait, he leans up as far as he can and looks deeply at it. "Amazing! Such detail, and percise strokes... yet no signature from the artist... how queer." He gave a last glance at the portrait and looked over to the others. "Well it seems to me that her ladyship has called us to work as a team... least I suspect that much. My name is Nicholi Briar, pleasure to meet you." he said without a bow but with a adjustment of his specticals.

Doc looks about the room. He turns in a complete circle seemingly unaware of the others at the moment. He takes a small device out of his pocket. It consists of some kind of lens attached to an adjustable cord, and slides it over his head down to his good eye. He gets right up close to the picture until he is only about half-an-inch away. He rubs his head and frowns. He pulls a small notebook from a pocket, mumbles something about "brushstrokes". Puts the notebook away, takes off the lens, puts it away. He unconsioucsly rubs his scars and says "I am called Doctor Rocky Rochonovich."
