Sentinels might be a practical species, but they are far from immune to vanity. Artisans, Featherstylers and skilled jewellery Crafters are always in demand after all. Beauty contests in different shapes and forms are not unheard of either, and there used to be a huge seasonal contest that provided amusement, drama and food for gossip during the short, dreary nights of spring and early summer.
It has been several seasons since one of these big contests were held in Noctua. A series of scandals with males in disguise, females of questionable morale and other unfortunate events it was hard to find someone willing to host and judge the contest. But as time goes by such difficulties seem to be forgotten or glossed over and this season an enterprising Artisan has decided to see if he can bring the tradition back... And for the first time ever hybrid aberrants are allowed to enter. No one knows if any aberrants will want to take part, but Noctuas many typists are getting pretty vocal about this outrage already.
And the Artisan... what is his reason for doing this? Is he doing Noctua a favour by bringing beauty and glamour back, or is he simply trying to boost his own reputation... What is perfectly clear is that he will need a lot of luck and a lot of help if he is to pull this off. Do you want to help him succeed?

A... a beauty contest?
That's right, it's RP-event time again! But since it's summer we're going to keep everything fairly laid back. And if you're not too fond of RP there will be opportunities to join and help out that will require little to no RPing. We will start out with a few free for all contests before sign ups for the RP part starts, see below for the contests that are currently open.
But if you'd like to start RPing this should be a good opportunity since this little spur of the moment RP-event will not be terribly RP heavy (unless you want it to be). However, entering and then vanishing into thin air without warning is not cool and might make us hesitant to include you in other events further on. But this should hopefully not be a problem smile
Who can join?
Some parts will be open for everyone, even those who haven't got a Sentinel yet. Some will be open to everyone with a RP approved Sentinel (with or without picture) and some will be open to everyone with a Sentinel (but it doesn't have to be approved for RP).
To enter a beauty (male or female) you will need a RP approved Sentinel, so now's a good time to get those character forms approved... The minimum requirements to enter the contest is to answer some questions in character, so this could be a low stress and fun way to get a feel for your character and the world of Noctua. The character does not need to have a picture yet, but RP only Sentinels might have a disadvantage in the voting later. But take a look a few posts down... If you have an awesome character idea but no Sentinel yet you might go home with one of those lovelies!
New! How do I RP in the event?
If you have a RP approved character you can start your own RPs in the Gathering Place subforum. Use the tag [STRUT] and be sure to mark if your RP thread is [PRIV] private, [OPEN] or [ASK] ask first. If you'd rather be paired up for RP you'll have to wait until RP staff have the time to pair people up and start the threads. You can ask other participants if they want to play with your character, but only approach those who have expressed an interest in roleplaying.
General rules for the event
- All of the shop rules and RP rules apply.
- Be polite and maintain a positive thread environment. Like momma says, if you don't have something nice to say, then best say nothing at all.
- Don't try to pressure people to RP if they don't want to. Yes, it's a RP event, but it's set up to allow people to join in for a bit of fun and plotting even if they don't want to RP right now.
- Have fun! This is supposed to be a fun and relaxed event.
- There might be additional rules for the different contests, please read them before entering.
Rewards for participating
The winner or winners of the beauty contest will win a semi-custom upgrade slot. This means you can pick a companion OR a dye touch up OR an accessory for that Sentinel. You will be able to provide a theme, but the specifics are up to the colourist.
And as with any plot there might be additional prices and random freebies if we see something that warrants a reward. Join the fun and you might get a nice surprise!

When RP-staff decides we have enough names we will either decide on a winner or use a poll to determine the most popular one. - Anyone can enter a name. Who enters a beauty competition anyway? (currently judging) Over! Congrats StarrySeas and Aurrie Beaues!Your challenge, should you chose to accept it is to create characters for one or both of these beauties (but you can only win one). Both of them are coloured by the talented Hanyousblood and are completely free of charge for the winners. However, you can't add anything to their pictures at this point. This means no companions, dye or accessories yet. We are doing this to boost the beauty-population in the upcoming beauty contest, so if you win one of these, we would love it if you entered them in the beauty pageant event, too. Not a demand, but greatly encouraged! The minimum amount of RP required to take part in the contest will be to answer a few questions IC, so it's a great way to get a feel for a new character. - You may enter for both, but can only win one of these Sentinels

Roleplay opportunities!
Please note that most of the RP groups are created already. Characters that are signed up late might have to start their own RP or join existng open ones.Fair ladies (and gentlemen?)What is a beauty pageant without beauties? A lot uglier, that's what. If we're going to pull this off we'll need pretties to drool over enter this very serious contest. - The lady in question will be judged according to looks, but inner beauty will also be considered.
- They will get a few questions to answer (in character) via PM and there will also be opportunities to RP with other contenders and members of the jury. The RP part is optional.
- Our dear artisan seems like an open minded fellow so you may try your luck with a beautiful male if you are so inclined. We might and might not run separate male and female beauty contests, it all depends on interest.
- Since there is a RP part of the contest your character will need an approved RP form. If you don't have one yet you can head over to the feedback thread and we will do our best to get your character approved in time for the contest. Please get your character approved before you enter him or her.
- RP only characters are allowed to enter, but they are going to have to rely on their inner beauty... They will most likely have a disadvantage because of this, but you never know.

Personality: Quiet and reserved, but gentle and caring. She has a deep love for all living things and silently tends to her patients. She is understanding and kind, and adores the feeling of flight. She often spends her free time soaring amongst the borean trees, just to feel the cool wind rushing past her feathers.
History: NightWhisper woke up alone in the hollow of a tree. Her head was pounding and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember anything before that point. All she could feel was pain in her right wing. Blood trickled down her gray feathers and she squawked in pain. As she blacked out from the pain, a shadow of another sentinel was barely seen. When she woke up, her wing was completely healed, not even a scar remained when she parted her feathers to check the skin. Since then, she devoted herself to become a medic, and hoped that someday she would find the sentinel who saved her.

Personality: Elegant sums up this Sentinel nicely in one word. But that would only be scratching the surface. Lilydove can also come across as soft spoken, but when she has to put her foot down, she will put her foot down. She is sweet and kind, and does her best to not be disrespectful even to those who have opinions differing from her own. This, however does not make her a pushover in any way, as she can stand by her beliefs very strongly if provoked.
History: Lilydove was raised by a Minder for most of her life, but was then adopted to a supposed 'Aunt'. She did call her Aunty most of the time and to this day still doesn't know her real name. Aunty was realtivly strict to Lily and her two nest-mates, Peachsong and Willowtwist. The three chicks were required to learn how to sing, dance and over all entertain from an early age. Aunty wanted them to be like her, well-rounded little Bards. Lilydove had no quarrel with this, and soon she had a wonderful singing voice. Peach and Willow were better at dancing, so she often sang for them to practice dancing to.
When adulthood rolled around, Aunty *demanded* they get inks. Oodles and oodles of inks, like her flamboyant orange streaks and pink highlights. Lily had objections about this, and politely refused to get inks. Peach and Willow, however had no problem with covering up their natural beauty. And so, it was definitely time for Lilydove to leave the area (Peach, Willow, and Lily hadn't been living in the same tree as Aunty for a while now, but lived in their own trees a stone's throw from Aunty's hollow.) . So she set off, not terribly far from her Aunt and siblings. Lilydove came to discover the joys of teaching other Sentinels how to sing like her, and thus she became a Teacher, mostly for Sentinels looking to become bards.
Territory: An old oak tree bordering the Deep Woods and The Clearing.

Companions: None
Why is she entering this competition? Half of her reason is for herself, it's almost like a vacation from teaching for her and a chance to have a little adventure (if you can call entering a beauty pageant and adventure...). The other half is to prove something to her Aunty. The age old 'It's not the outside that matters, it's the inside' quarrel between them. By winning the pageant she'll be able to prove that beauty comes from within and not mushed-up berries slapped on feathers.

Name: Dustfeather

Personality: Though large in size, Dustfeather has always been meek and soft spoken amongst others her age and older. She tends to bury herself in her work and, although young, is quickly taking to her new profession much like a duck to water. She is known for her dilligence and her sharp mind, yet often finds herself lost in conversation and lacking in the ability to speak up for herself, much to her own distaste. She makes a point to do all she can to help her fellow Sentinels and, although older, tends to get along best with the youth of the Forest. She often will carry candied nuts with her when tending to the ill or wounded little ones of the clan and often makes friends easily amongst them, as she isn't exactly an old featherbag, herself. Perhaps she would of made a decent minder, but it is in the craft of healing that she takes solace in.
Besides, children usually are fun, especially when you can give them back to their parents once you are tired of entertaining them.
History: There isn't much to the large, soft spoken Ghost's past. She was hatched to an aging couple who took pride in their tasks as Artisans. The doddering old couple were bent on pushing Dustfeather to follow in their wing-beats, which wasn't too difficult to do once her shy and eager to please disposition began to shine through her voratious appetite and constant crying as a hatchling. From the earliest of nights, once her Will began to manifest itself, they began the task of teaching her about the art of painting feathers.
Unlike her parents, she had little eye for color coordination or design.
Overwhelmed with her parents constantly trying to get her to persue a task that they deemed worthy of their artistic blood, young Dustfeather decided to try and gain at least a small smidge of independence. She would not choose to be an Artisan, or a Bard, or even an Apothecary. Instead, she chose a profession after her own heart. She would give back to the community through the art of healing, and left to do just that.
They still drop by to visit her and have even done some "sprucing up" in her territory, bringing little painted trinkets to her as a token of affection, despite the odds thy bickered about only a couple of seasons ago.
Territory: The young Medic had been assigned to a territory in the Deep Woods, near the fork of the Swift Open River. It's a decent place that possesses a single, small platform on her main tree, as well as a hollowed out section that serves as a resting place for patients. A slightly smaller tree is where she chooses to rest when not working. The entire place has been decorated with various painted objects that often serve as small toys for the little ones that spend time with her while ill or injured and several wooden windchimes sway amongst the branches, jingling softly.
Mate: None; though she may keep an eye out for one in the future. Actually, she'd probably wait until a gentlemen set eyes on her. She isn't one to actively persue another.
Companions: None
Why is she entering this competition? This is yet another step, in her mind, at showing her parents that she can and will do as she pleases and that she has the ability to excel, even if it is without their support. The youth seems to still be acting out against the overbearing duo that raised her. It is also an attempt to prove to herself that she can and will make a niche in the Forest, be it by her task or by her personality and natural beauty.

Task: Teacher
Personality: Astute, stern, cunning. All are words that are associated with this aging, pure blooded fellow. He takes his position as a Teacher as most important, because someone must teach the youngsters of the Clan properly, to keep their little noggin's from filling up with nonsense. He usually comes off as tough as stone, but he really is just an old, softhearted fellow. Of course, he does his best to keep his students from knowing this until they are a little older and nearing adulthood. Sorrel is a prideful individual, easily noted in the way he speaks and carries himself, and this is mostly attributed to his pure lineage and in the hard work he put into building a name for himself.
He also seems to have no qualms in pressing his own thoughts and opinions on others
It is not uncommon for young lovers to receive a quick lecture on the proper courtships expected of them, as he views flings as highly unacceptable. If he catches sight of a mix-type pair, they are sure to get a beak-full. Hanging too near to the ground? He'll tell of the time ol' Mudbeak was torn up by a large, ground dwelling beast. Too near to the canopy? He's just as likely to stop and tell of the time Mudbeak disappeared into oblivion. Yes, he never stops.
History: His beginnings were simple, though far from modest. His mother and father were both proud, "well bred" members of the Sentinel society and took great pains in making sure their lineage was well known. They wasted no time in teaching the young fluff-ball that he, too, should be proud of himself and the beautiful plumage that came with his ancestry. Time passed and he did what he could to contribute to the Clan responsibly. He served as a Hunter for many long seasons, until he decided it would be best to settle down and teach the youth what he had learned long ago.
He took a mate quite young, but was certain to court her as he and his parents deemed properly. The entire affair had been arranged for both he and his lovely new mate, Rosewing, by the concerned parents of both parties and, fortunately, they seemed to hit it off well. She was amiable and spunky, a sharp contrast to his stern and reserved nature, yet they meshed well and went on to have two clutches.
His Rosewing passed seasons ago, but he still has two sons and a daughter to keep tabs on. His daughter took a territory near him, while his two sons are off, further away from Deep Woods.
Territory: He takes a modest territory on the south-eastern fringes of Deep Woods. It contains four trees and has two platforms, one higher than the other. He will often take three or four fledglings at a time to train and teach them there.
Mate: Rosewing (Deceased)
Companions: None
Why is he entering this competition? While he tends to be reserved, especially as he ages, he caught wind of the returning competition. At first he scoffed, yet something about it struck a chord with him. He felt somewhat spontaneous, perhaps in memory of his late, spontaneous mate.
