And then they do THIS? ARE YOU ******** KIDDING ME? I'm quoting it from another guild I'm in, so I don't know the link. gracewar7 We've been working hard on a redesign of the site header. We all know Gaia to be a vibrant and lively community site, and we wanted to express this more visually in the header. As you may know, we have been using the header for Gaia events like Valentine's Day, Promageddon and so on. We want to continue doing that, and in addition, reserve the space in the header for more social and community related purposes in the future. So watch that space! You'll see that the new redesign actually looks very minimalist. The idea was to take the more utility-type functions (e.g., notifications, PMs, Gaia IM, shortcuts) and move them to a new floating footer. Check out the new design here: Site header redesignA few points to note: - Friends module is back! Yes, we heard your concerns when this was removed from the homepage. You can now see your friends and check their online status by clicking on the Friends icon in the new floating footer, like so: - Unfortunately, after much pondering and debate, we decided to remove the world map as it was taking a big toll on the page load speed. You can still access the map through the World landing page. There is much we can do with depicting the Gaia world, and we want to work through that in a more integrated way with the site before re-introducing the world concept in a big way later. - Announcements will still be in the speech bubble next to your avatar, and all other notifications have moved to the new floating footer. So, what do you think? Like it? Hate it? Let us know what you're thinking! Quick clarification: When you get a new PM or other notification while you're on the site or when you first sign in, you'll see a little bubble pop from the footer letting you know. So there'll be some notification apart from the change in the numbers on the footer icons. smile What are they thinking?

I don't think they are trying to become Facebook, just using ideas that are highly liked from that site.
I personally like it.
It's just another layout change, and once you've been here a few years... you get used to them.

Facebook is alright, beats MySpace in my book.
Eh, I've seen the site change twice. Both major changes. Don't be surprised if it happens soon.
Also, Gaians wanted the site header to change more than just every holiday. That quote you took is proof that Gaia listens to its users. =]

Why are they banning people who want to protect themselves from scams? Why do they take down, and put people's opinions in the recycle bin?

It's a change, but at least it's not anything too drastic. I think it makes things look more organized.

Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade!
Icemist: They do not take it down since they are "in need" of money.
They are actually not banning people by putting in false information. That was just a rumour going around after Dreaming of Reves became banned for something unrelated to the information thing. You just get banned from the third party host thing.
I have no idea about the recycle bin thing, but my guess something went wrong in the thread to cause mod intervention.
Hide your face so the world will never find you.

=/I agree. Facebook keeps changing the layouts but personally and thoughts from other people, they don't like it. It just gets confusing. Facebook started the sponsers before Gaia but no one complains because most don't do them, most just chat with friends. But gaia is socializing and designing pixel, so most will be tempted by them.

Yeah, I detest it too. I feel that it's a waste of time. I think that the site design of Gaia is the least most important thing to focus on, or to develop upon. But I think they'll go through with it anyways, just like almost everything is. .____.
The original post where the quote came from is here:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/site-feedback/coming-soon-site-header-redesign-and-new-floating-footer/t.51013207/
It has even Moderators upset about it and who are adamant to not have the changes.
And I don't know. I'll say about 85% of the thread hates it, and it seems like no one is budging to make any compromises about it (the people who are in charge of making the changes).

Gaia is supposed to be "unique" Now, they're trying to be like everybody else. :[ I'm dissapointed.

The redesign isn't mostly that bad in my opinion. However, I'm gonna hate the bottom. Hated it on facebook and I'll hate it here. Plus, I love the way that they did pms before. It's one of my favorite things about gaia. They're easy to see, and cute. And the GIM in the bottom? It doesn't work all that well now, in my experience, and it's extremely annoying. I have aim and gmail for chatting with friends. I'd prefer not to on gaia, as it's my escape place. I go on here so I don't have to deal with people constantly knowing my every move.

Now go away... I think this new navigation IS the new layout. They stated somewhere that they were going to go back to the drawing board. 3nodding
