Ah, it's been over three years for me since I first came on Gaia. Back then it's Gaia, the site we know and loved, I remember that it was more fun back then too. Everyday I always wanted to come on whenever I had a chance to go on to speak with my good buddies and play some games.
In fact, when I did an interview with .[n.k]., she told me a lot of awesome things happened since in the 03's.
I wish I was in the 03's. But at least I am lucky to be here since the early 06. ^^
In this thread, tell us about your experience here on Gaia and how you changed since you visited this site. I know I changed because I know more about myself. What about you?

Those who accept their fate are granted happiness. Sonia-chama has been here since '04, I think. surprised (it's so easy to lose track of time) This has been my third official account (made it yesterday XP). I've changed in that I'm not as closed-minded as I once was about the world and cultures, as there are many different people on here. It's so nice to get out of the box. 3nodding I miss the good old days when noobs weren't such a high population and nearly everyone had common sense (in other words, weren't a bunch of morons). Ah, the bygone era... btw, Hi. biggrin Those who defy it are granted glory.

'04 was the best Gaia was pretty tight-knit and mods/admins actually talked to users on a regular basis.

BASH has something to say! My first account was in '04. I forgot most of how it was then, but it was a lot different than it is now. I was fine with the Cash Shop. I was fine with the MTV partnership. I was fine with the advertisements. But this time, Gaia has gone too far. SAVE OUR SITE.

I joined June 26, 2005. When I first scanned the site and went to the shops, I thought the items were just too cool. It was love at first sight. (And you people like to say it doesn't exist. razz )
My favourite character was Ian and when he disappeared I was in a craze wanting to know what happened. I read the story lines then went back to the shops.
I went to H&R Wesley and clicked on the pink G-LOL dress. When it said 13,000 I thought it was so expensive! I started questing for that, but when I made my first 2K, I couldn't hold my excitement, went to Barton Boutique and couldn't make a decision whether to get the cat claws or the cat tail. I decided on the cat tail and couldn't be more happier. But when the claws reached 10k in the marketplace, I facepalm'd. Haha.
Now though -- God. I don't know what I can say. I would have quit a long time ago, but the people I've met on here are just amazing. I've got so many friends around the world now whom I've known for two years now. (:
I miss Gaia. :[

Back then, the fad was to have a quilt of icons. ;P And yes, I'll admit. I even had a Gaia boyfriend.
Lolll. God I miss those days.

I joined in 2007 because I loved the whole concept behind Gaia's virtual economy, and many of the games were fun. I remember being ecstatic when I made my first 20k. : emotion_facepalm : This is actually my first account, and I'm glad because I'm very attached to it.
I remember feeling very proud of myself for donating and collecting the donation letters. Thought I was doing my part to keep a good website good.
I remember feeling very overwhelmed with the creation of the Cash Shop. I was still thinking in terms of donations to help the site, not so much business but now I just feel retarded for falling into so many cash holes.

I'm an old oldbie from 2003 (not as old as my friends who got me to join, but still old). This is my second account. I took a break between 2005 and 2007 because I was tired of the people I kept running into on Gaia. My first account is now storage and the way to find the occasional old friend.
What I remember is it took FORever to earn the 1000g it took to buy one donation letter, and then it turned out you could sell them for 5k and 10k. It was pretty hard to earn gold any other way. I remember when pink links were real, there were only pink giftboxes and enchanted trunks and you could earn one every six months with dedication. And everything in there was something you didn't own yet. XD
And I remember when the Angelic Scarf first reached 100k in value.

Hm.... Well, I originally joined in January of 04. XD I just BARELY missed the 03ers. Compared to what the site layout used to be, Gaia has.... changed dramatically. Honestly, I can say the layout change has been for the better. Some of the newer features are a bit superfluous or lacking (not liking the lack of trade and sub-drop-downs for shops). I don't even really remember what the original layout looked like. I know it was... rather confusing though. Then again, there wasn't NEARLY this many features back then. In fact, I think the only thing that was available back then was the shop (there was just Barton town's little ol' place), trade (the bank), and the forums.
The newscast building was The Personals (which, for those who don't know, was a place for users to meet each other. However, it got shut down after Gaia admins realized it was being heavily abused for cyber sex purposes).
There was no marketplace. In fact, the exchange forum WAS the marketplace, and the bank/trade function was how transactions were done back then. It's still done today, of course, but it's more of a rarity.
Xx I was a forum RPer, and still am. Commerce was around, with all its wonderful RP shops and people, and so I hung out there, and moved on later to Guilds (not the GGN guilds, but the Guilds forum, as there was no GGN until late 05, I'm thinking). The RP wars from way back then were, and still are, THE most fun I've ever had RPing.
Then came the marketplace, which was probably one of THE greatest ideas that Gaia's admins ever came up with (considering it's now the central hub of Gaia's economy). I remember being able to buy donation items (what so many people call MCs nowadays) for no more than 5k a pop. And I also remember having TONS of fun playing Gaia's market. Donation items were kind of like stock back then to me. You could buy the letters low, because you didn't know what was in them, and sometimes you got a real steal because the price would double right after the items were released, or sometimes you got unlucky and the item price dropped to lower than what you bought it for and you didn't want the item. Donation Items could probably, back then, have been compared to RIGS. You didn't know what you'd get when you bought them. The advantage though, was that you got to pick between two items (or at least in the later years. :3)
Xx Gosh, there's really so much from Gaia I miss. D= I'm an old fogie talking about the good ol' days though.
But really, there's a lot of good in these days too! I still have tons of fun RPing with a lot of people from the same crowd I did way back when, and met a bunch of new people too who bring a whole new element to stories and plots. I've made really close friends, and learned a lot about myself and about the world thanks to Gaia. Plus, there's so much on Gaia to do nowadays, it's hard to get bored with all the games, and people you can meet. I do miss the tight-knit groups we had way back when. It was like living in a small town. Everyone knew everybody. But there are great advantages to being in a big Gaian metropolis, too. You never know who'll brighten your day with some random insight, or make you laugh with some random tvtropes link.

I joined up in -06, and have had the same account ever since. Only difference is that I changed my name this year (from snowdropp, my first username) and 3 times have I changed my hair :] I also had a second account for a year or two where I pretended to be someone else (a challenge, but it was fun to have a split personality and trying to figure out how this person would dress and act...)
I remember them having random avatars showing up on the front page, next to the join button, to show up some nice combinations and items that were really nice back then XD
I remember 2k being an awful lot and I kept doing bad desissions on the marketplace since it was far less developed than it is now rolleyes (you could not see trends, or if an item was rising or falling - heck, you couldn't even see how many items were in the mp if I remember correctly!)
I also remember browsing through the world maps every time I logged in because that was where I though giftboxes showed up...
I remember it being right after the zurg event and I didn't understand what the heck was going on XD
