X-Men

This will be an AU setting most similar to Evolution, but it can really go in any direction. One month ago Xavier opened the Mansion to the public. Before it was exclusive 'membership' while he built all of the facilities and revamped the building. This means there are quite a few teachers/helpers around along with a few students, but as of yet an official X-men team has not been created. The four canon that are around at this time are Hank, Logan and Ororo, who act as mentors/teachers (well, Logan kinda filters in and out, doing his own thing), and Jean and Scott. The two of them have already graduated high school a few years ago and have remained at the Institute at Xavier's request to help with new students that may arrive.

There has been no major appearance of any main villains as of yet, and Xavier is still searching for the rest of his team. As for a plotline, it's rather pointless to come up with one for any RPG, only to have it nonexistent due to the fact certain characters are needed in order for it to work. So the 'plotline' will depend on what characters people partake as, though the general set up is that a large number of new students are coming to the Institute, some for refuge, others for guidance. Villains are not a big issue yet, as we want to let the characters generally get to know one another first before any big battle takes place. 'Villains' could also refer to the rebel types that are at the Institute first, but later who join up with the Brotherhood.

Both canon and original characters are welcome, though we might limit OCs if they start overflowing too soon. Though, we do expect original characters to be well-thought-out, plausible, preferably creative, and fit under the guidelines we have specified in the rules section. We're also looking for teacher characters as well. They don't have to be canons, or even mutants. Teachers can even be humans who support mutants.

As there are few canons who have been introduced yet, if you want to play a certain character you will need to come up with a reason for him/her to be at the Institute. You may also tweak the history and personality for your character that will allow them to fit better with our setting. Again, though, keep it logical. While we are going with a more Evolution basis, we still would like any additional canons to be no younger than 16.

Original Character Rules

  • Relations. Your character can only be related to a canon character as long as you have permission from the Mods and the player of the canon character. We don't need 50 lost children/lovers/whatevers of Logan, Scott, Gambit or whoever else. It's just not logically conceivable. If nobody is actively playing as that character you want your character to be related to, then too bad. Friends and acquaintances are fine (to a point), but nothing more.

  • Uberness. No all-powerful characters. Why? Because god-moders are annoying as hell and thoroughly frell over boards. Give your character a reasonable amount of abilities/skills and have them make sense. Being able to fly, teleport anywhere in the world, and control/create all the elements in existence is not only illogical, but stupid. This also includes ace-shooter with unlimited ammo, or insta-kill weapons and all that crap. Basically, OCs can't be any stronger than the main characters.

  • Abilities. No exact powers of canons or fan-characters already participating in the RPG, nor plagiarizing in general of other series. Getting an idea for your character's abilities off another character is fine, though do make that ability different enough for it to be considered unique. Meaning, if we instantly think of another canon character by your description you will need to change stuff around. The possibilities of what a mutant could develop are limitless, so try to think of stuff that has not been done before. Remember, not all mutations have to be flashy or destructive.

  • Telepathy. No telepath can be stronger than Xavier. It's as simple as that. If you plan on applying for a telepath or telekinetic you MUST describe his/her mutations in immense detail. We require this because in the past we have seen far too many all-powerful telepaths being created. Explain to us how it is different than any other telepath's abilities as well.

  • Adamantium. "My character has Adamantium claws/skeleton/whatever." is an automatic refusal, no matter how detailed or well-presented your application is. Having Adamantium bonded to one's skeletal structure would mean they would have to have gone through the same process as Logan, which is a headache in itself to even attempt to come up with some logical reasoning for it to have done. Plus, Logan pretty much survived the process due to his healing factor, so said character would also require the same level of healing else s/he'd be dead. Just don't even go here, got it?

That's it for now. These rules are subject to change. Also, if the application is impressive and logical enough, some of the above rules might be reconsidered for that character.

NOTE: Rules pertaining to post style, guild ettiquete, etc can be found in the Welcome announcement thread. Please read over it.

Application

The below form will need to be filled out by everyone, even those who are applying for canon. We want to be certain that you are capable of playing that character correctly. Please PM the application to all X-Men mods with the subject "TAC: X-Men Application".

Because of Gaia's tendency to be populated by non-literates, more than likely we will return your application back to you with any comments and concerns that we may have. Please do not get discouraged because of this. This is normal for everyone who joins. However, as we have to talk with all of the mods and write down our explanations, please be aware that it will take us some time to review your application. This could be anywhere from a day to even a week depending on how busy we are, if we disagree on parts, etc. Please be patient. If by a week we haven't at least told you we received your application, feel free to inquire about your status. Also realize that if you submit something completely retarded that disregards one or more rules to a serious degree we will outright ignore your application.

Here's some explanations on the form:

Reference link: We don't know every X-Men canon or even remember every little detail about every character out there, so we'd like to learn a bit about them before hand. Please submit a link where we can read up on your character. Omit this if you are applying for an OC.

Alias: Their code name.
Alignment: X-Men, X-Men (Student), or BoEM, or Unaligned.
Occupation: This will most likely be student, unless he or she has a job.
Education: What level of education does your character know? Example: high school Sophomore (Somebody did indeed get this wrong.)

All of the below fields must be at least one paragraph in length (5-8 sentences) unless otherwise noted. A note for skills/abilities, and things like that: If you don't write it in, then your character does not have it. End of discussion.

Physical Traits: You may link (but not post) to a picture if you have one, but you are still required to describe your character as well. For physical description we would like to see physique, hair style/length and color, eye color and shape, skin tone, and anything else that would be distinguishing for the character.

Outfit: His/her street clothes. This is more to describe the style of clothing your character wears rather than what outfit they wear often.

Uniform: Most likely your character will not have one, so just write 'none' if this is the case. Or if you want you can describe to us what you'd like your character to have if he/she joins on the team. Though, specify that this is something for later, and not currently in existence.

Major Mutations: These are your character's main powers. Usually they are strongest and/or the most used abilities. Example: Scott's optic blasts. Please be highly descriptive on this, explaining the mutation down to the finest detail. It's advantages, it's drawnbacks, everything.

Minor Mutations: These are your character's lower powers. Usually these do not have a large affect on the user or others. Your character may not have any minor mutations. Example: Kurt can more easily blend in with shadows.

Skills: This is stuff your character is good at, not his/her powers. Skills are something that can be learned, or even perhaps an innate talent. They do not have to be combat related.

Personality: Be as descriptive with this as you can, as this is what determines how your character will interact with everyone else. We'd like to know about your character's beliefs as well as how he/she interacts with others. What is his/her view on the mutant/human situation? Does he/she hate a certain person or faction?

Interests: This can just be a sentence or two, but please don't list.

Family: You may list, though specify names/ages if possible. Remember, your character had to have parents of some kind, so at least saying "mother and father are dead" works, just state something. Characters generally don't spawn out of thin air. >_>

History: Must be at least two paragraphs in length, though preferably longer. We want to hear about the events that lead your character to develop they way they have, how they got themselves in specific situations, and anything else important in understanding them. But remember, mutants generally do not develop their powers until they hit puberty. Meaning 12-13, or older. If your character is 8 and is showing signs of having uber telekinetics, we will outright tell you no on that.

Miscellaneous: Please include any information you think is important to know about your character. Basically this field is optional.

Your roleplay experience. Meaning, what other types of RPGs have you been in (including genre and system of play), how long you've been roleplaying, etc. This will not hinder your chance of acceptance. We just wanna know what sort of roleplaying background you have.

Your knowledge of the X-Men universe. Just so we know where everyone stands and will help us work around potential timeline issues.

Sample roleplay entry. Please don't link to any former RPGs. We do not have the time to scroll through pages of posts to look for yours. Just cut and paste one if you really have to. And please, give us a sample post of the character you are applying for. If you send us a post for Naruto or some other character, that will not show us you have the capabilities of playing the character you requested.
