So I've been a vegetarian for about a year. And I've been dating my loving boyfriend for about 2 years and now we live together and we visited his parents who are big meat eaters. We went shopping and hung out and then his dad decided "Hey let's go get some food for BBQ" We ended up going to a butcher....It was the most foul think I have ever encountered. It was an exotic meat butcher so there were elk heads and saws on the walls, all the employees aprons were covered in blood and there were 10 cases filled with varieties of meat. And there was like a hall way where people kept going in and out bringing more meat and I KNOW what was back there. I came home and pretty much threw up in the toilet. That was 5 hours ago and I still feel sick. Has anyone else ever been to a butcher, after going veg? If you haven't then don't. The smell alone is disgusting.

Thankfully, I've never been to a butcher shop. I think I would have probably behaved the same way you did after that. I went to my brother's house last night and he forgot to tell me he was cookin fish. That smell makes me sick as hell. I guess that really doesn't compare to seein all the dead animal parts and *vomits*....

I think that's what happens to everyone. I'm a transitioning vegetarian at the moment, but when I was fully vegetarian a few years ago, any kind of meat sickened me -- especially fresh meat.
Even before starting to transition, i've always had a real problem with handling fresh meat/blood.

I know how you feel. My family has no qualms about even cutting back on meat and increasing veggies ever scince I became a vegetarian(they're the sort of people where meat is the main course for them) It's been a few months scince I became a vegetarian(may '09) but there's times where when I smell meat cooking I want to go into the bathroom and puke my guts out. And disgustingly enough, there's times where it smells alluring when it's cooking(tho i'll never eat it again and i remind myself that it's disgusting, and such, but I think that's only when I'm hungry, and I go grab a peice of fruit or a veggie burger.)
But like chickadee, I've always been naseated whenever handling raw meat or blood. (what's funny is animal blood makes my stomach churn, but human blood dosen't phase me. Go Figure, lol)
