The best RPs...
Are aged, like sharp cheddar and fine wine
Are new, like shiny cars and bubblegum

What's better; starting your own RP or reviving an old one?

I'm mainly asking because I miss Feast or Famine (Pirates vs Gypsies)

What you all think, yo?

I say we revive it a bit then (like a few posts a day are fine, if possible), then RESOLVE it!!

I think I know how it can end... The MODERN AGE!!

...too ambitious? It was supposed to be set in a time before factories and modernization. confused

It really depends on style, personally i've stopped RPing because of time issues, so i would only do one if it was within the guild, because i don't want to trouble other people with my absence. Also whever i get back theres always SOOOOO much to catch up on because of most of gaia being American confused

Yeah, I periodically want to do RPs again, but I don't really spend much time on Gaia as it is and I would feel bad bogging anything down. And I take a long time to write out and format and spell check and go back and re-word stuff (seriously, I pretty much rough draft this stuff) so I'm lucky if I post more than once a day.

Plus, pretty much every time I've been in one it's a small group of people so we'll all end up with multiple characters. It always happens that someone with a bunch of important characters gets bored and disappears so unless someone is willing to jump in and write for them the whole thing disintegrates.

More on topic: If you mean reviving a concept, I think that's always fine. I don't particularly like reviving a previous thread but that may be because I am intimidated by RPs that already have more than a couple pages under their belt. I feel like by then there are a lot of established relationships and it's hard to write yourself into a plot that is already moving.

Thanks, guys...

Zahari- you bring up a LOT of really good points.

What if we have make a simple RP with one basic rule: Characters that have been abandoned after two days in the thread can be written for by anyone until the original user gets back.

I don't mind anyone taking my characters for a spin, you all???

I think temporary writers would be fine. I've definitely done that a couple of times, in the sense that I attempted to write the characters to the side lines until the player got back. And if they're gone for more than a week or two without notifying someone (thread creator, I guess?) of reason for their absence/that they're going to come back, I think it should be fair game if someone wants to take them over. Or, like, kill them off or something. I just hate to see a decent RP stall out, even if the person has a good reason for not being able to post.

I think people taking over my characters sounds a little weird to be honest, but it would be interesting to see what happened, how someone else interpreted them. Like one of those Round Robin stories*. As long as they don't change personalities completely on me it would be fine. It could even be a good exercise for the writers out there to see if you're conveying the kind of personality you want a character to have (assuming your ghost writer doesn't just take all kinds of liberties).

*I'm actually surprised that I don't see those more on Gaia. They're a lot of fun even if you only have a few people contributing. And there's less pressure to post a whole bunch every day.

....I should start one so I have something to do at work.

OH! Brainwave! How about an RP with us guildies in the RP subforum and we each have a character. The characters all have their own colour of text, but we can all write for each character under the guild mule!
So after we create the characters all the other posts will be from Brownie girl. And after each post we can try to guess who wrote it biggrin
Sound good? Or too much trouble than its worth? xd

...I have no idea about this pixie boy business.

The idea sounds interesting though. I'll play if we do it.
