Hey everyone! Myself and others would probably want some tips to make their characters, plots, and posts for and in RPs better. So this is the place to post and ask for them!

.:Good Tips:.Tomare My fight posts tend to be short compared to some of the rediculous "supar advanced literates" I've seen, but I think I could hand out a few tips. If it's a fight, your character is probably going to sustain a few injuries. If these injuries start to hinder your character's ability to fight, it's probably worth a mention. For example, your character to a hard hit to the leg before, then he tries to kick his opponent with the same leg. After they do, they're probably going to realize what a bad idea that was. Also, it's probably going to hurt them as well as their opponent if it connects. Already, that's a good 3-4 sentance post (throwing the kick, restating that the leg is injured, going "oh crap," and then, depending on the house combat rules, connencting and hurting your injured leg more). Another thing that can add length to a fight post is some casual danger dialog. Talking is a free action, so go ahead and insult your opponent while you're fighting. Taking a sentance or two to describe changes in your character's morale is a good idea if you want to pad your posts. For example, your character is getting a bit cocky after landing a couple of hits. Take a second to say so. Similarly, that cockiness is going to fade fast after taking a hit in return. Take a second out of throwing punches to say so. In my opinion, though, fighting posts don't have to be really long. Avoid purple prose during fight scenes at all costs, as it really starts to loose the feeling of action when you feel the need to describe every litte drop of blood that goes flying or how jumping away from that attack made Mary-Suzette's hair get in her face and mar her perfect beauty. The goal is to accurately describe what's going on while still making it feel action-y.

I wanna make my posts longer especially during a fight. What ways can I do so?

Thanks for posting Tomare. This was actually a very helpful tip when I RP with friends. I find my fight scenes to be too... 2-dimensional if you know what I mean. (Btw, I've seen Purple prose in a fight scene - it's incredibly boring and irritating to read -_-")
I just have a question. I really wish to start a RP with someone (preferably a small group), but every time I try to enter one, I'm either too late (since the RP is already on the 3rd page, for example) or some of the RPers are screaming Mary Sues/Gary Stus. I really would not want to join a RP where the character's too 'beautiful' or 'over-powerful'. Any ideas what I should do?

I find that the reason that most new RP's are already on the 3rd page by the end of the day is because of one-liner people such as Shadic, Logan, and dmk posting away their senseless nonsense which just makes for filler.. so now they most likely have another strike against them because filler-people such as them keep people like you and me from posting in RP's that SEEM to have been really popular in such a short time.. I normally don't even try to join guilds if the number of posts is really high because I like to read everything the guild has to offer, including that I like to read every post of an RP before I join it to get a good idea of what happened so I know how to start

I have that exact same problem a lot of the time. The best solution is probably to make your own RP, that way you can filter out all the Mary Sues and move the plot along at your own pace. The problem with that is that if you suck at coming up with plots like I do, these RP's tend to get derailed or never get off the ground. sweatdrop
Another solution would be to RP with a circle of friends who you know are good RPers and start a private RP with them. I used to belong to a site that basically operated like this, and I had some of the best RP's I've ever had there. Sadly, real life got in the way (And this tard who jumped into every subplot in every RP with all the subtlety of a bear with a machingun that shoots chainsaws. On fire. But that's besides the point...), and it's sort of dead now. ;_;
Not exactly the greatest advice, but I hope it helped.

@ Tsuki
True say about the one-liners. I spotted a couple Gary-Stu attributes to those users' characters. shhhhh >_>' ninja
@ Tomare
I usually RP with my friends, but I do it through MSN (so instant messaging RP). But we don't do Sonic roleplaying since we have our own separate characters. I was hoping to Sonic RP with someone outside my friend's community just to see how it's like. But yeah, the greatest solution is probably creating my own RP. I've been trying to think of a plot for awhile, but most of them seem too cliche for my liking - and I try to make them seem unique or fresh as possible. To be honest though, I guess I wouldn't mind a couple Sues or Stus just for laughs xd but for a serious story, it'd get rather irritating >_>
Thanks both of you for your advice =)

You ninja with your invisible text XD I used to RP with a couple people on MSN.. but now the only person I RP with on MSN is my RL gf (*Cough* I added some of my own personality and attributes to my character Kitten *Cough*) Tomare, I've been looking around FOREVER (if you can call doing nothing looking around) for a site like that, I thought about making one but Freewebs isn't that personal.. and I can't spend any money online (mainly because I'm not old enough to have a credit card or anything.. well I probably am, me and my mom just haven't gone out and started me a bank account :b) and also I haven't even tried to get my Driver's Permit.. I don't really care if I drive or not, not that big a deal in my eyes

Well, the site I used to go on was an Invisionfree board, which, as the name suggests, is free (we later upgraded to Zetaboards, which is very similar and still free). The only thing that cost any money was the domain name one of the admins bought.
I don't really like RPing over IM. It's too hard to do a group RP because you need to have everyone on at the same time and people keep posting over each other.

One of the main reasons I went guild-searching on Gaia again, however long ago it was, was because I wanted to group RP since none of my MSN friends like RPing anymore.. except for Zero Andronian and my gf but one-on-one RP's are starting to get a bit old to me :b I'll still do em though, but they just got boring after a while and I needed some spice
