Being a nerd, I have a warm spot in my heart for many comic book artists. I love
Mike Mignola more than can possibly be healthy. If any of you haven't read Hellboy, you need to go fork out the cash right now. The movies do not even convey how good it is (although I agree that Del Toro had some badass visuals going on). The geometry of his figures, the dramatic high contrast darks and lights, not to mention the way he lays out a comic page...it's incredible. One of the things I love about it is that you can see where he gets his inspiration from (Frazetta and Japanese prints) but what he does is totally his own. I don't feel it shows very often in my work, but he's one of my biggest inspirations.

Duncan Fegredo, who interestingly enough is now doing art for Hellboy. He also drew two of my other FAVORITE comic books, ENGIMA and KID ETERNITY. I loved his super loose gestural drawings. They are so high energy and interesting to look at...tragically he has been cleaning up and 'refining' his drawings so they aren't so scratchy any more. But he'll always have a place on my bookshelf.
In a different vein, I think Botticelli is the bomb.
