I'm sure we're all guilty of some form of history-dweebiness; post here, be it true, funny, or just plain nuts! whee I'll get the ball rolling...

...you're a member of a history guild.

...the first thing you do when you go to a bookstore or library is make a beeline for the history section.

...you drool over old stuff. (Like books, antiques, etc.)

...you watch historical movies just to pick them apart.

...you get all exited upon discovering a historical reference anywhere. (For me, music.)

...you know all the historical references in the crossword puzzle.
...you can recognize all the presidents, but only about five modern actors.
...your history teacher never calls on you anymore because s/he knows you'll hijack the class.

(Not entirely true for me, but to some small extent yes. ninja )

Those are great! 3nodding I can see them being at least partially true for sure... xd

...you get all exited about trips to a museum, wheras many would complain.

... You read so much that your friends take your advice when you say something is 'boring' (like 'drop that book and run!' kinda boring)
... You already know what your history teacher will say beforehand due to the pictures on the board
... You have an urge to suddenly tell your pals about ... happening in... which was a...

Guilty. Not literally drooling, but...
I was watching Antiques Roadshow the other day. They had on there a map from the original publishing of the journals of Lewis and Clark! I was like "I so want that! Heck, I'd be happy for a reproduction that has that same yellowed, tattered look. If I had a million dollars..." Because that was roughly how much it was worth.
Unfortunately, I'm the only one in this guild, it seems, that's interested in that period of American History. Jefferson is definently one of the best Presidents ever. Though he was an idealistic hypocrite. rolleyes

That's great! xd I need to study more America history... I know a bit about the 20s and 30s, but other than that, I'm totally useless. But I'm the exact same way. A friend dragged me into a used book store a while ago (not exactly kicing and screaming) and they had a huge selection... I was having difficulty keeping my voice down, I was so exited... sweatdrop

Oh my goodness, yes.

Freya_Crescent... you would really enjoy my "American Literature" course at my university... I had to read Franklin and Jefferson's autobiographies. biggrin

Well, let's see....

-You max out on History Credits possible at your University.
-You rate novels on their historical inaccuracies, not on story.
-You make Antiques Roadshow and other quasi-historical shows ((I am guilty of watching Most Haunted every week... it's informative!)) a part of your weekly scheduale.

Yeah. My hs American Lit class read an excerpt from Jefferson's autobiography. I think it would be interesting to read, and not all that difficult. Keep in mind this is coming from a girl who reads Shakespeare (and understands it! Without the text notes!) in her free time. Frilly language does not scare me.
- You have taken every AP/honors/elective history class offered at your High School (no, but I'll have taken every literature course by next year!)
-You only watch the 'geek' channels on TV. (I'm apparently guilty of this. I asked for the remote from my dad one day, and he said: "No. You're going to turn the tv to one of your geek channels."
-You get upset when people don't care about history.
-You are currently reading a nonfiction history book. Or have read others even when you're not doing a project related to what you're reading.
-The majority of the books on your shelf are either historical or historical fiction novels. (I'm not guilty of this. My science fiction section seems to breed like tribbles, I swear! lol I think a tribble would be a cool pet. ONE tribble. Which isn't possible.)

These first two are for historical fiction writers such as myself...

- It pains you to see historical inaccuracies in your own work, causing you to trash a completely good story.

- You look into your subject for a long time before writing your next story, just to make sure that never happens again.

And then there's...

- You feel as if you're surrounded by idiots when they cannot answer a "simple" (at least for you it is! XD ) question in history class

- You have a conversation such as this:

(Name erased for privacy): Mm, they didn't have printing presses in the late 1700's I don't believe..
Jagdflieger Pips: They might have had oldsk00l ones.
Jagdflieger Pips: Johannes Gutenberg invented it somewhere around the Protestant Reformation, I think. o.o
Jagdflieger Pips: I could go check.

on a daily basis with other history loving people. XD Taken from a real conversation between me and a friend. And it was actually around the Renaissance times, so I was a bit off. n_n

... you cringe seeing a person on TV pick up a freaky artifact. Not because it's wierd looking, but because it's really old and the guy ISN'T WEARING GLOVES.

I hate reading magazines that are supposed to expand the knowledge of the general public and finding them to do nothing more than continue to spread unfounded rumors and speculation.

For example, the magazine Mental Floss a few months ago claimed that Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary, had a loveless marriage. Nothing could be further from the truth, and it pains me to see a publication with a high sale rating at my store spread such lies.

oh! I have another one.

When you're at work and you get a secret thrill when the total comes up as a recognisable year in history.

$10.66, $14.92, $17.76, $19.05, etc

also, for my inner sci-fi geek, I get a super fantastic giggle when the total comes to $10.13, hehe!
