And if you can tell me what book the title comes from, I will love you forever ;3
So. Hi. I'm Faery, and this thread is intended to store all my roleplay ideas, and be the place I come up with new ones or hash out further details on otherwise vague plot outlines. I have not the brainpower to make this pretty or eloquent, so... here we go!
WHAT I LIKE:
-----> Warring countries, culture clash -----> Gov't agent hiring services of criminal -----> Faery -----> Arranged marriage (But with politics, and brains! No insta-romance, and no emo whining over the cruel indignities you must endure as royalty. C'mon, people, you probably knew this was coming since you were old enough to understand what marriage is. )
-----> I'll do any time period, although I'm better at creating medieval countries and cultures than futuristic ones. -----> A few elements that may be mixed into the roleplay, but will probably not be the main basis for the plot: Elementals, vampires. -----> Alternatively, I'd love to try a Hellsing roleplay, playing Integra. I've never done canon before, and I've only seen the TV show, but she's one of my favorite characters ever. I think I could do decently well.
-----> These are also some books I think would be fun to start a roleplay based off of: Hawksong series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes <3 Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison <3 The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey <3 The Hollow Kingdom by Clare B. Dunkle Sabriel by Garth Nix
WHAT I'M LIKE:
-----> I adore background detail. Whatever setting we end up in, I will plan the hell out of the culture, politics, etc. This is important to me. It is often what gives my characters drive and motivation. -----> I adore shades of grey. I don't do Good v. Evil, Rebels v. Dictators, elemental mages whose personalities are defined by their magic, etc. I love conflict, but I want it to be something where each side has a reasonable grievance. If you're bad, I wanna know why. If you're good, you better have more depth than a coat of shining armor. I don't so much care whether the answer is 'the ends justify the means' or 'honor is everything', so long as it isn't obvious. If our characters are not second-guessing themselves and their convictions, the roleplay has not reached its full potential <3 -----> Things may be slow at first. The type of roleplay I prefer often follows politics and emotional discovery, but I'm not the roleplayer who can plan out emotional breaththroughs. Nor do my characters tend to be prying, friend-seeking people. Generally my plot gives us an excuse to throw our characters together and keep them together, but any nonphysical elements are more or less beyond my control.
PLOT IDEAS:
Please note, most of these are still unfinished, and require your input to finalize them :3 They are vague because I don't know who will be interested in them, and want to leave room for my partner to be anyone, not just slotted into some premade role. For the ideas that are already pretty well fleshed-out, know that I am always open to suggestions and change.
If you want to borrow an idea I have here, just ask, and I'll probably say yes =3 Even if you want it for an exclusive rp between yourself and someone not me. I'm not greedy. Better that someone is having fun with it, than no one <3
---------- 1 || Slave ----------
Zomg. Yes, a SLAVE roleplay idea. The fun of this hinges on there being a power struggle between the master and slave. I have two ways for this to go:
A) Through some set of circumstances, the master employs the slave as a spy. This gives the slave some leverage, because espionage is most effective when done freely and willingly; but, of course, the master still retains the power of life or death over the slave. I would prefer to play the slave, but I may be convinced otherwise.
B) Through some set of circumstances, a high noble/royalty employs the slave as a bodyguard. Again, the master still technically holds life and death and freedom over the slave, but the slave is responsible for their master's life. I would prefer to play the master (okay, mistress, the character I would prefer for this is female), but I may be convinced otherwise.
---------- 2 || Medieval Rebellion ----------
The setting would be a kingdom suffering from some serious class discrimination, supported by religious and/or conservative societal beliefs propagated by a powerful noble family (PNF), and tolerated --if not outright supported-- by most of the other noble houses. Hence the rise of the Rebels.
The Crown would like to do something about the disintegrating relationship between the nobles and the commoners --not all of the highborn are ignorant of the power of the People-- but the Royal hands are somewhat tied by an outside threat, which the PNF is instrumental in keeping at bay. (Perhaps the powerful noble house is the only one with magic in their bloodlines, or supplies the army with most of its iron, or guards a border against an antagonistic enemy...) And so, unable to deal with so many enemies all at once, the Crown would seek to enlist the Rebel's help in overcoming one or two of them...
I would prefer to play the Crown/Good Nobles here. Obviously, there will be a lot of doubling and NPCs, though, but I would like to have my main charrie be nobility.
---------- 3 || Medieval Arctic Epic ----------
So, this one will require a lot of input from my partner on culture and history.
The basic setting is two countries either at war or with very high tensions, bordered on one side by a mountain range that is perpetually snowy and icy.
Somehow, in a way that doesn't tickle my 'This Is Dumb and Meant For Eight-Year-Olds' radar, both countries learn of a weapon, or magical artifact, or something important hidden away in the icy wilderness, and both countries send out parties in a race to reclaim it. However, country A also sends out an agent to pose as a guide to country B's team, with the intent of killing them. But something goes wrong, and Agent A misses one of B's people. B is, for whatever reason, capable of killing A --but that would leave B stranded in an icy, treacherous land without guidance.
Does B choose to compel A to help him/her? And does B choose to go back, or press forwards, despite A's untrustworthiness?
I would prefer to play A, but may be convinced otherwise.
Also, glaciers are cool, and I'm kind of excited about exploring all the dangers of an arctic land =3 People in fantasy always obsess about fire :/ Ice is cool, too.
---------- 4 || Modern Faery ----------
Long, long ago, human mages erected a magical barrier between this world and the next, ending all travel between Earth and Faery. Some remembered the Fae's beauty and magic, and were angered by this. Some remembered their arrogance and whimsical, casual cruelty, and were relieved by this. And the Fae themselves were enraged, insulted by this limitation placed upon them by mortals who would age and die many generations over before even one new immortal was born.
But the Seal was not perfect; sometimes, inexplicably, Fae would be able to make the journey to Earth. Over the ages, as mankind slowly relegated Faery to legend and myth, two factions arose: there were those humans who kept the Seal, hunting down any Fae on Earth who were not careful to keep hidden. And then there were those who still wished to break the Seal, to reawaken all the magic and mystery that was Faery, and free the Fae from their 'wrongful' imprisonment.
So, yeah. This would probably be a group roleplay. But I need help pinning down the exact nature of the Fae, and come up with some plot regarding the weakening of the Seal and suchlike.
And yes, humans can have magic, but they keep it secret. I would need to figure out the nature of human magic, too.

So I think that all of your ideas are awesome biggrin Particularly the Medieval Arctic RP and the Slave/ Spy RP. Medieval RPing is actually my forte, as I do lots of work with Mists of Avalon/ Arthur Lore and Medieval culture (I wanted to be a knight when I was a kid, as opposed to your typical fireman xD). Not only that, but I'm actually currently in a RP that is VERY similar to that, except it takes place in mdoern day. It involves an artifact falling out of the atmosphere into Antarctica and a whole lot of crazy stuff. Check it out. Me and my friend Crysta co-wrote the story, but I bet you can tell which part is mine xD Tundra/ Operation White Nova There are two seperate agencies - one endorsed by the United Nations, the other by an unknown private employer named Mendoza. Any chance this Medieval Arctic of yours is something that you're down to start? I'll help you if you want to :3 ----------- The Spy/ Slave RP would also be wonderful if, in fact, the slave was smarter than his master. Say he used to be a Gallic tracker or woodsman (going with Roman Lore here), and his master's just a Roman Equestrian looking to spy on rival nobles, while the slave is capable of slowly using his master's plans against her, and turning her into an inescapable position where she must surrender his freedom to him or suffer total destruction of her reputation. That would also work for your scenario B, such as a gladiator or other imprisoned warrior-type. What are you think specifically for the setting? -------- I'll just start with those two, because all four of your scenarios sound like they'll be very in depth and don't want to get too ahead of myself asking you questions xD

OH GOD. I don't know that I could handle doing all four of my roleplays at once : P It might make the slow pace of EoA really nice <3
x33 Niiiice. It's kind of a more intelligent version of 'trapt in skool w/killer', is it?
But yes, I'm totally down to start any of these =3 I think...I think I can really only focus on starting them one at a time, though, especially if I have to write intros ^^;; I'm reeeeeallly slow at introductions.
----------
Weeeell...I'm not going to lock either side into being smarter or dumber 83 I have a creeping suspicion that if I roleplay with you, though, I'll be given a run for my money D:
I'm not real familiar with Roman society, so I don't know how well I could do at that. -thinkthink- I believe some women were allowed to hold property, etc... but it might have been a chancy thing, which would make things uneasy for the mistress 83 She would have promised her spy-slave his freedom for good service, anyways. He could try to trick it out of her sooner, if he likes. Or perhaps he makes a counter-offer to his mistress's enemy... I think one of the unique things about Roman society was that it was possible for people of humble origins to rise above their original station O:

For scenario B, I actually started a roleplay like this, but it died : ( But the setting I had was a kind of unspecified mix of ancient Egypt and India, and I was playing the sister to the current Emperor/Warlord/Pharoah-person.
Um...let's see. We didn't get far enough for me to get into the politics of the court, but basically the Empire is very imperialistic (rather like the Roman empire), but not everyone in the Court was happy about this. People were beginning to worry that they've overstretched themselves, and some wanted to work more on consolidating what they already had than expanding more.
The Princess was, several years ago, very outspoken about this, and to the public eye, tragically fell very ill and went into seclusion for a year or two. She is just now beginning to reenter Court life.
What really happened is that her brother poisoned her --not to kill, he still hopes to make an advantageous marriage for her-- and took her months of weakness to erode her position in Court.
She's been playing good in order to alleviate her brother's suspicions, but she plans to start working against him --and she knows that as soon as she starts making trouble, he'll start trying to stop her again. She's surrounded by servants and guards hired with her brother's coin, so she wanted someone who was not loyal to him --hence the slave.
...did that make sense?

Sounds good :] And yes, I didn't mean to imply that one of the character's would be dumb. Simply more along the lines of the slave is more capable of the job than she might expect, which leaves him to his own ends whenever she assigns him a task, or what not.
The Egypt/ India setting sounds nice. I think it's always best if you take the foundation of a culture and make it your own. That way you won't have to worry about historical missteps or anything along that line. However, that also depends on exactly what you want out of the RP. Sometimes a rigorous historical RP can be totally awesome :] I did one as Gawain opposite Mordred once, and that was wicked cool. A shame it died as well. My partner had to do something for school over the summer D:
And what are you think for your little Arctic RP? I guess, first and foremost, is which of these RPs would you like to start first

I think we should have a little three-way between us. *wink wink*
I love the idea of an arranged marriage. It just sounds so.. enticing to me. That and I now have, "This is not my idea of fun" from the Swan Princess on repeat playing in my mind.

@Bayne: Um, um, um... -flails- D: I guess...let's start the slave/spy one first, since you've already got an arctic one going? x33
So, it sounds to me like you'd like to be the slave x33 Set in a spy-type situation. I'd like to use a blend of Egypt-India culture, 'cause the clothes are pretty 8D <3 (My college roommate's Indian. I wore a sari to my freshman formal. It was win.) If my character is a princess-type person, then her enemy will probably end up being the king-type person. If she's a noble-type-person, then her enemy will probably end up being society trying to force her into a 'woman's role', and her trying to keep what power she has. Although that come dangerously close to being cliche and boring : ( I generally try to avoid having chauvinistic societies, because it tends to force people into certain types of character.
@Roses: Hi! =3 Did you have a specific rp in mind, or did you want to create a new one?

I am not very sure. I just like the idea. =P You see.. With me.. I'm very slow at replying (ask Bayne he's probably at wit's end =P) Because I tend to get pulled away from my computer... Often. So are you patient <3 And I'd love to create a new one.

Yes. I am patient x33 I have my times of slow replies, too ^^;; But I always come back! I once PMed a partner in a roleplay that died four months after the last activity and restarted it : P
Here is a link to a fairly in-depth arranged marriage roleplay I tried to start on another site a while back. Maybe this will spark an idea or two for you?

Heh. Me too. But I'm on 6 months and counting with my other One on One RPs. More or less because of school. Gotta ask them if they want to continue.
Do you happen to have a chat client that you can possibly PM to me? I'm also in the midst of typing a reply =P
I love you <3
Hmm. Would you be taking the position of the male or female? Or we can completely warp the genders. *Insert evil laughter here*

You can try to reach me at rosemary_ehlers@hotmail.com on MSN, but I'm not on right now ^^;; And lately I've been invisible when I am on.
Well...I have this favorite female character of mine : P But I realize I need to branch out more, so I'd be open to trying a guy --but I warn you, if I get his personality wrong, I'll end up losing interest : ( And that would be sad.
I could try using both : ) Being a guy AND a girl. And we could always open this up to the rest of the guild, since it was kind of designed to be a small group roleplay. You really only need three characters --one from each country-- to get things rolling.

Like I said. You me and Bayne. We should have a threeway =P
For now, as long as I don't have to be in a new Yaoi RP. I'm happy. You could open it to the rest of the guild, I'm cool with that. I can play both genders fairly well. But I need to open more to older people... Like... Old older. =P Like grandpa and Grandma or middle age. So if we do open this to the guild. I might just end up playing a mean old parent. =P
Having favorite characters are bad D< when you recycle them too often!

x333 I'll open it up to the guild. But not right now DDD: I have some chores to do...and then dinner. And then dancing ^^;; But I think I can have it up by midnight Mountain Standard Time. Which is...seven hours from this post : P
I know it's bad! D: But it takes me forever to come up with new characters who consistently hold my interest. I've really only got...two. Although Aria frequently comes with secondary characters that are interesting x3

I think a three way involving the Arctic might be very interesting, or even the rebellion. The only thing about an arranged marriage is, well, that only takes two people. The third person would just be an awkward third wheel xD
We could do a necromancer/ seance type RP? Where it's not so much focused on the action of owning people with zombies as it is discovering the ability to ressurect the dead. Say, three college students, or archeologists?
