I went to my threads today in the ED. What I saw amazed me.

There are now buttons to report threads and even posts. Not only in the ED, but even in the RP and Chatterbox, so I must assume it is everywhere.

Perhaps this show of an easier access to punishment is the first step.

(And when did the mods get this idea? I was so going to be the one to suggest stuff... crying )

Personally, I think it's once step towards becomming Neopets.

I think it is not a step toward becoming like Neopets, rather a similarly used step pushing in the opposite direction. I do not know when this decision was made but my sources on the inside say that it is a response to the complaints of many of both the people in our guild and our peers of similar minds. It is apparently directed mainly at the problems in the ED.

I've seen many other phpBB boards that have this same reporting system, and no one has suffered from massive head explody. I don't think this is a step towards Neopets or Nazism. I think it's a step towards holding the moderators accountable for their jobs. Sure, this system can be abused to hell and back, but those IPs are logged and such abuse theoretically won't last for long.

I'm for it, that's for certian.

It doesn't seem that useful to me. They're saying you can only use them when someone is breaking the TOS. This won't help with the removal of countless spam and repeat threads in the ED because...

Basically, in can only be used if someone is posting porn, trolling, encouraging suicide... etc.

I think the best way to get rid of all the spam is to make a large list of all the threads that are on the first 3 pages and send them into a mod by the end of the day. domokun

Hey look, I finally posted in this guild.

Anyway, I think the reporting thing is completely retarded. The median age for gaia users is, what, 14? that means there are tons of people below that age who are just gonna use it to report threads made by people they don't like.

And about tracking IPs of people who abuse the system, what about dial-up users? Don't they have a different IP every time they log onto the internet? I'm not sure if that's how it works, but that would suck for the people trying to stop the report abuses AND for any other unlucky intarweb go-er who signs on dial up and happens to be on the same IP.
