Yemon twisted his hair with practiced fingers, pinning the proper amount of hair back with his most prized possession. Not that he would tell anyone that, since he felt it was such an obvious thing. He brushed his fingers along the lotus clip, eyes trained on his reflection, and on the market behind him. There really had to be a reason that he continued to come to this place. Maybe he was craving some sort of interaction since he was avidly avoiding his brother. That probably wasn't it. Turning around to take in the town, he frowned. It wasn't a place he'd been before. Of course, that wasn't saying much. Every time he ventured here, he went someplace new. He supposed he wanted to learn the lay out of this place.

It was early evening, the sun just starting to set. Yemon wondered if he should head back toward the shrine. As it were, he wouldn't be back before hard. Frowning again, he turned his steps back the way he had come. Only to stop when some man staggered out of a nearby building and slammed into him. The force of it made him fall back a step, catching himself on the side of one of the building. With a muttered sorry, the man vanished down the street. Yes. It was defiantly time to go home. Reaching up to touch his clip, just to make sure it was still there, Yemon started past the door to the bar, he assumed that's what it was. What other reason could that man have for staggering like that? Yes, time to go home. Not like there was anything else here to keep him entertained.

"Hey wait!" Yoko shouted, bursting from the door and running into the well dressed... boy? or was it a girl... She shook her head and stood up "You ok?" she offered a hand to the person she had ran over. "Sorry I ran you over, just that was one of our actors for tonight..." She explained apologetically. She glanced up and into the distance before sighing, "And it appears he has skipped out on us." she stated matter-of-fact-ly.

Yemon actually fell over this time when a woman came barreling out of the bar. He glared up at her through a sheen of his own hair, the clip having come loose. Ignoring the hand she was offering, he stood up on his own, frowning at her. It only took a moment to fix his hair, securing his clip in his hair again. He took that moment to look at the women, noting the eye patch, of all things. "I'm fine." He said softly, still frowning. "Sorry for your loss." With a pleased smirk that said that he wasn't sorry at all, that she deserved such a thing for running into him like that, he started dusting off his kimono. He didn't take his eyes from the strange woman, though, wondering what she was going to do about the loss of the actor person.

Yoko smirked, "Is that so? Lucky~" She drawled and grabed the boy/girls arm and pulled him/her into the building, "I'm Yoko." She introduced herself quickly and then turned to the stunned crew before her.

"Everyone!" She called out, "Look! A replacement!" She declared, pointing at the person beside her. "I don't know if its a girl or boy, but the attitude is perfect!" She beamed at the person she had just knocked down.

"YAHOO!"

"Yay!"

Shouts came form every direction in what appeared to be a small theater. There were only a few actors on stage, and the stage itself was made of wood. There were lighting devices, and benches for the audience. Overall it was a fairly low scale production place.

But the people were nice. When Yoko met them they had needed another person to play a female role, and now they had just lost a male role, and a person who could be either gender showed up.

It was a lucky night.

Yemon found himself being dragged inside by the older woman before he had even the slightest chance to protest. She let him go, presenting him to the room as a 'replacement.' Opening his mouth to say that he was no such thing, he twitched as the words stuck in his throat.

"I don't know if its a boy or a girl."

And she was beaming at him, like she didn't know the grave insult she had just handed him. Looking at her again, he was pretty sure she didn't. First she runs him over, then she drags him inside... Taking a deep breath to calm himself slightly, he looked up at her, ignoring most everyone else in the room. They really didn't matter, since the woman was probably the only thing between him and the door.

"Yoko, was it?" He started calmly, masking his irritation with a sweet smile. Oh, how he just wanted to vent his temper out on this woman, this Yoko. But, that probably was a bad idea. There really were too many people in the room to insult her, or the production without the possibility of bodily harm. "What exactly are you trying to sign me up for?" He asked, in the sweetest possible voice while he wondered how to make her pay for this.

"Hmm?" Yoko smiled at the boy, "Oh! Tonight is the opening night and they lost two of their actors." Yoko explained. "Such a lucky thing you were just outside..." She leaned in and whispered into the person's ear, "By the way, are you male or female?" she put on an apologetic grin, "There are so many men that look like girls around here that it is hard to tell ya know?"

Yemon's hands curled int fists, nails biting into his skin. Surprisingly, he found this calmed him. A bit. Of course, his sleeves hid the motion from the room. Obiously, whatever caused the damage to your eye messed up your brain to, you over bearing cow, because I am obviously a Boy! Oh, how he longed to say that. Or something like that. There were too many people here for him to do so, however. Damn. Damn damn damn. He had just wanted to go home!

"Opening night for what, exactly?"
He asked, still grinning. She obviously didn't understand what the word exactly meant since she had answered so vaguely. And he couldn't believe he was going to answer her question. Dropping his voice to a whisper, mainly just to match hers, he forced the word out. "Male." He wasn't gonna be angry. He wasn't going to be angry. His nails dug a bit harder into his palms.

Yoko's eyes widened, "Really? oh thats great!" Yoko sighed relieved. "Sorry I thought you were, but women get so angry if you call them boys..." she chuckled, "But men can put up with it, since they are better than that no?" She asked rhetorically. She smiled, "And this is a play." She pointed to the obvious set on stage, "I thought I had said actors... oh well." Yoko grabbed the boy's arm and pulled him along to the dressing rooms, "I think you are just as tall as the last guy too, so you should fit the costume... you have no idea how lucky we are you came along. I mean..." she looked to and fro as they escaped behind the heavy curtain and then she started again in a whisper, "...after they found me they all cheered up a bit, they were so excited, I would have hated to see all this hard work go to waste because one guy got drunk and ran out..." She smiled at the boy, "Really. Thanks a bunch." She chuckled. "Ah Saku!" Yoko called out suddenly.

Another girl came up, her clothes were plain, but she looked pretty. "Can you get him into costume?" Yoko presented the well dressed boy to the girl.

Yemon glared silently at her for a moment, feeling foolish for a moment about being so angry. He got over that rather fast. Put up with being called a girl, being better than that? Well, he was, but it didn't stop him from being angry at the half blind girl. There were half a million ways to determine if someone was a boy or a girl that didn't involve asking them outright in front of a group of actors. He was then jerked around by the insolent woman, dragging him into what he thought had to be a dressing room. What the hell was she thanking him for? It wasn't like he'd agreed to do this thing?

Jerking his arm away from the woman, he straightened. "Costume?" That wasn't the question that he wanted to ask, but the fact he was suddenly presented with the other girl, and what she represented, stole whatever words he had. What the hell? It was all moving to fast for him to process, to retaliate. To think. Damn. He'd been spending too much time alone. His smile felt wrong, strained. Cursing fluently in his head, he took a deep breath. "You are going to try to shove me into a costume designed for someone else, force me to act in play I know nothing about, and drag me around like some kind of child? All without even asking my name? Or for my permission?" He let his voice drop to a piercing whisper on the last word, barely more than a hiss.

Yoko blinked a few times at the sudden outburst. "Well, first of all you didn't give me your name, despite the fact that I offered mine. So I figured you didn't want to give it. Second you said you were sorry for our loss, so I figured that you understood our circumstances. Finally if you think you are the only one wearing a costume for someone else, or entering a play they don't know about tonight, remember that I'm in the same boat." Yoko explained evenly. "Additionally I have not treated you like a child, you have had every opportunity to say 'No' or 'I don't want to do this'. Only a child would need someone to present an open invitation as an offer clearly, since children are the only ones who wouldn't know to take charge. I didn't need to ask your permission with an open offer, you needed to refuse. You didn't refuse, so that is as good as acepting... don't you think Saku?"

The poor girl nodded, "Sure...Um, while you two are talking I'm going to finish getting some of the props ready..." she made her excuse and left quickly.

"See?" Yoko pointed, "Its not like you are being forced to stay here. I thought it was great that you were there when we needed someone. I felt that I could depend on you to help out since you seemed to understand. But if you have something better to do then by all means you can leave. It will be hard on us but its not like our situation would be any worse then if you had not showed up." Yoko walked over to the clothes rack and pulled out a noble suit from the time of the Renaissance in France.

"This is your costume." Yoko explained and placed it on a table beside the boy, "You can put it on and help us out, or you can go. Regardless I'll be back in five minutes." She went to the door.

"Oh, and if you don't like something, maybe you should try saying so sooner rather than making things difficult on other people because you are not assertive in what you want." Yoko Smirked, "Just some advice, take if it you like." She departed to check on her own costume.

Yemon looked at the costume and frowned. She said that he'd had every opportunity, but he hadn't. Refusing to do something without knowing what it was was silly. He still didn't know anything other than it was a play of some sort and the costume was noble, french? And that didn't tell him much. Five minutes, she had said. And here he was, still frowning at the costume. Help them out? How, exactly? Pinching the bridge of his nose, he sighed.

This wasn't Yoko's production. By doing what he wanted to and getting into that costume, he would set out to make the play an utter failure. Mainly to get back at Yoko for putting him in this position in the first place. Didn't the woman understand sarcasm? But, it wouldn't be directed at Yoko. The act would strike at everyone on stage, and anyone involved off stage. And that was low.

Sighing, he closed his eyes. He still should have a few minutes. What did he want to do? Leaving was starting to look like the best option. His fingers traced some of the embroidery on the suit. What to do, what to do.

Yoko got dressed, she was to play an extra in the back ground who had a few lines. It was lucky for her too. She removed and hung up her extraordinary Kimono and her eye patch as well.

She rubbed her spare eye. It was a little weird to be without the patch on, but the curtain would be long enough away that she should adjust before then. She took a few steps and wobbled. It was far too much information after having adjusted to one eye for the last week.

Granted she needed to change eyes every so often...

Yoko continued to dress in her pants and shirt set. She looked like a beggar for the street scene.

"Yoko-san?" A small voice called out. Yoko turned to her door where Saku stood.

"Is he dressed?" Yoko asked, half expecting to hear he ran off. If he had, she wouldn't blame him.

"I... um... can you check?"

Yoko smirked, "Sure" she took a few steps. She was getting use to this. Saku instantly was gone from the door which was convenient. Yoko didn't have to worry about running her over.

The dressing room where she had left the boy wasn't far. She knocked when she got there. The door didn't open from the pressure which meant it was still latched. She stood there contemplating how long she should wait before she opened the door....

Yemon stared at the costume for a moment more, tracing around the buttons with a finger before he moved toward the door. He unlatched in and regarded the woman who'd knocked with a glare. She looked terrible. But that was her costume, so he dismissed it and studied her. He was still in his kimono, having made his decision to not act. He couldn't bring himself to act on stage. It wasn't fear of the stage, or having people looking at him, or anything like that. He just didn't want to do it.

"Well, at least your costume suits you." He drawled, rolling his eyes. "I regret that I will not be joining you for this..." He waved his hand absently. "production." She was standing in the doorway, which blocked his was out. So he did have to wait for her to move.

"I have no desire to stand on stage beside you." He said softly. "And since it is not your production, I have no desire to make a mockery of it. It is best that I leave. For the sake of your cast, of course." He grinned at her, waiting. She could either get angry at him, or not. He didn't particularly care. Maybe if she had bothered to explain the part to him, or at least gave him more of a clue than the outfit still laid out behind him, he would had agreed to be a stand in. As it were, he didn't have the slightest clue of what they would expect of him. And he did not enjoy entering any situation without knowing what it was.

Yoko shrugged, "You really don't get it. You speak as though you are attempting to help, but all you are doing is passively hurting." She told the boy, "You really are just a kid." She commented, slipping past the boy to grad the precious costume.

"I'm sorry I thought that you were more reliable than that." She explained to the boy, "I'll remember this for the future. For now, its probably best if you just leave through the back. If you go out the front the rest of the cast might harass you." she pointed the way.

Once she was done with that Yoko turned and left. She would need to change parts. This one was more important than her other, somehow they would make it work. Yoko etched the face of the boy in her brain. She would never forget that he was one of the most unreliable, untrustworthy, and perhaps the most unpleasant person she had ever met.

Yemon wondered if that was supposed to make him feel shame. All it accomplished was to make him laugh softly as she grabbed the costume from him. He waited until she was safely gone before finding his way out the back, smiling to himself. How asinine for her to think he was reliable instantly upon meeting him. It had no value to him, no worth, so why should he pretend to care about some back-alley production. He pushed out the back, not concerned with it any longer.

"Better passively hurting then actively." He said to no one.
