Next Day of Silence : April 16th, 2010
"The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Each year the event has grown, now with hundreds of thousands of students coming together to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior."
Essentially its a day for all people who support gays and trans to stay silent. They don't talk for the entire day, to get attention from the officials in the schools. The goal is to get the school to acknowledge that harassment for sexual orientation is wrong.
Most not only stay silent, but go to school dressed in rainbow and other pro-homosexual clothing.
"2007 national survey found that 9/10 LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans) students report verbal, sexual, or physical harassment at school and more that 30% report missing at least a day.
The Day of Silence is a call to action. Students use this day as a means of achieving an "ask". As ask is a very specific action that calls for a change in school policies, claimate and culture to achieve a larger goal of safe schools for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. Some examples of an as include: adding sexual orientation and gender identity/expression in your school's non-discrimination or anti-harassment policy, or training teachers to respond effectively to antu LGBT bullying, harassment, and name-calling."
