Onie

Name: Onie (Oh-nee)
Gender: female
Age: 18
Sexual Orientation: heterosexual
Rank: Goldweyrling (Junior)

Appearance: Onie can't be described as beautiful. Indeed, her one feature that makes her stand out would be her hair. It is long, lustrous, shiny, and black, with a barely noticeable widow's peak. The rest of her body is like a compilation of parts that want to be beautiful, but don't quite succeed.

Her skin is fair, but has almost a sickly pallor to it. Her wide green eyes are just a bit too big, spaced just a tad too far apart -- giving her a look of perpetual surprise. Her mouth is small, her cheekbones sculpted almost to emaciation. Her nose is straight and narrow, with nostrils that flare when her anger is hot. Her entire face is oval shaped. No blemishes or scars mark her face, except one small brown dot close to the lobe of her left ear.

Onie is tall for a woman, almost 6'1" in boots. She is thin, breakably so. While she does have curves, they disproportionate on a body such as hers. Her legs are long and thin, bony at the knees though her ankles have a pleasing smallness. With small feet it's hard for Onie to find boots that fit her well. She dresses simply, in either a plain dress or a tunic and skirt. She dislikes wearing leggings casually due to her mother's constant instruction in hold decorum.

She always, always carries herself erect and when sitting she pays the utmost attention to good posture. Her movements have a sort of determination in them, as if picking up a cup of klah is vital to surviving. She isn't exactly graceful, but her motions are always calculated and executed without any extraneous action.

Personality: Despite her fragile appearance, Onie is anything but. Inside that pale, skinny body is a backbone of pure steel. Where Onie gets her inner strength from is unknown, as her mother was a soft individual and her father, while strong, was not filled with the utter determination that she is. Her belief in hard work and her conviction that she should get it done is surprisingly strong.

Certainly less than verbose, Onie's quiet demeanor is often viewed as snobbery when really she's just . . . quiet. When she does speak her words are carefully considered before they escape her mouth. She is very witty but due her to lack of verbal intercourse few realize this until becoming close with her. Occasionally she'll let her wit flash out or make a joke, but this doesn't occur often as in Onie's mind few situations warrant it.

Her inquisitve mind leads her to making conversation sometimes, though she prefers to discover things on her own. She is interested in the history of Pern and loves going through old records, deciphering the ailments and victories of the past. She enjoys, also, discovering new ways of doing things. Though she appears inflexible Onie is actually quite open to change.

Onie's temper is slow to arouse but once she gets started there's no stopping her. She is normally patient and tolerant with people she dislikes though when insulted or used once too often she can explode with a force belied by her solemn outer shell. She also does not forget past slights easily.

She has a talent for leadership but her unfortunately is too taciturn to take much initiative where people are involved. Her strengths lie in discretion and getting things done alone.

History: Onie is the daughter of the late Werek and the still-living Malana. Werek and Malana were married young, and after several attempts at conception had failed the two took in a fosterling named Buron. Six years later, Onie was born despite the lack of confidence the hold's healer had in a successful pregnancy. Malana's pregnancy went well and Onie was born without any maladies. Even her extreme paleness, which caused much worry, was discovered to be merely her skin tone and nothing life threatening.

Onie's mother, Malana, was the third daughter of a lord holder who had married below her station. Though no longer wealthy or in a position of leadership Malana strived to instill decorum and a sense of pride in Onie. The girl blossomed under Malana's teaching, always using etiquette as a fallback in tough social situations.

Onie grew up beside Buron and the two had a bond like that of a true sibling pair. Bereft when Buron was Searched Onie took solace in the record rooms of the hold. There she read about legendary dragonriders and how they saved Pern, or stopped a calamity, or united the Weyrs. Her mind became filled with the stories of dragonriders and the respect for them that she had been taught turned into a genuine admiration. Despite the whispers that dragonriders were stuck up and lecherous Onie staunchly supported them.

One turn after Buron impressed and left the hold Werek died, leaving Malana a widow with two fosterlings and their one natural child. Malana grieved, but soon remarried a gentle and kind Weaver called Halas. Halas, Malana, and the children in their care relocated to a crafthall. Onie loved it there, but a visit from B'ron changed everything. B'ron's Hath was quite taken with Onie and believed she had potential, and the girl was encouraged to come to Telgar Weyr and stand as a candidate. Onie simply couldn't resist after all of the time she had spent poring over old records. She had a chance to make her dream come true, and looked forward to her part in the future of Pern.

Pet(s): none
Other: Onie is the foster sibling of B'ron, and the two are extremely close.

Yokaith

Name: Yokaith (U-kith)
Color:
Gold
Age: Hatchling
Final Size: 37.8 dragonfeet

Appearance: Yokaith is a small, petite gold dragon. Her hide is more white-gold in color, the essence of youth always present because of the darker gold spots and spangles that decorate her hide. These markings are mainly found near her legs and eyeridges, though there is a ring of them around her tail as well. Her eyes are close set and round, with petite eyeridges. Her snout is shorter than average as well. Though she is well proportioned she appears fragile, and land-walking is made slow by her short little legs. Understated is the key word when describing Yokaith, as everything from her frame to her coloring is pale and diminutive. Even her wing membranes are a tad paler than what is considered the norm. This little Queen, despite her small size, carries herself with innate grace and pride.

Personality: As a gold, Yokaith is well aware that she is at the top of the food chain both physically and authoritatively. Described as the ultimate predator, the gold is both knowledgeable and cunning as well as adaptable to almost every situation.

However, Yokaith is young, and hasn't reached her full mental potential. At this age she is naive and quite gullible, believing what she is told without question. She will believe nearly every strange tale told to her, with a mighty conviction. As she grows she will become wiser and be able to discern the truth from lies.

Yokaith is quite capable of getting whatever she wants, whether it be a bauble or a piece of information. She engages in a bartering system with other dragons and even humans, willing to be bribed for information. If no bribes are offered, Yokaith has no qualms about pushing or threatening the other party. Luckily for whoever or whatever has what she desires, she is kept in line by the more senior queens in the Weyr.

As Yokaith is the most junior of the queens she is often mutinous when given instruction. Though she would never go so far as to disobey Svrieth she makes certain that everyone is aware of how unhappy she is -- and it is never good for this gold to be unhappy. Wing drills, especially, are often lazy affairs for her. However, when Thread actually falls she will put aside her selfishness and rise to the occasion.

As far as Flights go, this gold dragon is the most daring of them all. She believes that the bronzes and browns are her prey instead of the other way around and will lead them on a scary and captivating chase, choosily selecting the best dragon to catch her in the end. Even though Yokaith has yet to clutch, when the time comes she will be a loving mother. No complaints from this one during the gestational period! The Candidates may find that getting near the eggs is a sore trial, as Yokaith will not trust anyone near her dear offspring.
