Hands behind her back, Epeelyn ambled along, head tilted upwards as she examined the tree canopies above her. She'd never seen trees this tall back in her home. In fact, where she had lived before being spirited away here, there were no trees like this. Every now and then there would be a stunted example with minimal growth, but nothing like these behemoths. Taking a deep breath, she stopped and turned, throwing her eyes back towards where she had come from. The weyr seemed peaceful. "And oh so borin'." she commented quietly to herself. Compared to her previous life of tumbling, spying, and thieving, living here with the riders and dragons was just plain dull. So she decided to get away, just for the afternoon. It wasn't like she was shirking her duties. Those had been done for the day. Honestly, she doubted she'd be missed. Besides, she'd be back for the evening meal anyway.

Turning back around, she continued meandering through the forest, following paths that others seemed to have worn already. Impulsively, Epee walked to a tree and jumped, grabbing a low-hanging branch. She easily pulled herself up on to it and jumped to the next. Crouching on the branch, she looked around, considering others. Taking a deep breath, she jumped from her branch, reaching out to grab one in another tree. Managing to catch it, she pulled herself on and grinned at her success. Hey, this could be fun! Feeling bold, she tried again to another tree. This one, however, she missed. Failing to grab it, she began to fall. Holding her breath, she landed on her feet, rolling forward to absorb the impact. She lay on her back for a moment before laughing and sitting up, idly rubbing at her feet which still ached a little. "Hmm, maybe doing tha' wasn't such a good idea." she said ruefully to herself.

L'Von

L'von had been feeling restless and overwhelmed since the gather and felt the need to leave the enclosed quarters of the weyr. He was used to the inner conversation he shared with Sukarth, and asked him if he'd enjoyed the gather.

After a few minutes and no response L'von assumed that Sukarth had decided to take a nap after the excitement of the gather, now the he no longer had to worry about being in the way of older dragons frequently popping in and out of between.

Since there was no response, he walked out of the weyr and down to the woods. L'von shivered regretting that he had only put on a light jacket instead of his heavier riding one. He continued slowly towards the forest and could see the trees getting closer. He shut his eyes tightly and inhaled the refreshing scent of wood.

L'von was enjoying the quiet peaceful time, when he heard a laugh coming from in the woods. The laugh snapped him from his reverie, and he called out, "Whose there?"

Rashal had missed the Gathering, but he didn't much mind. Being around lots of people like that had never truly suited him. Too many bad memories of the rough-housing he had received in the past. Oh well. He'd meet the rest of the weyr soon enough.

He decided he'd spend some time traveling around the outside, seeing where he was gonna be living for the next little while. He spent some time just traveling around on the given path, but he'd also climbed a few trees to get a more aerial view. After all, if he was going to impress, it'd help to be able to recognize places from the air. As he leaped from one tree to another, he nearly missed the branch as he heard a thud a short ways away. He dropped to the ground and walked to where the sound had come from.

He soon found a woman sitting on the ground, who he assumed was where the sound had come from. "Miss a branch?" he asked.

To say that Epeelyn was surprised would have been an understatement. Hearing a voice caused her to surge up into standing, bouncing on the balls of her feet. When she was convinced the person meant no harm, she called out. "Aye! Over here. My name's Epeelyn. S'only me."

Once again startled a young man randomly dropped from the trees, she amended her statement. "Me an' one other person!" she called out before looking at the man before her, tilting her head slightly to the side, amber eyes guarded but a smile on her face. "Yeah, I did. Can't say tree jumping was one of my usual skills." she told him before holding out a hand. "The name's Epeelyn, but you can call me Epee. Who're you? You don't really have any knots, so I'm betting you're a candidate like me, eh?" she asked, her normal nosy self.

L'von followed the voice into the woods. He thought he recognized the name, but didn't remember if it belonged to one of the new candidates or just one of the people visiting for the gather.

Once he saw her, he smiled and said "I'm L'von, one of the senior weyrlings. My dragon is bronze Sukarth." He extended his hand in friendship because once he saw her face he knew she was one of the candidates.

"You're one of the candidates? Aren't you?" he asked just to be certain of his presumption.

Then he saw another young man, who also appeared to be a candidate. "Am I interrupting anything?" He asked, hoping he wasn't.

Rashal took her hand and shook it firmly. "Yep. Name's Rashal," he said. "I been hunting a couple times, and sometimes it's easier when you've got some height. Getting from tree to tree's a bit easier when you start off a little higher."

As the second man approached, he turned to him. "Just a greeting such as your own," he said calmly. "We're apparently having a conversation about jumping from tree to tree. Ever tried?"

Zaira left the Weyr and headed out through the thick trees after her chores were done. She heard voices up ahead after a mysterious thud. She caught a low branch and went skyward through the tree until the top branches began to mix. She went easily from tree to tree this way and was silently positioning herself above the three others below her. She made her way down the tree and was close enough to hear but not be seen. She wasn't wearng a pair of shoes and was in a torn up tunic. With fingerless gloves on her hands she readied herself to drop into the conversation.

She leaned forwards and leapt from the tree and landed behind Rashal, only because she'd met him earlier this morning in a hall in the Weyr. She wrapped an arm around his throat and pulled his arm behind his back. Leaning in she smiled at everyone else and whispered in his ear, loud enough for everyone else to hear as well, "I've been hunting before to." She let him go and stepped back, a smile playing at her mouth. "Sorry if I startled anyone, or offended. I'm Zaira, I didn't mean to interupt but I just couldn't help myself."

Looking to the weyrling, she nodded. "Why yes, I am a candidate. How'd you guess?" she asked impishly, rocking back and forth on her heels as she pushed her hands behind her back as she grinned at him.

Quickly shifting her attention to Rashal, she nodded. "I s'pose it would help. But I'm a tumbler. S'not often I encounter heights unless I'm walkin' a tight-rope." she explained. "So you really couldn't expect me to know that right off the bat, eh? I will keep the tip in mind, though, I promise."

Epeelyn narrowed her amber eyes as a girl dropped from the trees. Faranth, was everyone traveling this way now? She frowned in disapproval as the girl wrenched Rashal's arm behind his back, for no reason mind you. "Epeelyn." she replied to the girl, not bothering to give her the nickname she tended to go by. It wasn't often she was sharp with people, but she couldn't help what she felt.

Rashal smiled at Epee. "Well, no, I don't expect anyone to know that their first time. But it's not like it could hurt to know later, right?" he asked coyly.

Rashal heard the soft thud from the landing, and felt the pressure on his throat and his elbow. He waited for a moment once the pressure was gone, then his arm swung out like a spring, making an arc backwards. As soon as he felt it make contact, he turned, dropping his weight and swinging his leg at the person standing behind him. He straightened as he saw who stood behind him. "Sorry 'bout that, Zaira" he muttered, rubbing his neck. "Reflex." Instinctfully, he laughed.

((How do you pronounce Epeelyn's name? I keep saying it like Ep-eh-lyn. I can't quite get her name right.))

Zaira saw the arm swing back and lifted hers reflexivly (sp?) but didn't see the leg come around as well. She hit the ground flat on her back and laid there for a moment. When Rashal turned around and saw it was her she caught the comment in her ringing ears and started to bust up laughing. Sitting up, not wanting to chance toppling over by standing just yet, she pulled her legs up to her chest and crossed her arms over her legs looking up at everyone. "Wow, I haven't been thrown like that since my brothers and I would tumble." She started to laugh again and stand, gaining her balance. She didn't bother to dust herself off, she was heading out to get dirty anyway. She extended a hand toward Epeelyn. "It's nice to meet you Epeelyn." She said with a smile. She wasn't being mean but she had seen Rashal pull the same trick earlier when she had met him in the hall. Only how he got up in the rafters she'll never know.

L'Von smiled and said to Epeelyn, "I remembered your name from the candidates gathering." He looked at the other two people that were in the trees with Epeelyn, and said "That both of you are candidates as well. Right?"

"I just came out for some air." L'von stated. Then he asked, "What exactly were all of you doing in the trees? It's not the greatest time of year to be swinging in them."

L'von looked out over the forest, and back to the candidates. "I'm sure the three of you will have plenty of time to get to know these wood," he said, "but, I guess you should take the time before the dragons hatch. They will consume the next few months of your lives."

(It is pronounced Ep-ee-lyn, okay? A sharp e sound, not soft. =3)

Eyes widening minutely, Epee watched in fascination as Rashal lashed out against Zaira. Huh, that was very quick. She rolled her eyes slightly before smiling once more. She eyed the girl who was now on the ground and shrugged. "Well I can certainly say it has been interesting so far, Zaira." she told to the girl.

Very quickly she transferred her attention to L'von. "I was just trying something out, to tell you the truth. I probably had no business up there, which is why I fell. No big deal, though. I don't often get hurt even when I fall from a high distance since I've been trained to deal with the impact properly." she explained quickly to him.

Rashal grinned and made a mocking bow to Zaira. "Why thank you, my dear," he said in a sarcastic voice. He straightened up and stretched his arm. "Now, I strongly suggest you not do it again, or I probably won't stop after the two swings."

Rashal then turned toward L'von. "I was up there trying to get a view of the area around here. No point in Impressing if I don't know what anything looks like, right?"

Finally, he turned to look at Epee and pointed at Zaira, an almost arrogant smile on his face. "Am I good or what?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 13, 2009 9:09 am

(( Thanks that was really confusing for me. (says name over and over for the next five minutes) ))

Zaira turned to look at L'von and gave an overexaggerated bow. "Am I that obvious as to which I cannot hide my true identity? Or the blasphamis shame of it all!" She said covering her eys with the crook in her left arm. She kneeld to the ground face down all in one smooth jesture showing nothing of her face. A smile pulling at the corners of her mouth she stood and gave the small crowd a crooked smile. Twitter popped into existence aboe them and landed upside down on the tree behind Zaira. Giving a chirp he looked at everyone with curious blue swirling eyes. Laughingly, Zaira picked her blue up and placed him on her shoulder. He sent her a replay of her performance and she laughed again. "You saw that huh?" She asked as she scratched his little eye ridges.

The tumbler turned candidate grinned at Rashal. "Yes, I must admit you were quite quick on the uptake there." she complimented with a nod. "You practice fighting a lot?" she questioned, her brows scrunching up in curiosity. However, the candidate was distracted at Zaira's dramatics. Eyebrows arched, she eyed the girl and her odd behavior. Before she could comment on her actions and words, however, her flitt popped up. "Uh, I didn't know that flitters could hang upside down like that." she voiced doubtfully. She hadn't been aware flitts were equiped to being able to pose like that. As far as she knew, they could only sit upright and use their feet to balance themselves. But eh, what did she know? It wasn't like she had a fire lizard herself.
