My name is Josh I am a 1st Kyu in Shotokan Karate...Ive been doing it for 6 years since I was 12 years old...I also do a little jiu jitsu for fun but I take more pride in my karate skills....

I looked up to Shihan John Roseberry. 50 yrs in the martial arts, 3 time all marine corp judo champ, 1976(?) olympic judo alternative for the american team, and Kudan in Goju.

Im not so much a hardcore fan...but I do know Mikio Yahara is one of the best Shotokan fighters in the world he is a tenth dan... but he is old as s**t...He is the modern day mr miyagi

I thought Funakoshi brought shotokan to japan from Okinawa... question

My school used to teach Japanese Goju ryu from Gogen Yamaguchi but my instructor went to Okinawa for several years and started teaching Okinawan Goju ryu that was directly linked to Chojun Miyagi.

I thought Funakoshi brought shotokan to japan from Okinawa... question Actually, the basic system that is now Shotokan was in Okinawa til Funakoshi's son formulated it into the style we know it as by giving it a "Japanese" touch to it.
