((I hope I did the labeling thing right . . .))
It was about midday when Hath woke up, feeling hungry. Rousing his rider (with some difficulty) the brown dragon decided that a nice feeding was certainly in order and afterward a frolic in the lake would be a satisfying accompaniment to a pleasant meal. He waited impatiently for B'ron to mount, and once he did, Hath swooped over the Weyr Bowl to the feeding grounds. He dove after a plump heardbeast after depositing his rider on a ledge overlooking the field.
After sating his hunger the brown dragon met his rider at the shore of the lake and, rising to a suitable altitude, prepared to dive in.
Hath, please don't di--
Hath's dive caused such a splash that it cut off his rider's thought. B'ron was thoroughly soaked. The man shook his head, trying to get the water off of his face and blinking rapidly to get it out of his eyes.
What was that? Hath asked as he rose from the water from air, his head turned toward B'ron with eyes whirling a playful blue.
Hath's facetiousness was not lost on B'ron, who couldn't restrain a loud whoop of laughter at the brown's antics. With a resigned air the man removed his tunic and laid it on a rock to dry. He briefly considered removing his pants, but if a lady of the Weyr happened upon him it certainly wouldn't do to be caught naked. He wrung the legs of his pants out the best he could and found another large, nearly flat rock to stretch out on as Hath rolled about in the water. Yes, B'ron thought to himself, maybe someone would come along . . .

It was reassuring, Ixiara thought, to see something that was familiar.
Grinning as she watched the heardbeasts in their enclosure, she leaned slightly against the railing in front of her. Since she had been searched everything had gone by so quickly that there had barely been time to keep up. It was very disconcerting, she thought as her smile faded slightly, to be uprooted in so swift a manner. She had never traveled very far in her life, preferring to stay at home in the territory she knew well. Even when she was watching the herds at home, alone - the only human source of protection for the livestock, she had been secure in her familiarity.
However, one thing would never change: chores. It was comforting to have some sort of manual labor to do - it forced Ixiara to focus only on what she was doing at the moment and to forget anything else that was bothering her. Indeed, as she bent to pick up the wheelbarrel meant for collecting manure she could almost imagine that she was still home: picking up raw materials for fertilizer was one of the first chores she had been given as a child.
As she began to unlatch the gate, though, she suddenly saw a brown shape descend upon the herd and send them off running. Her breath left her as she watched the graceful animals pick a sufficiently plump beast and make his meal of it. The whole process took less than a minute, but it was burned into her head. Yes... this was why she had agreed to come. To have a shot at becoming a dragon rider... to share in the legendary bond that turned the riders into the elite... It was what kept her hopes up, and what made her decide to fix this moment in her mid forever.
... At least until she saw how the dragon ate. Then she turned away in disgust. She had seen herdbeasts butchered before, it was part of her job after all, but this was different: this had sound effects. Letting a few stray pieces of hair fall into her face, she quietly shuffled forward and set to work. Ixiara kept her mind firmly on the task at hand, hoping she would not vomit, and praying that no one saw the green tinge to her cheeks.

Mine? Hath said to B'ron. He still sometimes called his rider 'mine', though he was six turns old. It was an affectionate endearment and he knew that B'ron always smiled when he said it.
Yes, Hath? B'ron asked, rousing from his light doze.
There is a girl pushing something in front of her in the field.
Pushing what?
B'ron struggled to sit up. Hath had taken to keeping a faceted watch for social oppurtunities for B'ron. The rider enjoyed conversation as much as the dragon enjoyed his naps.
I cannot tell what. It looks like a small cart. Hath said, sending a mental image to his rider's mind.
"Oh!" B'ron said aloud. "That's a wheelbarrel. It looks like she's got the worst of the Candidate chores." He paused. "No one is around. I could probably help her . . ." Trailing off, the rider got up and with some difficulty put his wet tunic back on. His foster mother had always drilled him in proper etiquette concerning ladies. Walking up to a female that he didn't have an intimate relationship with in nothing but his pants would certainly have shocked Melana and earned him a scolding.
B'ron strode confidently out to the field as Hath snorted. The dragon dove back into the lake, swimming along before rising to the surface with much ado and obvious enjoyment. B'ron raised his hand in greeting as he walked, wanting the girl to know that he meant no harm. "Hullo, there!" he called enthusiastically.

Amenth was lounging on the ledge of her weyr when she first felt the pinch of hunger in her stomach. As if immediately aware Ralia was beside ready to leave. Though Ralia had actually been ready for most of the day. The Queen was still sulking and had refused to go out for the flight that morning. The pair would almost always go out in the morning, mostly to escape the Weyr and be able to just be. Nobody could turn up and demand they do anything if they did not know where they were. It was severely frowned upon for the pair to leave and not tell anyone where they ventured to. Something about endangering the Queen, but neither listened. The Queen ate the normal large amount. It was puzzling to Ralia that although Amenth ate more than normal at her age she still remained so slim. She wasn't gorging herself anymore but still... Oddly the Gold was very clean when she ate, as well as picky. This wasn't much of a problem as Remmeck and other firelizards were always happy to eat her scraps. Amenth informed Ralia that she wished to swim before they returned to their weyr. Ralia was happy for the Queen to be out no matter what she was going and was quick to agree. Ralia hopped off when Amenth landed on the shore, the Queen had a preference for walking into the water. Ralia crossed to the rock and sat down just as Remmeck appeared above her head. He landed on Ralia's shoulder and she had to stop him from rubbing his face against hers. "Remmeck your head is coated in blood." The firelizard chirruped inquisitively. "Go and bath for a while." She said pointing to the water. The little bronze jumped off and flew to Amenth who was now in deep enough that she was mostly submerged.

Hath, being a brown dragon, was often listening for any signs of distress from the Queen. Like most other bronzes and browns, the dragon was highly aware of the golds in the Weyr whenever they were around.
However, at this point in time Hath wasn't paying much attention to the activities of others. He was having quite an adventure in the water, scaring away the fish with what he thought to be rather acrobatic feats. Hath was unaware of Amenth entering the water, and was filled with shock as he surfaced and noticed the small bit of the gold that was left above the water. He rumbled a respectful greeting, notifying his rider of the arrival of a Queenrider and her dragon.
I can't come back, Hath. I've already called out a greeting to the girl and I would like to find out who she is. She's probably a Candidate and it'll be good for us to know the future riders and anyway, I think I'll help her out if she needs it. Cleaning manure from the fields is an abominable chore! Give them my greetings and I'll come back when I can.
Hath snorted, the breath from his notrils creating a small wave in the water.
My rider, B'ron, greets you but is busy. I am Hath. Hath said cautiously to Amenth and Ralia both. It was his first meeting with the gold and her rider, and he didn't want to muss things up.

Ralia looked over at the same time as the Queen's head emerged from the water. Amenth returned the greeting. I am Amenth, my rider is Ralia. She was used tothrowing out that plesantry to bronzes and by now it was an instant reaction. Ralia remained seated, it wasn't like the brown was a threat to any of them. That brought to her mind what would happen if a dragon were to endanger a Queen. Everyone was so protective she couldn't help but wonder. Are you wishing harm to me? Amenth said with a rumble that was as close to laughter as the dragon could get to. Ralia smiled at the dragon'sthoughts. The playful moments had become so rare recently as the Queen had become so worrisome. I'd never wish harm on you dear one. She returned as Remmeck bobbed up alongside Amenth. Good. Was the simple reply she recieved as the Gold dove underneath the water again.

Ixiara looked up as the dragonrider began to approach her, but before she could respond the queen dragon arrived. For a moment her attention was drawn in admiration to the golden dragon, she just couldn't help it - something about creatures that were not only big but beautiful commanded attention. But she quickly turned back to the young man walking her way, not wishing to appear rude. She smiled, mostly because the grin on his face was catchy.
"Good morning," she called back, pausing her work momentarily. His hair was an odd shade, she noticed, almost like a very dirty blonde but not quite. Something about the slight spring in his step, smile and overall friendly appearance made the smile on her face into a real one. "Am I in your way, sir? I hope that I did not disrupt your dragon's feeding. I can come back later."

B'ron shook his head fervently. "No, no, no! Hath enjoyed his meal. You were no hindrance at all," he said, his hands unconsciously holding the wet tunic away from his body and wringing it out. "He enjoyed it well enough to dive into the lake and wet me all over," he said as he realized what he was doing.
"I'm B'ron, rider of brown Hath," he continued, using the formal introduction. "I couldn't help but notice the task you've been assigned. I was coming to ask if you needed any assistance, milady." He flamboyantly bowed, laughing as he straightened to look full on into Ixiara's face.
Hath, meanwhile, was toying with the idea of splashing the gold dragon. Perhaps she or her rider would get mad. If Hath could have shrugged he would have as he decided that it was B'ron's problem if the rider disliked Hath's actions. Almost slyly, Hath sunk into the water and then resurfaced suddenly, spreading his wings as he did so. He noticed to his delight that a large arc of water was heading Amenth's way . . .

His laugh was catching, Ixiara noticed. I'm glad to hear that. I'm Ixiara of Telgar Hold, and you needen't do that," she laughed a little as he bowed, feeling slightly awkward about it, "I'm not a Lady by any standards; my family and I take care of herdbeasts." She brushed her hair out of her face, turning and looking at the job, pondering his offer. "Well... as to this..." she laughed just a little, "I imagine that anyone would want help with it. But, sir," She looked back at him, "Aren't you busy? I wouldn't want to take you away from something more important."

B'ron listened to Ixiara's little speech quietly, raising his eyebrows ever so slightly. This was one of those hold girls that had been trained to "know her place", he thought. Either that, or she was humble. Or maybe she just didn't want to deceive him and put on airs. Honesty was a trait B'ron admired greatly, and his hazel eyes flickered with warmth as he answered.
"Ixiara! It is quite nice to meet you," he said. "And, my dear, unless there's something you aren't letting on about below the waist you are most certainly a lady! A lady, after all, does her duty for the best of her hold or Weyr. I don't see you shirking here and it doesn't sound like you shirked there, so I hereby give you the title of Lady Ixiara."
B'ron moved his hands vehemently as he talked, making a grand gesture as he emphasized the word 'lady'. His excitement ebbed, as if the last flourish washed away any excess feeling.
"Now, as for me being busy . . . I most certainly am not!" He grinned. "I shall be honored to help you, though if the Headwoman asks you may tell her that I ordered you to let me help. In fact, to make than an honest remark, I order you to let me help you with this most ornerous chore. So what would you like me to do first?"

Amenth had been looking in Ralia's direction when Hath had emerged from the water. Remmeck was perched on her head and let out a shrill shriek that caused Amenth to turn her head just in time for water to splash in her face. She shook her head to attempt to rid herself off the water, she hadn't really thought the action through and threw Remmeck off without noticing. The little bronze only managed to stop hitting the water by opening his wings at the last moment. He angrily scolded the Queen before blinking between. From the shore Ralia had seen this activity and could not help herself from laughing. She laughed even more when Remmeck scolded the Queen. Amenth whirled her head around to glare at her rider, who now appeared to be in full hysterics. Ralia managed to gain some composure and wave to her dragon. "Well don't just stand there looking shocked! Get him back!" She called at across the water. Amenth looked back to Hath for a moment before spinning around suddenly. She smacked her tail down into the water causing an awfully large splash. She then proceeded to swish her tail back and forth, creating waves that headed straight for Hath.

Feeling slightly embarresed, but pleased all the same. It felt wrong, somehow, to have one of the elite dragonmen saying such things; but at the same time it was a very kind gesture and she appreciated it.
She laughed again when he playfully ordered her to allow him to help. The thought breifly crossed her mind that she had laughed more in the last five minutes than she had in almost a week.
"If you insist, Lord B'ron," she slipped into a mock serious tone, but the corner of her mouth twitched. "I didn't bring a second shovel, so if you wouldn't mind waiting for a moment I'll run and fetch one." Just as her sentence trailed off there was an echoing splash from the lake where the two dragons, brown and gold, were playing. Ixiara glanced over at them and was momentarily shocked by the size of the wave the queen dragon had created.

Hath emitted the draconic sound that could be classified as a laugh. It was sort of a snorting, catching of air in his throat. Quite pleased with his success at splashing the gold (and making the pretty rider laugh) he let his head be far too inflated to notice Amenth's retaliation. By the time he realized that a massive wave and several smaller ones were coming for him it was too late to react.
He tried to spring out of the water, but water can weigh down even the biggest of dragons and he didn't quite make it. The first big wave smacked against his head and face, and several of the smaller ones did as well as Hath struggled to regain his balance and composure.
Gold or not, she certainly wasn't getting away with that! Hath made use of both tail and wings to send water racing the gold's way as he indignantly informed his rider of Amenth's splash.
Well, Hath, you asked for it! Gold dragons are not known to be passive. B'ron said, his entire face curling into a smile as he watched from afar. You made your bed, so lie in it.
Hath, ever literal, responded with a curt, Dragons do not lie in beds!
B'ron was becoming more and more pleased with Ixiara, and himself, as she laughed. She definitely could handle good natured banter, unlike some people he had spoken with. As she watched the dragons he watched her, finding her unobtrusive, wallflowerish appearance appealing. Yes, she had a simple beauty that did not flaunt itself or throw itself in the faces of other people. She also seemed to be a relaxed person, though just as capable of a good laugh as he was.
He let her watch a moment before distracting her. "What? You, running to get another shovel? I think not. I'll go get one," he said, immediately taking off in a sprint so she couldn't protest. Much to his embarrasment he realized he was sprinting in the opposite direction of the supply shack and made a wide U-turn, waving jauntily as he ran past Ixiara.
Returning with a shovel, and perhaps a bit out of breath, he grasped the handle in a firm grip and began to scoop up a pile of stinking heardbeast droppings. He dumped them in the wheelbarrow and continued . .

Ixiara felt the laughter coming and managed to stop herself just in time as B'ron made an ubrupt turn. She bit her lip, then covered her mouth with one hand, but still couldn't help giggling a little. Other than smiling a little when he got back, though, she made no further reference to it. After thanking him she too set herself to the task at hand.
B'ron, she soon found, was not one who did things halfway. Not that she had expected differently, but it was a pleasant discovery nonetheless. As a child she had done her fair share of complaining when it was time to do chores, but she had learned eventually that doing the work and getting it over with was better than leaving it. If you were lucky enough to have someone else who was willing to help it made things better, too.
Ixiara was not one for conversation, but she did her best not to make B'ron feel snubbed: whenever she caught his eye she would smile slightly before getting back to work. Once in a while she stole a glance over the handle of her shovel at what was going on down at the lake as well.

"I must say, whoever assigns these chores has a warped sense of humor," B'ron said after a few minutes of scooping, dropping, scooping, and dropping some more. "When I was a Candidate I think the worst thing I had to do was clean up after the dragons' meals. Sometimes dragons would leave bones or excess, and it was my job every once in a while to gather all of that up and dispose of it. Though, a person has to get used to sights like that to be a dragonrider. Dragons are messy."
He straightened for a minute, looking fondly over at Hath as he remembered the days shortly before and after Impression. Why, without Hath, B'ron's jokes wouldn't have half of their joviality. In fact, B'ron doubted very much that he would joke at all if he was still Buron. Buron had been an entirely different person.
