I am working at the Special Olympics this summer and I need ideas to decorate the horses. We have 3 horses from our ranch that will be there( a roan, a black, and a paint who is manly white).
The theme is retro, so tyedye and peace signs. We also want to paint the horses like last year and we were wondering what paint is easy to get out. The horses dont spook easy so they can wear necklaces that wont touch there feet, and hats.
So do you have any ideas on how to decorate the horses?

For my costume class I am going to be an m&m and my horse will be the m&m package, I will paint a brown sheet to look like an m&m. I don't know if that will be good for your theme though.
Someone I know dressed their palamino as a surfer guy, with the wavy hair, he had some big sunglasses on and she made her saddle look like a surfboard. you could put some tie-dyed boots and a sheet on him to finish the look.
thats all I've got sorry I wasn't too helpful

I think non-toxic fingerpaints are usually good bets for painting horses. You can also get Twinkle body glitter, which I've used before and works great. I don't know what Elissa used on Astaire when she turned him purple...
As for costume ideas... You can see if you can find a costume wig and cut some ear holes in it, giving them long "hippie" hair. A friend of mine did this for a costume class where his horse was Hannah Montana and he was Miley Cyrus (I have strange friends...). You could paste psychedelic daisies on them, give them headbands, bell-bottom pants (Elastic at the top, fitted at the top of the cannons just below the knee/hock and have it bell out over their hooves). Umm... Or you could go roller disco on one of them. Get a bunch of Twinkle and make them really glittery and make cardboard roller skates to attach to their hooves. Maybe give the black one an afro. You can also just paint phrases on their sides, I knew someone that did that. She just put snippets from songs that she liked, dressed as a hippie and went as "The 70s"
Hope that gives you a few ideas? Have fun at the Special Olympics!

Thank you for the ideas! I bought some tye-dye and a sheet and cut it in two, to cover the saddle pads, It looks amazing!
We painted the horses with peace signs and hearts with neon green and pink. The horses also have there mane rubber banded in the diamond braids. And put fake daisys in the rubber bands.
