A story (In most cases, anyway) needs a balance of two things to be considered good: A strong plot, and interesting characters. Everyone likes all of their characters to some degree, but just the same, everyone has a favourite or two.

Who are your favourite characters from your own stories? Why do you like them so much?

I think -- And this is out of every story I've ever written -- that my very favourite character would have to be Spoon, who currently is not in possetion of a last name. She is 16, and attends grade 11 highschool with two of her friends, Kyle (soon to be renamed) and Ophelia. Spoon has many, many quirks, all of which I love, such as how she always carries around the same little ball of pink molding clay, and makes something different with it every day... Or how her moderately sized bedroom appears to be the size of a closet, due to the six-foot bookshelves that line the walls, and the piles of loose paper that cover the floor... And how even though she has a rather nice bed, she perfers to sleep on the floor in a mass of messy blankets and pillows... Ah, Spoon. How I love thee.

So, yeah. Share your characters and why you love them so much! If lots of people post, this should prove to be a fairly interesting thread. If... sweatdrop

I cant choose a character really, they are always all my favorites because they all have that something special that makes good characters interesting, at least to me anyway. But my very favorites are the ones who are trying to explain something without saying it. Ill have to explain more later when I have more time. Ill give you a summarization of some of my characters and why they are my favorites.

I have a dillemna. The thing is that I have characters that I like as equally as each other. Here goes.

Mistral: Mistral is the remnants of her father (a deity of the minds) grief for his mortal wife when she was killed by another god. Thrown into the care of her 'semi-mortal' brother at a young age whe is thrusted into an elven palace as a servant for her first love, the heir to the throne. It was doomed to fail and after she realises this she decides to go to an arid country called Druinnia, not realising that she she is carrying his child.
Upon much travail she manages to go back to the elven capital only to learn that her former lover is now engaged. Leaving the palace, she decides to become a lady-knight of an odd religious order serving the brother of the father that she doesn't know about. Soon she will fall in love and be wed to her second love who dies tragically five years later. This in turns causes her body and mind to split in her grief, becoming two entities that work apart from each other. That is where the really story begins actually.

Carmen: Carmen is a half-elven warrior that rides on a war elephant. This rogue/warrior travels with two childhood friends. Sir Leaksalot is a nobleman's son that is a religious 'empowered' knight of virtue whilst Daymoss is a powerful magician that she squabbles with frequently. During their travels she finds romance in the presence of a prince that they have managed to remove the evil kin of from the throne and her friend Daymoss becomes warped by a powerful evil artifact that is quickly changing him into something monstrous in both mind and body.

Balawn: Balawn is a magician that serves the god of strength. This ladies man was orphanned as a child when the village that his family was passing through was attacked by marauders. He is adopted by a kindly invoker that adopts him soon after. He has fallen in love with a vampire that is on the run from her evil master and he is fighting his way through the lands of the dead to free her from her bondage.

Hmm... all of my characters are all kind of like me. It's been a long time since I wrote any real fiction (the last time I seriously wrote was last summer; I imagine the readers of my fanfiction must be quite fed up by now...), so I don't really like any of my characters... if I may say so myself, I think that I've made quite a lot of improvement in writing. I just learned how to write a proper paper last year (9th grade), and this year, I'd been given the opportunity to be in AP 11 English by my 9th grade English teacher who recommended me to the AP teachers. It's a huge jump from 9th grade, but it's challenging, which makes me enjoy it even more, along with my great classmates and friends in that class.
I'll post up something about my characters when I get time to write new fiction...

I have two. One is named Darian, and the other is named Cemahla.

Darian is a Night Mage; in my stories that means he can use elemental magic, but becomes physically ill if he picks up any object with the intent of using it as a weapon. He's been through a lot in his life. He's trained his magic, of course. Also, he's been accidentally drafted into an army on the wrong side of a war, and unwillingly become involved with a prophecy (no, he's not who it's about. He's there for the ride, though he's not too thrilled).

Cemahla is a Seeker Mage, from the same series. Night Mages and Light Mages are the 'common' types. There are only two Seeker Mages in existence at any point of time. Their sole purpose is to travel from town to town in order to discover future Mages and send them on their way- or deal with the ones who have issues with magic. He, unfortunately, didn't know that he was a Seeker Mage. So when he found out his voice had power (Seeker Mages are also known as the Singer, because that's how they call upon their power), he falls silent. As an amusing aside, his name, when translated on an Al Bhed translator, means "Silence." ^^;

I have others, but I don't feel like posting them right now.

I'd have to say my favorite character would be Kairi, the main character in my current story.

I put a lot of my views into her, but she's still so different from me that it just blows me away how almost all the views are the same but she's still completely different. Compared to her I'm fire and she's ice when it comes to personality wise...if you get that. It made sense in my head.

Mine would have to be my character Lyra. She is such a strong person but she goes through so much. She is loving and loyal, but is accused of betrayal and hate. She is a guardian for an immortal god, but they fall in love. yes, yes, the classic cliche, but they are pulled apart by their own devices. I just love Lyra to death. She ends up having four children and help destory the realm from where evil spawns.

I am currently working on this story, which happens to be a trilogy, and hope to have the first book completed by the end of the summer.

My favorite character of my own making is a boy named Atticus Crow, who is currently 17, but reaches the age of 20 by the end of the book. He pretty hansome, and has an odd tendency to over indulge himself in books, writings (like me)day dreaming, maps, and above all else, combat. He's very nice though. smile He's my hero! Well...my main character's hero. He reminds me somewhat of the Phantom in the movie the Phantom of the Opera...they look the same, and have that sort of badboy look with the good personality. However, the Phantom wasn't really ideal in his personality, but that wasn't his fault...i'm gong to leave before I keep up this rant. biggrin
