Yes, magic is a fantasy, but it is real. You see, to many its a fantasy. To others, saying you don't believe is like breaking your heart. So, to answer your question, yes, it is, but isn't.

I think if your in this guild, you either enjoy magic, or believe in it. So this question really isnt necissary.

Eh... you people seem to be mis-lead on the type of magic concerned. Being a practising Witch (Yes, Witch. It's a Unisex title) I know a bit about magic, what it is, and how we can make it work.
So, first off:
Magic is an energy. It's natural, and is apart of the universe, the earth and every living thing. It can be tapped into, manipulated and used. It works within the laws of physics, (so no, you can't make fireballs or chuck ice bolts at people. If we had that kind of mental capacity, our heads would explode. Think about it...).
Secondly:
How do you make magic work? Well, you just need good visualization techniques and skills. Here's an example:
My friend's in severe depression. They're having self love issues and keep hinting at suicide. What do I do? We've tried all the mundane solutions, and they haven't worked. So, I turn to the magical side of things with hope that it can help. So, I decide I'll do the spell on the full moon, when positive spells are enhanced and the Sun and Moon are in balance, causing the magical energy to be more stronger.
So, (I do magic in a Wiccan way. So that means casting a circle, calling the quarters etc).
When I have cast my circle, invoked the Goddess and God, I start the spell. I light Vanilla incense for self love and happiness. And rose for love and purity. I sit, taking in the scents to make a certain mood on my senses. I close my eyes, and see in my mind my friend becoming better gradually over time. I build up the energy of the spell, until I have to release it into the incense smoke. I let the smoke drift out into the World, to my friend, carrying the spell and the process. It is done. I let the spell run its course and have pure faith it will work.
Then I would recommend they get a piece of cleansed and charged rose quartz for extra self-love energy.
That's an example on spell casting.
Magic, generally, is using natural energy to cause needed or desired changes and effects.
Psychic skills are also apart of Magic, such as: Astral travel, Clairvoyance, Premonitions, Visualization and so on.
Types of magic:
Crystal magic - The use of rocks, stones and precious minerals which project energy into the body, doing specific things and causing positive changes on the body, mind, spirit and emotions.
Divination - The use of tools or the mind to determine hidden or unseen messages. Divining the future or events.
They're just two examples.
Witchcraft is an ancient practice. No, it's not Satanic, evil or bad. It's not what you use, it's how you use it.
Plus, whatever you send out, emotionally, mentally, physically, magically, you get back times three. (Karma, The Threefold Law etc. Call it what you will). So, why would you send out negative things if you're going to get them back? It's like digging your own grave. So, most Witches tend to go with "Love and Light" than "Hate and disaster".
Hope this educates some of you and makes some sense
If you can actually make fireballs, okay. I semi-believe you. Since I have belief "abilities" exist. But to a minor extent. You'll never be the human torch...

As Azareas Aquarinus said. Magic is real, and natural. Its not like the magic you see in movies and video-games.

Not in the sense that you shoot fire balls from your hand.

Personally, I believe that magic is science (you tired of all these confusing opinions yet? Maybe this will make sence) First of all, you have to understand what magic is. It is, by it's own nature, a phenomenon that occurs that cannot be logically explained, or if it CAN be explained, it cannot be proved. But just because something hasn't been proved, or it isn't logical, definately does not mean it isn't real. Magic most definately is. Ask anyone in this guild (well, okay, I guess you did do that XD). Instead of being unreal though, like most people would like to believe, think of it as unexplained science. Did you know that scientists still don't know why lightning happens? But can you deny that it does occur? No. It is definately real. Then comes the matter of people useing magic, aka, the sixth sense. Everyone has it. It is just about as extraordinary as any of your other senses, the difference is it is far more discreet, so not everyone pays attention to it. This is what makes up psychics and other people who claim to have a sixth sense (more than others). So a certain amount of people can detect it. A smaller number of them can actually manipulate it. It's like useing a microwave. I'd bet you don't have any clue how they work. Niether do I. Yet, lots of people use them on a daily basis. Magic users don't know everything about magic either (no arguments please! Just because you know more than most you do not know EVERYTHING there is to know) So basically, that's my theory on magic. If you would like another long, boring explaintion on something, ask me about plants that have emotions ^_^ (yes, I am serious.) Oh! You could ask about auras too! Those are always fun!
And you! Mr. Azareas Aquarinus! Why did you stop in that vampire RP? TT.TT

I've done auric viewing on myself. I'm always Indego.
I believe in magick as a real force, and that there are many forms and means by which to manipulate it. I also believe that magick is neither good nor evil, it's how one chooses to use it.
I've used auric, pranic, and chakric powers in tandem to heal myself and sooth pains.
Sorry if I got some of the terms wrong. I'm used to referring to traits by my own terminology.

As others have addressed before me: Movie and fantasy magic is mostly not real. Unless you take the few books that talk about chakra or auras in a serious manner in a fantasy or fiction setting.
My first encounter with magic was when I started meditating back when I was... oh let's see, I would have been about 17 or 18. My cousin turned me onto meditation as a means to control ones self energy. I started with simple things, gathering energy in my hands by means of focus. It was winter time so it came in handy, I could basically keep my hands around 80-90 degrees even when I was in sub-zero temperatures with no gloves on.
My second encounter with magic was also from meditation but it was an entirely different field. I laid down, originally trying to control my dreams, but all I did was keep my mind awake and let my body fall asleep. Kinda messed up the whole dream control thing. But what I learned was that after a short amount of time my body started to feel numb and then all the sudden I was moving without my body moving. I had an out of body experience, I left my house, half flew, half ran to my friend's house where I had a conversation with him. At first all he said he could feel was my aura or my energy. He basically said, "It felt like you were there, without actually being there." I was trying to talk to him and he wasn't responding and I realized I wasn't actually talking. So I picked up a pen and started writing. Needless to say the floating pen scared the s**t out of him. Then I talked to him about what I was feeling, and what I'd done. I sat there with him and we looked up astral projections and out of body experiences, trying to figure out what I'd done. Then after like three hours of being there I went back to my body. My body felt like I'd run ten miles (approximately the distance between my house and his if I went there and back) but I hadn't moved a muscle. My parents had even tried to "wake me up" though they said I looked catatonic, I had a pulse and my eyes were wide open. I've since done similar things twice.
So, magic in terms of energy control and soul control exists in my life. As the common example of less than real magic, fireballs do not. Although I have found out that if you concentrate your 'chakra' into your hands you can cause varying sensations to someone without actually touching them. My cousin has a sort of electrical chakra I'd guess, when he concentrates his energy he can make my hairs stand on end with like a static electricity sort of deal. He was grounded, wearing rubber shoes and touching metal and it still worked. I have a sort of warm energy, I seem to cause people to feel like they're next to a fireplace. Pretty cool.
