Okay, so this is a tutorial for Cats. Now your Cat is very handy. This is for getting onto those obstacles too high for you to jump onto or just run up. A Cat is where you jump from one somewhat high spot to an adjacent wall, grab onto the ledge and pull yourself up. Unlike most parkour techniques, this requires a serious amount of upper body strength so if you can't do it, just start doing some pushups and pullups.
Now, many people make a mistake on their Cat, mainly when they try and Top Out, or pull themselves over. They usually have to brace their forearms or their arms on the top of the ledge and crawl up it, which is very innefficient and not very fluid. Here's a few tips to keep in mind.
First off all, when you grab your feet should hit, followed almost immediately by your hands. If your feet hit first and you don't grab in time, you'll fall, if your hands hit first, you'll find yourself lying flat against the wall, dangling there and it'll make pulling yourself up more difficult.
You should be in a curl, with your feet raised in front of you, placed firmly against the wall. By being in this curl, it allows you to extend your legs up and push your body above the ledge.
DO NOT FACE YOUR ELBOWS TO THE SIDES OR AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. You'll find yourself crawling up again. Your hands should be facing straight away in front of you, with your elbows by your side. As you push up, remember to lean your body over the wall. This will keep you from falling back. Don't lean backwards!
Finally, as your body is almost completely over the obstacle, with arms fully extended up, pull your legs up over the edge and you should have just completed your Cat. Here's a video tutorial.
