I was interested to know something, and wanted to ask everyone's opinion.
Dark Link; his origins. Where does he come from, how was he brought into existence?
It's never actually explained in any of the Zelda games, so I was wondering what you guys had to say on the matter.
What do you believe to be Dark Link's beginnings?

I believe that everyone has some evil and since Link was a pure soul, that evil had to go somewhere. I guess the evil took the form of a Hyrulean.

There are actually lots of theories as to Dark Link's beginning. Not knowing his origins kinda add to his mystery.
One of the theories is that Dark Link was created by Ganondorf himself or created when evil poisoned the Water Temple.
Another theory is that Dark Link was created by the goddesses as a final test.
Considering the order of the (supposed) order of the games, I think that Dark Link was created due to the evil magic that poisoned the Water Temple. But, I think that it wasn't meant to be Dark Link at the time. I think that the Crystal Oasis within the Water Temple would have created the dark reflection of any hero that came through it. Link just happened to be the hero.
Then, later, the goddesses decide to make him the final test for the triforce of courage.
Course, that's just what I think.

My theory is that he's Link's Termian counterpart. Since Link himself is a warrior of good, and vanguisher of evil, Dark Link is the embodiment of darkness of the two, so there's a balance between them. I don't really think that has to do with any of the games, but when you play Majora's Mask, you notice many similarities between the character's used in that game, and in Ocarina of time.
Any other thoughts guys?

Well, Termina is a parallel world of Hyrule so, not only are there similarities between characters. The Terminans are literally the Hylians' counterparts.
Malon = Cremia/Romani
The Cucco Lady = Anju
The Running Man = The Postman
Nabooru's 2nd-In-Command = Aveil
and so on...
But, I don't believe he's Link's Termina counterpart. For one...not everyone in Hyrule had a Termina counterpart (that we know of, at least). Fado, Mido, Impa...
Just like not every Terminan had a Hylian counterpart. Kafei, Pamela, The Rosa Sisters...
Plus, if you notice, Link was able to go into both worlds just like the Happy Mask Man. And, if Dark Link was Link's counterpart in Termina, he'd look just like Link, not a Dark Link...but Link.

Alright I see what you’re saying.
But hypothetically, if Termina was an alternate form of Hyrule, and every living body in Hyrule had a Termian couterpart, then wouldn’t Link’s counterpart be able to travel through both worlds also? And, on a separate note, regarding that he would look more like Link, and not Dark Link, that can be explained by Link’s heroics in Hyrule. If they were opposite sides of a coin, in a sense, then there would have to be some sort of balance of good and evil between them. Since Link’s purity is so high, and his heroics know no bounds, then Dark Link would have to act upon the opposite instincts for there to be that natural balance.
Link’s darkness is so great, that his counterpart is only able to take the shape of him, as seen in Legend of Zelda II: The Adventures of Link and Ocarina of time.

Like I said in my previous post, not every body in Hyrule had a Terminan counterpart. The Kokiris, for many, do not have one. The girl chasing after the cucoo in the Marketplace. Impa, Zelda... I'm not saying that Link didn't have a Terminan counterpart, I'm saying his counterpart is not Dark Link. I'm also saying that not everyone can traverse both worlds. No one knows how the Happy Mask Salesman can do it. The Skullkid was able to do it with the help of Majora's Mask. Link, because he's chasing after the Skullkid. You said that Dark Link is Link's Terminan counterpart. And I said that, if Link has a counterpart in Termina, it would not be Dark Link. Parallel World does not mean opposites, after all. It seems that you're saying because "he's a counterpart", it automatically makes them "opposites" which is not true at all. If that were, then it means that, since Malon is good, then Romani and Cremia are evil. Or since Anju is good, then the Cucco Lady is evil. Again, I don't know what this has to do with Dark Link being Link's counterpart in Termina. Going with the timeline of the games themselves (not game story, mind you), Dark Link started out as Shadow Link meaning that he's meant to be Link's shadow. He wasn't really meant to take form other than Link's shadow. He IS Link's shadow. That's one of the reasons why he can only take that shape. Also, I'm a little confused when you say "Link's darkness". You just finished saying that Link is very pure and his courage knows no bounds, then you say his darkness is so great. Good discussion, we haven't had one of these in a while. Sure wish the others would log on though to get their thoughts.
