Okay, I feel you can get a lot of information about God from fantasy books. Yes, I said fantasy.
Many Christians believe the genre is taboo or something. However, when a good fantasy author creates a different world, and a different culture, they have to have SOME beliefs in that world/culture.
Here are some pretty good fantasy authors who managed to help me in my Walk with God:
Piers Anthony (Incarnations of Immortality)
Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth)
Piers Anthony helped me when I read about his view of Satan. It was very accurate. Not only on his mannerism and appearance, but Piers Anthony's main view of him. Satan is portreyed as the father of lies, the prince of evil. My favorite part in the series is when Satan is first described in On a Pale Horse. Zane meets Satan for the first time and thinks that he should see some monster spitting out threats, when, in fact, he's dressed like a business man and very handsome. In each book of the series, the new incarnation has to fight Satan.
Terry Goodkind: Yes, he's an atheist, but his series contains a lot of religion in the culture. Such as, the Sisters of the Light (nuns, no doubt) and the Creator (obviously a representation of God) and the Keeper (Clearly supposed to show Satan).
