Adding/Subtracting Fractions
The easiest case with adding/subtracting fractions occurs when the denominators for both fractions are equal. In that case, simply add/subtract the numerators as if they were by themselves and keep the denominator the same for the answer.
Ex: 3/7 + 2/7 = 5/7
When the two fractions have different denominators, you have to change one or both of the fractions so that they do have the same denominator.
Ex: 1/4 + 5/12 = 3/12 + 5/12 Ex2: 3/11 + 1/2 = 6/22 + 11/22
After that, you can add them like you would normally.
Multiplying Fractions
To multiply two fractions, simply multiply the two numerators to get the answer's numerator and multiply the two denominators to get the answer's denominator.
Ex: 5/7 * 2/3 = 10/21
Dividing Fractions
There is a trick to dividing two fractions. Take the second fraction and change it to its reciprocal (numerator and denominator change places). Then, multiply those two fractions together. The answer will be your quotient.
Ex: (6/7) / (1/3) = 6/7 * 3/1 = 18/7 = 2 4/7
