solving a problem can either be done by some higher, all powerful being, or you can try to figure things out yourself. Both have a reward - a sense of relief, of overcoming the problem, and not having worry.

But if you solve a problem on your own, if you figure it out for yourself, there's not only a sensation of relief, but also a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of merit that no one can take away.

It's like the difference between tracing and sketching.

Photocopies are perfect duplicates with no merit,
tracing is a near perfect duplicate with minor merit,
copying another sketch by sight is still more rewarding,
rendering a 2d sketch from a 3d source has greater merit,
but rendering a sketch from something purely imagined is the most difficult.

In difficulty, we find merit, but also in originality. The root of originality isn't in whether it's old or new, but whether it came from - it's origin, is YOU.
