Matayoshi Kobudo is an Okinawan weapons system, the weapons it uses were evolved from farming tools and otherwise inconspicuous items for the region and time period.
What seems to be the biggest difference between Matayoshi Kobudo and other weapon styles, is that when using the bo, you hit your bicep when pulling one side back, instead of tucking the returning or rear side under your arm and getting taking the force of the return in the ribs. (Makes a lot more sense to me ^_^)
Any way, Matayoshi Kobudo-ka meet here, discuss. Anyone else, come and ask questions as they arise.

As Sanguinette sensei says, don't differentiate your karate from your kobudo, apply the same principles, and view the weapon as an extension of your body. Granted learning to hold and properly change weapons positions is pretty difficult, but after a handful of classes, most people get it. And the katas, if you had trouble learning the karate katas (does jiu jistu have katas?) then of course you'll have some problems learning weapons katas, but i'll come to you just as the others did. Just don't try to rush into kata before getting hand positioning and placement right, that would be like trying to do kata before knowing proper stances and what not.

I know I can do it I just dont know If I could balance 3 diff martial arts at once and still learn at a decent pace...The Jits classes I take we dont have katas...Money is also a problem It sounds more expensive...Do you have to buy any of the traditional weapons?

Wow that sounds really fun...Is there any sort of ranking system? officially yes, but my sensei is very rebellious when it comes to the way kobudo is run in our organization (you have to go to san diego to test) so he more or less just teaches us informally and lets us use new weapons when he believes we're ready, but for any formal kobudo event, we are not to use any weapon above our rank (for me that means i'm stuck to sai and bo)
