A little bit about the series: Cirque Du Freak is written by Darren Shan and the main character happens to be Darren Shan. So in a way the author is actually trying to make the reader believe that it's like a biography. The entire series is about him and his adventures as a half-vampire. Darren and his mentor, Larten Crepsley, go on many adventures and Darren learns about the ways of the vampires during their travels. (I will not give any spoilers!) The series has been made into manga form though I HIGHLY not recommend it for those that have not read, or finished reading, the series! The manga does NOT follow the actual book and it's not as interesting as the actual book! Cirque Du Freak is also being made into a movie. The movie will be over the first three books and the release date for theaters is January 15th, 2010. So please read at least the first three books before then if you plan on seeing the movie so this way you know how everything is SUPPOSED to happen.

History: When she was three her parents were killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver so she and her older brother had to live with their aunt and uncle whom lived in England. When she was ten she found out that there was a freak show called Cirque Du Freak coming to her town. She managed to get money for tickets for her and at least one other friend and they saw the show Saturday night. When Mr. Crepsley and his assistant Darren Shan got on stage with the performing spider Madam Octa, Amaya was instantly mesmerized by the pair. She couldn't help but think that they were more than just people in the freak show, she thought long and hard and realized that she saw a picture (to be more precise a painting) or Vur Horston who was actually Larten Crepsley! Amaya was very interested in vampires at the time and wanted to become one. After the show Amaya let her friend lead the way so she could sneak away and find Larten and Darren. About 30 minutes after everyone left Amaya found Darren standing alone by the entrance to the auditorium. She asked him to turn her into a vampire but he said he'd have to bring it by Mr. Crepsley. After they debated Larten agreed to blood Amaya and let her be his assistant. Though she'd have to go through some very difficult situations so she could leave with Darren and Larten. Amaya didn't mind since her home life with her relatives and brother weren't that great. Once everything was said and done Amaya left with Mr. Crepsley, Darren, and the rest of the cirque on an adventure that would change her life forever. When Amaya turned fifteen (in vampire years) she demanded that Larten make her a full vampire, at first Larten didn't agree because she was too young and inexperienced but Amaya insisted and she became a full vampire. When she turned twenty (in vampire years) she went through the Trials of Initiation to become a General, she managed to get through every trial with only a few broken bones and surprisingly a high fever. She now serves as a Vampire General to the Princes and travels the world with the Cirque Du Freak as her second home.
