It's true, more or less. Most people enjoy classic literature, such as the works of Jules Verne, H.G.Well, Mark Twain, and so on.

So I ask you, my friends: What classic stories and/or authors do you enjoy? Furthermore, what is your favorite genre of literature?

I highly enjoy the works of H.G. Wells. The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine are my absolute favorites of his work. As you might already have picked up, I love Science Fiction.

I have an extreme desire to read some H.P Lovecraft, but I can never seem to find a book store or library that carries anything of his. Horror and suspense are also among my favorite genres.

Edit: Thanks to xCalyptrax, I feel compelled to make a list of some of my favorite books. These are merely off the top of my head.

Alice in Wonderland
Farenheight 451
1984
The War of the Worlds
The Time Machine
The Monkey's Paw(more of a short story)
Anything by Edgar Allen Poe
The Giver
The Hobbit
Gulliver's Travels
Beowulf
The Last Unicorn
The Importance of being Earnest

I like The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, anything by Edgar Allen Poe, Alice In Wonderland, anything by Shakespeare, White Fang, Canterbury Tales, Fahrenheit 451, Metamorphosis, 1984, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc. I'm a huge Lit. freak. lol
I tend to like fantasy books more, but any book that gets me interested in something, whether it be the characters or the government I'm living under, is good.

I've heard great things about Lovecraft, but I've never read anything from him.

Thank you for naming off a bevy of books that I completely forgot to mention, as well as sparking my memory of other books that I love. Perhaps I should simply make a list.

I could never get into anything by Shakespear

Welcome.
Like I said, lit. freak.
That'd work.

Was it because of the way he wrote?

Yes. His style irked me too much to be able to enjoy his stories and plays.

Haha, that's understandable.
