You see, over the ages humanity has fought for power because of what they think is right. The thing is, in my opinion, there is no right or wrong. only the truth, and what and how people view the situation. what do you think, do you agree, disagree, or just have a thought about it, post and be elaboerate (detailed)

Oh, yes. This is an incredibly controversial subject.

You see, people develop ideals based on their cultures, religions, or hierarchies. Since these differ so greatly between warring countries, there can be a cultural bias that builds up. This, in turn, differentiates the cultures further and causes more conflict.

But when two peoples are warring and they have different ideals, it makes it that much harder to resolve the conflict. One might think it's their obligation to destroy or conquer the other. It's these kind of ideals that create war itself.

The bottom line is that since people are people, and cultures make differences, there will never be one way to look at one situation. They will all have their own opinions based on their own experiences or culture. Nothing can ever change that, and if you want to change that, that's just part of another opinion.

Look up Utilitarianism. Their slogan gives a good idea of what's right.

1.) Do you think there is any chance at all that God exists? (or, to phrase it differently, can you Prove beyond doubt that He does not?

2.) If the answer to #1 is No, then you must agree that your theory--that there is no right or wrong--may itself be wrong. That is, there may be an objective Right and Wrong that everyone is held accountable to.

3.) I am not sure what you mean by "only the truth." Do you think it is possible for a statement like "The Highest Good is Happiness" to be true? If so, then you are open to the possiblility that right and wrong do exist.

4.) What I am saying, by the way, has nothing to do with how people view and are swayed by the situation. I do agree that culture, genetics, random variables do influence what people see as right and wrong. All I am saying is that it is possible that Right and Wrong do exist.

5.) So, do you agree that it is possible that Right and Wrong do exist? (as opposed to there being no morality, no Right or Wrong, no Good whatsoever.)

I think that right and wrong are all part of perception. (I don't think anything can be either right or wrong except in people's own points of view.)

Jerba:

You think, but you are open to the possiblity of being wrong, right? (I notice you said "I think" instead of "I believe")

"I don't think anything can be either right or wrong except in people's own points of view." -I am not exactly sure what you mean. Do you mean:

a.) There is no right or wrong; people just think there is as a result of culture, evolution, lies, superegos, etc.

b.) There is a right or wrong, (so religion still could be true) but it is subjective, as in there are no Ten Commandments that everyone has to follow but rather individual, personalized codes that we each have to discover?

c.) There is right and wrong, and it does apply universally to all human beings, but it stems from our nature (our perceptions) and therefore is not inherent in the acts themselves, the objects themselves, but in our decisions to act?

d.) Other (please explain more?)

...

One last thing: How do you make choices? Because surely you realize that whenever you make a choice, you are valuing one thing or outcome over another, saying that one thing is "better" than another? So, what things/outcomes do you value?
