Ok...so I don't know about you guys but health class is where i got all of my incorrect facts about diseases.....
EXAMPLE A:
My teacher claims that HIV can be transferred through casual contact, and saliva, and has a 5% mortallity rate when the disease progresses to AIDS
EXAMPLE B:
My teacher swears that anti-depressents are for muscle problems....this was just pathetic....
EXAMPLE C:
My teacher also claims that viruses are curable stare

You can tell my school is poor.....

The things about HIV are definitely incorrect. Maybe your teacher meant that anti-depressants are sometimes used to treat fibromyalgia. I have been prescribed anti-depressants for fibromyalgia. I never took them because after reading the side effects, I realized it just isn't worth it for me.

A very small degree of hope

Though I've never heard those before, I know what you mean. My high school taught all the misconceptions about people going through seizures, like "having to hold the person's tongue because they might swallow it" -_-

I think health class depends on where/when you took it. And although your teach was wrong on several points (maybe she used Wikipedia) I generally find health class to be beneficial in many more ways.

I am only basing this though, in my college health program which was abasic nursing one. I didn't get highschool health because it was bundled with phys-ed class which I couldn't take.

Its because of people like your teacher that the world gets so stupid.

For exapmle, someone actually asked me the other day what Autumn meant.

I'm actually given anti-depresants for insomnia. If that was my teacher I would so shove that in his face.
