Plot:
Quote:
A mysterious force called T-Energy is the source of all life and magic in Ancaria. It was originally solely under the control of the ancient race of Seraphim, however over time as they lost interest in the world they gave some of their control to the High Elves. With this power, the High Elves quickly became the dominant race of Ancaria.
A power struggle is raging between two factions within the High Elves. The nobility and clergy are each trying to gain control over the T-Energy. Other races take advantage of the distraction the conflict provides and try to gain control of the T-Energy themselves, so they can become the dominant and most powerful race. As these events unfold, the T-Energy goes increasingly out of control and changes into a destructive force. A force that mutates creatures, destroys cities, and renders entire regions uninhabitable.

Gameplay:
There are....I believe 5 difficulty levels to set before you start your game. "Bronze" being the easiest.
Characters- There are 6 races you can choose from....
* Seraphim: embodies all that is good, therefore she can only play the Light path.
Obvious Physical Feature- Their eyes are white surrounded by black tattoos and their "wings."
* Shadow Warrior: An elite warrior, returned to life against his will after his death on the battlefield.
Obvious Physical Feature- Glowing eyes.
* High Elf: A student of magic, freshly emerged from the academy ready to explore the world and expand her knowledge.
Obvious Physical Feature- Pointy ears...and I believe taller than most peasants.
* Dryad: Adept at ranged combat, nature magic and voodoo.
Obvious Physical Feature- Dark skin and I think she's shorter compared to the other characters you can be.
* Temple Guardian: Cyborg canine creature - adept at the mechanical and technological arts.
Obvious Physical Feature- His 'canine' feature....head of a jackal.
* Inquisitor: He embodies all that is evil, therefore can only play the Shadow path.
Obvious Physical Feature: Evil eyes.....likes to wear robes.
Each race is gender fixed and only the females allow you a choice between two hair styles (wow.... rolleyes ) as well as a larger variety of hair colors....not that it does much good if your character wears a helmet that covers it. At least you can mix and match your armor....
You also choose which god your character follows. Each god bestows a special divine gift. I personally like the god of nature or technology because they can heal not only yourself, but any companions you may have picked up on the way. One god I do not recommend is the chaos goddess....she allows you to summon a demon, but the demon turns on you after wards.....
Campaigns-A player can choose between two. Light being you fight for good and Shadow being you fight for evil. Along with the campaign there are many side quests to take part in as well as a certain quest that is specific to race. The game is nice to color code them on the map.
*Gold: Campaign
*Blue: Race Specific Quest
*White: Side Quests
-Something about side quests.....some involve escorting one or more people to safety or helping a soldier rescue someone. If they die-you fail. However a couple of them I noticed don't take damage at all. So I chose not to complete their quests....at least not yet and keep them around to help me in battles. ((So far I have an elven archer and a wizard)) They may not always prove useful, but they can distract enemies and cause a little damage.
Moving: The land of Ancaria if vast...luckily there are a few different ways to get around.
Walking/Running-Don't think I need to explain this...
Mounts: There are a couple types of mounts to choose from in Ancaria....
Horses-There are a few types to choose from....each with their own special bonuses. Down side is you can't use your special combat moves while mounted and some horses take up space in your attack slots with their not so great moves....
Special Mounts-Each race has a mount that is unique to them, but first you have to take part in the "Unique Mounts" side quest.
* Seraphim: Saber-toothed Tiger
* Shadow Warrior: Hellhound
* High Elf: Wind Serpent
* Dryad: Giant Lizard
* Temple Guardian: Mobiculum
* Inquisitor: Giant Spider
Teleports-These will be your friends....and you will be glad for them. They are normally located around towns and cities ((but not at everyone-mind you))
Obelisks-Only one can be active at a time. Activating one saves the game and will act like a teleport to that specific spot until you activate one elsewhere.
Purchase: There are a few places to make purchases...
*Merchant-Potions, Armor, Weapons, etc....
*Blacksmith-Armor, Weapons....but he can also merge items you collect from your journey into you armor or weapons.
*Horse Master-((I don't think that's what they're called but...)) Purchase Horses
*Magician-((Again...not what he's called but every time I see one they're playing with lightning of something....)) This guy can take relics you've collected (up to four) and turn it into one better one relic. Also helps clear up space in your inventory.
Battle System- Pretty straight forward....go around and kill things, take up quests.....Careful with the camera though-you can get dizzy depending on the area.
Rate: 7/10
Bad-Character creation could have been so much better....
The game isn't really action packed and there aren't any cut scenes except for one I've found from a side quest. It was a rock concert the developers must have done for the group who performed the games theme song.
If you play on a PS3...make sure to play on a good sized TV so you can read the type more easily.
Good-Some graphic problems but the overall land scape it lovely.
If you don't mind the easy going pace you're in for hours and hours of play. Almost 600 quests to take part in....and the world is a huge place to explore.
Amusing-You can kill ghosts. At least I found that amusing. Although during the shadow campaign I felt bad that I had to kill a child ghost while in the light campaign I had helped the kid.
Final Word:
I don't regret buying it. I have found myself losing track of time several times since I bought the game. However if I chose to stop playing its the type of game that is easy to pick back up. And if you do forget anything from your last adventure the game provides a log book of all your quests ((even separates them into chapters)).
So far I three characters....
Seraphim & Dyrad for the Light
High Elf for the Shadow
I also plan to make a Temple Guardian just so I can name him Anubis. lol
