User Image It seemed as though the day was one she would never forget, if she had counted the days correctly the reason for her semi depression was that this was the anniversary of her past mates destruction. It was only when the crashing of a waterfall sounded nearby that she realized that she had wandered far too long, and was far from where she had camped the pervious night. Aeryn had no idea where to go, for now she had to make the best of her situation. She decided it would be best to see the waterfall, for she had never observed one before, secretly praying that no other wolves were near by.

The female watched as the crashing waters made way unto a pool of calm looking waves. Aeryn lowered her body and put a paw in the water, curious about whether or not it would be as cold as it looked. She stared at the pool for a bit, just remembering everything that she went though, and how the hunters blood looked in the still water of a creek by her old home. She had lost it that day, but it seemed she never wanted to fall there again, Aeryn never fought since that night, even if it meant she had to always move in fear of invading other packs territories.

User ImageHe was watching one of the pups he looked after from the shadows near the waterfall. Apparently, this little girl was teaching another pup how to fish. A smile broke across his muzzle at the sight. Family was something he didn't have, that he could remember. But that was alright. He'd find his family one day, he knew. Or make his own, hopefully both. Backus was lonely because he knew Dru had wandered away. He thought he'd have settled down with the pretty wolfess, but that didn't happen. She was gone by the next morning. Leaving him slightly depressed.

Honestly, the male couldn't say he loved the female. They'd just met that one time. But he did count her as a friend. And now he had none. Turning his head away, he moved closer to the waterfall and blinked. A female looking into the pool, seemingly depressed. This had happened with Dru. Only they'd met in the dead of night.

He made a low greeting noise so he wouldn't scare her as he moved closer, two colored eyes examining her. She seemed like she'd been on the move for a while. "Are you alright?" He called quietly, moving slowly in case she showed any signs of aggression. Of course Backus knew that sometimes females could be very unforgiving when they were upset and depressed like this. It wouldn't be the first time he'd have caught a female on a bad day.

Aeryn heard a noise behind her and lifted her head to observe a male coming toward her slowly. She immediately stood and shifted from foot to foot, debating whether or not to run. Quietly she stood her ground and allowed him to come to her. She was unsure as to why the male would come to her, and completely out of the blue to note, the female pulled herself from her daydream to answer the others question. Aeryn may have been depressed, and moody, but she was never rude.

“I am… well honestly, just trying to forget things that were from long ago and insignificant in the time being.”
The girl looked up for the first time and met his mismatched eyes with her own amber; it was almost an arrogant challenging look. She more than likely would not respond if he asked her what it was she was trying to forget, hell it was a miracle the girl had told him what she did. She pondered to herself what was wrong with her, for she had told herself long ago that those whom asked questions and showed too much interest were only looking for a soft spot to harm you with.

"I see.... the river often makes people remember things they do not want to. Perhaps if you were to have stopped by a tree or something other than this river, you wouldn't have remembered," he said softly. He sat down a good talking distance from her, but still gave her her room. Yes, Backus saw the look in those amber eyes and his ears went down, showing he wasn't up for any kind of challenge right now. Nor was he going to ask her what it is she was trying to forget. That was something for her to share if she wished, not something he'd question about.

"That is, unless, this is a specific day you wish to not remember. Then it is hard no matter where you are not to. .......Honestly... I can not say I can sympathize with you. I've no memories that I'd want to forget.." No, he had memories he wanted to recall no matter how horrible they were. "But I can empathize." He looked the female over, head tilting this way and that, making sure she wasn't going to attack. If she bolted, that would be alright, he wouldn't go after her. That wasn't the type of male Backus was.

Aeryn watched the blue colored male quietly, not really sure of how to respond; but sensing that there was more to his story that he was not letting on to. She figured he was not going to hurt her, so she lowered herself once more ignoring the parts of her brain that were telling her to run away. Something was odd about this day, for she seemed to be doing much out of character. The female was still nervous but still not as afraid as she had been. The male that seemed keen on accompanying her from what she could observe was doing very much the same thing she was. She looked back at the pool of water, watching their reflections in it, sighing quietly to herself.

“We all have memories we wish to forget, I would give anything for a blank slate. It would give one an advantage over those that are haunted by memories.” Aeryn looked back up from the water to look at the male, she was honestly curious, but she was not one that would prod at a subject that could be something that would hurt another. Honestly she was surprised she remembered how to speak at all, it had been so long since she had a decent conversation with one that was able to understand her language. She had to admit to herself if she had come by a wolf talking to a tree she would not wish to speak to them either… not to mention that she was avoiding most social things. Aeryn was somewhat disgusted with herself and her past. She would give almost anything to forget it.

"No miss. You do not want a blank slate," Backus said seriously, an edge to his voice. He moved to stand up, ears raising. "I had that opportunity ..I have -no- past memories. I don't know who I really am. I don't know if I have family.... You do not want that." He looked pained, almost angry she even suggested it. "I would give anything for a memory of my past, even if it was a bad one...."

That last sentence was said in a low, harsh whisper, head head hanging low, settling back down, tail curled between his leg. He looked like he'd just been kicked hard or talked down too. He had no right to snap at the female like that.

Those eyes looked up at her again and he whimpered softly. "I apologize..." He said quietly, looking back down.

Aeryn hardly moved when she was growled at, she merely watched the other, prepared to get up and leave. It was when he apologized to her that she found herself caught off guard.
“You have no right to be sorry to me. I need no one’s sympathy.” She stared fiercely into the water, feeling awkward; the last time she was apologized to was when her mother found her bloodied and howling by her dead mate. I’m sorry had become more of a soft spot than even speaking of his death. She hit at her reflection in the pool and closed her eyes.

Sighing inwardly and stood, walking over to the other and sitting closer, but not close enough to touch.
“It seems to me that if you feel that strongly about your memories, then you should make plenty more to remember. Sometimes all it takes is to make peace with your past and when you cease to search will you find what you are searching for.” She allowed herself to cautiously glance up at the other, willing him not to take offence with submissive gestures. Her awkwardness only grew and if she could she would have blushed.
“I’m sorry. It’s none of my business.”

"I've.... been trying to make new memories," Backus said with a long, hard sigh, eyes squeezing shut as he laid down, head resting on his paws. He didn't care how submissive she was acting. His spirits were down now, the moment of happiness he had was gone as quick as the female companion of his had been. Looking off to the side, Backus frowned gently and spoke again.

"I woke up... only knowing my name. Before I knew it, I saved a female from humans and their non-wolves. Thus some of my injuries that are faint. Scars from their claws. From then, I met a female.... we clicked, just right. She stayed the night with me, slept beside me, but was gone when I woke up... I don't even know if it was a dream... I have a friend now, his name, Impulse.... I believe I'm going with him to find a female he knows. ....But those are the only memories I have. The ones I've just made."

His voice sounded so pathetic, so submissively weak, just as he looked right now. "What I wouldn't give for my family... For a family to call my own. ....For a pack, something. Something solid Something that would always be there for me...."

Aeryn felt her eyes widen against her will. This male, this random male that showed up out of nowhere was quoting her innermost thoughts. She stayed quiet for a time, just sorting it out in her head and deciding it was just a coincidence, how she had ever believed that she was the only one who had that dream she did not know. Hesitantly she crawled over to him, keeping her head low and laid down next to the male, resting her head on her paws much as he had done.
“At least you have a friend, that’s something that would brighten anyone’s day.” The female mumbled quietly to the ground under her paws, what she had failed to mention was how she did not even have that, the female had truly out casted herself from her previous pack.
“Forgive me, my name is Aeryn...” The female closed her eyes lightly, trying to figure out what had compelled her to even speak to the other, let alone listen to him in hope of helping his problems.

[Backus looked to the female when she spoke, eyes watching her carefully. He tensed up when she neared, but didn't feel any anger on her, so he relaxed just as quickly. Looking to the side again, he gave a grunt. "Backus..." the male replied back, voice quiet. Why talk normally when she was right there? His ears managed to perk up a tad bit more. "Aye, I have a friend, but I don't... know where he is," he said finally, sighing a bit more. He didn't know where anyone was, honestly. He wanted to know where Impulse was, where his family wa- he stopped that thought. Why bother thinnking about something painful when you were trying to help someone else? That was a stupid thing to do.

".....You've no friends? No pack, then?" he asked. He felt like he was prying, but if it helped her, it helped him. Talking helped Backus, helped calm him down when he was depressed or angered. He'd been outraged when she said she wanted to be a clean slate. No one should want that.

"Forgive me, Aeryn... But.... cherish the memories. The bad ones, too. Surly the good ones outweigh the bad. ...Don't think of the bad. If it's this day you dread, think of the good. I know I would.."

“Sadly in my life, the bad outweigh the good. And no I have no friends… My only friend died and it was my fault. He was waiting for me…” she sighed inwardly and closed her eyes, allowing herself to open other senses, she listened to the sound of the others quiet breathing, the chirping of birds… everything was so serene, and yet here were two depressed wolfs that didn’t seem to be getting any better.

“Would you… care to walk?” Aeryn asked quietly with her eyes still closed, unsure of whether or not he would care for her company any longer.

“Perhaps we can rid ourselves of our bad luck and find your friend.” She opened one eye to meet one of his own, empty with thoughts of her past. They were the past, exactly that. If she were to constantly ponder such things they would surely turn her mad in time. Having him find his friend would make her happy, but she doubted she could stay around long.

He looked up at her again at the question and he nodded. A walk to rid themselves of the bad sounded like a plan. He got to his paws and shook himself off, finding out how much taller he was than she. He wasn't a big wolf per say, just tall. Licking his muzzle he yawned and sighed, already trying to rid himself of depression.

"It sounds like a good idea to me," he said after a while, nodding. He stepped ahead of the female, going down the path he saw Impulse take a day or two ago. "I do know he went this way.." His tone was a bit happier, even if forced. He wanted them to get to know each other better, not all depressed and easily agitated like they were.

Aeryn quietly stood up after he did, a few inches shorter than the male. She had been the runt of her litter, hardly able to stand up against her brothers. Everyone learned of her strength after they found the hunter dead, and she was to be never challenged again, but she left. The female followed quietly behind the male doubtful they would find his friend, but at least forcing herself to believe it could be a possibility.
“How long ago did he leave?” She asked quietly allowing him to leave and watching the path around them, paranoid of anyone else showing up. Really she had no idea why she was following at all, but she just felt as though she was meant to.

“What I wouldn’t give for something solid, something that even time would lie down for.” She whispered quietly to herself, remembering what she had been contemplating earlier, how his words were almost identical to her own. It was indeed something to ponder at the very least.

Backus had heard her murmuring to herself, but said nothing about it. He was sure she needed private time to think, which was alright by him. Lord knows he had enough of that before. Though, he was thinking that this pretty female obviously deserved better than what she'd gotten. He still didn't know, and he still wasn't going to pry into someone's life like that.

"My friend left about a day ago, but Impulse.... he's something else. Rainbow and white with a black back. Honestly, you couldn't miss him. Plus..." he paused a minute, trying to think how to word this. "He has bangles on his back legs. .....Kind of, I guess, flamboyant." Was that how you described that colorful male? Flamboyant seemed about right. But he wasn't sure there was a word he knew that could peg him just right.

Aeryn tilted her head and listened to the others description of his friend. Well on the up side, he would not be that difficult to find, on the downside she saw no such thing around them. The female caught up to the other and listened to him speak fondly of the other male. She had to remember that it wasn’t so long ago she would have been saying something similar of the male she once loved. She closed her eyes and continued walking, putting the images so ready to climb out to the tip of her mind behind her.

It was not long before the female grew antsy with her quietness and tried to propel some sort of conversation with the other that would not pertain to finding his friend he had lost.
“So… what were you doing out there, by the waterfall I mean?” she asked quietly, staring at the ground as they walked. The femme raised one eye to look at the blue pelted male beside her, not quite sure what the rolls of social etiquette demanded at the time being. She had been wandering for far too long.
