I just had to report an under-aged user, who told me they were nine years old in my profile. gonk
So incredibly disturbing. This isn't the first time this has happened to me- I've had my fair share of twelve year olds- but NINE? Why aren't parents monitoring what websites their children go on, what if this kid finds its way into the GD?
Have you ever had an experience with an under-aged user? How did you handle it?

Well, I was 11 when I joined Gaia in 05 but all I kept to myself most of the time and I didn't even venture anywhere outside my own personal space except for the Guilds.
Gaia was a lot different back then.
I have had some experience with under-aged users but I didn't report them unless they were acting completely immature or they were under the age of 12.
It's actually really surprising because a lot of the under aged kids on here are much more mature than the older users.
Deal with reality. Stop hoping, dreaming, etc.
Pray and tell God that you forgive them for not being able to love you. Ask God to take this from you - and He will. Then continue to deal with reality. Don't tell yourself, maybe someday... they'll change... True love accepts the person for who they are, even when they are evil and they don't love you. It means accepting reality. When you love and accept reality at the same time, you are forced to move on. When you deal with reality and move on without love, you take bitterness with you. When you love without dealing with reality, you hurt yourself. Love the other person, Accept the reality and pray to God for the wisdom and strength you'll need to do that continuously until it ceases to become a problem.

Its not a surprise that we have young ones on Gaia, after all, a quick look at the whole avatar customisation thing is probably all any parent needs to think its a kids site. However, the simple fact is, its not, its a site for older individuals, the avatar customisation...well I guess thats just one of Gaias attractive features.
You did the right thing Colourblind, we need to protect the young from the forum content that winds up on this site. Personally, I think there should be forums that are restricted to younger Gaians, and subject to very strict moderation, that way, people of all ages could enjoy the site safely. Alas, tis not so.

I used to be on Gaia at 12 but kept it to myself also.

Parents should know what websites their children go onto- when I joined at 12 my mother read about this site- and said it was okay and I was mature enough to handle everything on here.
I'm not sure if most parents would do the same.
The avatars are somewhat 'kid friendly' but a lot of the items aren't- especially the lingerie.

It all just depends on whether or not the parent thinks their kid can handle it. Most likely the kid's parents hadn't seen the site at all or only gave it a quick glance, but maybe the kid could have handled it. I grew up playing violent video games and listening to heavy metal and sitting at the table when my brother and his friends were playing Vampire The Masquerade and watching violent movies, but my parents knew I could handle it, and I could. Anything I couldn't handle at that age I would walk away from it.
Also, underageb& lol.

I didn't report her because I always feel bad when I have to report someone that is under-age. I just told her that she was far too young to be on this website, let alone the internet in my opinion.

When I joined back in 05', I was nine years old myself. I kept quiet, and this year I turned 13. So, I am actually able to play legally now. But, the funny thing is is that I can't remember my old account. It's a bummer, because my old account had a Katana on it. What a shame.
But, yes. Under-aged users seem to be a problem--well, atleast the users that are under 12. I admittedly shouldn't have joined in 05, but I really loved it. I've always been the literate nazi though, so whatever.
So, no, 12- should not join the website. Never actually encountered under aged users on the website, though.

Some users on Gaia probably lie about their age, knowing that others will go along with it. Even though they are probably sneaking around from their parents, they will be eventually caught. Twelve is just a horrible age to be involved in a site like this no matter how mature they might think they are.
I myself did not join until a few years back in 04.

Though I don't condone it, I think 12 year olds, and younger unfortunately, are on way worse sites than this.

I'm okay with 12 year olds going on sites like this one because there really isn't much difference between 12 and 13. Anything under that is too young though, there really is a lot of stuff on here that isn't for kids.

I've never encountered an under-aged user before. I don't really see the point in reporting them, after all, there aren't that many inappropriate things on this site(other than the way some people in the Towns might act).
