L4D's Pipe Bomb:Small, fused, explosive, with a bright flashing light and emitting a high pitched beep.Purpose:Attracting zombies within earshot to the device, luring them to an explosion destroying all zombies within the explosions radius.
Q: Could this possibly work in a real outbreak, being a possible savior to you or you're team? Or the most foolish idea that could risk you're whole survival? Answer and elaborate.
Possible Downfalls:Explosions noise attracting more zombies than the expected amount intended.Could it be strong enough to kill the amount of undead, or perhaps just blowing they're limbs off.Malfunction in the bombs. Zombies lose interest(if any at all) only creating a horde of investigating zombies.

Wouldn't a pipe-bomb depend at least in part on it's fragmentation capabilities? Being that to a zombie the shrapnel wouldn't matter much, the explosion would have to be much stronger increasing the risk of blowing yourself up and causing more damage than intended. Where would you get the materials as well? It's hard enough finding salt peter, a common chemical for gardening that also happens to be highly explosive, but wouldn't the LEDs and batteries be better off for something else? And again, what about blowing your own arse up? In order to make the ingredients you would need it would take hours of work and you have to COOK the ingredients.
All-in-all it doesn't seem like that good of an idea. =T

All-in-all it doesn't seem like that good of an idea. =T ATTENTION EVERYONE!This guy knows what he's talking about. Fact of the matter is, if you're construct a bomb, you're better have a lot of time on your hands. Furthermore, the materials you need are no longer in assembly. If you have an attraction method, it better be portable and retrievable. My advice: A steel ball with some sort of attraction method inside, with the bombs strapped to a building. You pull in the max zombies, then ignite the fuse. The building falls and you've now got a zombie pancake. This only works if you have a small squad, because you've now got to dig through the rubble to recover the attraction device. Other possible uses/ideas for this device: Makeshift flash-bang. This can be done with some simple powder that makes a bright flash and a loud bang. Doesn't have to be incredibly volatile. You can either use it to lure zombies, or lure them in another way, then use it in a small secluded room to ambush the zombies.

The pipe bomb would not work like the game. Most likely, it's not going to draw everything to the bomb instead of you, or even any at all. Maybe one or two particularly stupid ones. Then, if it DID create some big mob on it, it would only kill the first few who are right on it. It's the same idea as jumping on a grenade. The closest bodies, likely right on it, would absorb the power of the explosion and much of any shrapnel, leaving the rest unharmed, if a bit shaken up. And then, with the average throwing power, and trying not to make it blow prematurely, with the few that WILL show up to block said explosion, it's very likely you will still be in range of shrapnel and the shockwave unless you put a long timer on it, and BOOK IT THE ******** OUT OF THERE.

Pipe will attract zombies, the question is: WILL THE ZOMBIES FALL FOR IT? They wont attack it like in the game, but just look at it and go further on since it's nothing you can actually eat.

If they're not focused on YOU, they might give it a glance. But if you just give the thing a toss to try and distract them... I doubt it.
