Concept is a complete form of art on its own~ Nobody wants a shop just like the one next door, and the next shop, and the next shop, and the next shop...all just with different art. No matter how wonderful your art is, I refuse to buy a pet if your theme is whenever you take your dog/cat/mouse/brother on a walk, it fights with the other person's dog/cat/mouse/brother and then they say sorry and it happens again. What's the fun of that? I know that many people like some nice long, thoughtful roleplaying with a plot that everyone can follow. So, as a conclusion, read these do's and dont's of concepts when you're creating a shop yourself.

Don't!

-NO MORE FLIPPING ELEMENTAL WOLF PACKS!!!!
-No, seriously, don't even try to bend it. We have -counts on fingers, grabs another guy's hand and counts, gives up- TOO MANY elemental wolf shops.
-Don't even have a wolf shop in general...
-Don't have a story completely unrelated to the plot.
-Don't have RP plot events for an lol shop [one that's completely irrelevant to anything]
-Actually, don't have an lol shop in general. They never last more than a few weeks.
-Don't make it too complicated. Remember, people have to be able to get the gist of a shop. Try to be able to summarize it in 2 sentences.

Do!

-Take constructive criticism.
-Work it together piece by piece.
-Work it out with your staff; ask them for their honest opinion of this idea or that idea.
-Come up with a story AFTER the concept is built, and try to think of a creative way that explains how everything was put into place.
-Post your ideas in this thread for myself and others to strip appart and murder your soul give constructive criticism.

Post away~

Well, this is a good start, possibly a more professional tone in the Don't section?
Using all caps and more than one exclamation point isn't really necessary. I agree that there are a lot of wolf shops, but there are also a lot of horse shops, and a lot of dragon shops, lion shops, cat shops, dog shops, etc. That doesn't mean people shouldn't feature that type of pet, only that they should be aware that it will be a much greater challenge to stand out from the crowd *if* they choose that species.

Also, what is 'an lolshop'? I've heard of 'an hero' but not an lolshop!

"Don't have a story completely unrelated to the plot." O_o could you say this again? How can a story be unrelated to the plot, aren't the two the same thing?

Also, while not necessarily something for this thread itself, having a listing of what the different shop type abbreviations are would probably help shop owners. X3 'I/T' vs 'B/C', etc. I still can't fathom the first though have discovered that 'B/C' must mean 'breedable/changing' given the fact that it's used so often!

a lolshop is ... well, the best definition I can give you is a very non-serious shop, one for laughs more than the typical shop focus of RP/breeding.

B/C is indeed Breedables/Changeables, a related abbreviation is BCP, or Breedables/Changeables Pet.

I/T means Interest Thread - a thread that a prospective shop owner makes to see if there's any interest in their shop concept/sketches/ideas. Not every shop starts off as an Interest Thread, but many do. you may see I/T combined with the one above; BC I/T: for example as a thread title.

I have a lolshop that's lasted over a year, no rp or anything. 3nodding I think commitment to the shop by the owner is a better indicator than a shop's actual seriousness/atmosphere.
