In Lyell's opinion, it was an ideal way to live out one's life. If nothing else, the idea seemed to be supported while enough. Not only could the phrase and its English translation of "seize the day" be found all over the place, but there were so many other expressions that boiled down to the same message. You never know what might happen tomorrow. Rather than spending your days planning and imagining a future that was unknowable in reality, go out and take advantage of the time you have.
It was from his guardian that he'd picked the expression up. Unfortunately for her, he seemed intent on taking what he'd learned and using it against her.
Lyell had been left on his own earlier that day after being dropped off at the park. He had been given two simple rules beyond the ideas he already knew (like don't follow strangers into creepy vans). The first was to stay within the park until his 'mother' came to pick him up. The second, which he was currently doing a fine job of breaking, was to not go climbing the trees.
Why not? Wasn't she the one who told him to seize the day? And if not now, when?
Of course, he was wary of being caught all the same. His argument of her influence in his "seize the day" mindset was more for "in case she sees me" than "when she sees me". For as logical as his argument was, he had this creeping feeling that it just wouldn't cut it and he'd find himself in trouble regardless.
Yet it never quite crossed his mind that being barely four feet off the ground could hardly be considered as having "climbed" the tree. Four feet was, for the moment, quite high enough for Lyell's confidence. Sitting sideways on the branch, he swung his legs idly as his hands rested upon the wood on either side of him.

Kiyoshi was leaving practice with a bit of a smile on his face, he was getting better and better with each class that he took. It was a rather relaxing sort of sport and something that he enjoyed spending his time on. His bow and arrows were wrapped up to show that they weren't of any danger to those around him while he waited for his ride to show up. He'd gone from where he practiced to the park where he got picked up and moved over to one of the benches to set his things down there.
The boy shrugged out of his uniform that was meant to be worn while he was at practice, quickly folded it up, and set it on the bench as well. Finally the boy got a tie out of his pocket and set to braiding his long hair back before he looked around the park. He still had a lot of energy left and he wanted to work it off before his Daddy showed up, the other members of his family were so laid back, artists who seemed content to just sit around doing nothing all day... it drove him crazy...
He looked around in a full circle to take note of who was present before he started off away from the bench, certain that his things were safe on their own for the moment.

It was nice spending time at the park. Certainly spending a few hours at the park was preferable to spending a few hours at the grocery store. It wasn't any help that Mari had a tendency to forget things on the first go-through, or might change her mind later and decide she either did or didn't want something on the opposite side of the store. It was exhausting, really. Bizarre as well, when Lyell found himself more exhausted from grocery shopping than spending a day at the park...
Shaking his head to dismiss the thoughts of where he could have been at the moment, the boy took another look around himself. Really, this was no time to be spacing out. Interesting things could be happening, and what if he was allowing himself to miss them by zoning out over silly, irrelevant things?
Looking around himself, the boy was surprised to find a few changes he had missed entirely. For example, a small pile of articles had been set on a bench within his view, and walking away from them was a young male like himself (though perhaps a little older).
Lyell stretched slowly after making this discovery, leaning back slightly as he did so. Once the tension of remaining still had at least loosened, he set to returning himself to solid ground. With a cautious look to the ground that really wasn't as far down as he felt it to be, he scooted to the edge of the branch and made the little hop off that led to his short drop of a few feet.

Kiyoshi gave a smile as he found that the swings were free, not many people were around today it would seem. He wondered if they had all gone to the pool instead of to the park and found himself wondering if he could go and learn to swim sometime soon. He walked over to brush the swing off of what was clinging to it, dirt and debris but nothing really worrisome before he sat down on it.
He pushed off with his feet and set himself to swinging and it was as he was working on getting higher into the air that he noticed that he wasn't alone anymore. The boy blinked his silver eyes before giving a smile, lifting one hand from the chains of the swing to wave quickly at Lyell before he took hold of it again. He didn't want to test his luck and fall down from the swing and either hurt himself or hurt his pride...
"Hello!" He called, maybe it would be easier to talk to the neat looking boy instead of trying to wave.

Once back on solid ground, Lyell gave a look around. The difference wasn't much more than a few feet, perhaps the same as if he'd sat upon his mother's shoulders and compared that to standing on his own two feet, but it still was a completely different perspective to a young child like himself. There were two totally different views, and now once more Lyell looked around to regain his bearings.
It was then he heard the call of greeting, and bright eyes flashed in the direction it had come from. Seeing the boy he'd noticed earlier now upon the swings, a smile touched Lyell's lips as he made off in Kiyoshi's direction. He stopped beside the swings, far enough away that he wasn't at risk (not to mention that he was next too and not in front of or behind the swingset) but near enough he didn't have to raise his voice too much.
"Hello yourself," he answered cheerily, rocking on his heels. "Mind if I join you?" His words were accompanied by a glance to the unoccupied swing.

The milk pocky boy gave a giggle and a smile, "Sure! It would be nice to have someone to swing with." He told the other boy, counting himself as lucky to be able to have someone to talk with while he waited for his father to arrive to bring him home. He set to swinging faster and higher, looking out over the park which he could see much better from the highest up points of his swinging.
"My name is Kiyoshi, I'm waiting for my Daddy to pick me up because I just got done with practice." He explained to the other boy, as though to fill in why he was waiting here alone.

Kiyoshi... Lyell repeated in his thoughts, skirting around the swingset cautiously. Brushing lightly at the seat after concluding visually that there was nothing truly disgusting on it, the boy took his seat and pushed lightly off the ground.
"I'm Lyell," he responded, giving another kick to the ground before focusing on continuing the swing's movement and keeping it going. "Mari lets me stay at the park sometimes when she goes shopping." There was only a few moments of pause before he asked the question that had come to mind, glancing over to Kiyoshi as he too set to adding speed and height to his swing. "What were you practicing?"

"Its nice to meet you Lyell." Kiyoshi said with a happy smile on his face as he got himself swinging higher and higher, sure that at any moment he was going to be able to touch the clouds. He shifted a bit in the swing so that he could lean way back in it, his braid dragging on the ground with each pass. It was a neat feeling as the world went almost upside down as he leaned as far back as he was.
"I was here for my archery lesson." He told Lyell from his upside down postion, "I'm not allowed to do it at home, not enough space or the right set up." It wasn't any fun at all... the other three members of his family were able to do their art stuff at home but he couldn't do any of his favorite things inside.
He always got yelled at for throwing things or kicking things around... though the latter he seemed to get away with more often so long as what he was kicking stayed on the ground. He looked over at his new friend and smiled, "Do you like sports Lyell?" He sounded almost hopeful, surely there was someone out there that like them like he did?

Unlike Kiyoshi, who had been swinging for a while longer, Lyell was still working to gather the momentum that would eventually keep him going higher and higher. Legs swinging with each cycle of back and forth, the kiwi pocky boy would lean back and pull the chains supporting his swing each time he moved forward.
"Really? You take archery?" he questioned with another glance spared for Kiyoshi. He couldn't really help being impressed by the fact. Archery just sounded... well, interesting. Not only interesting, but it sounded pretty unique too. How often did you meet someone who took archery? "That's cool." Though he could understand the idea of not being allowed to do things you enjoyed at home, for whatever reasons. Life and its conspiracies against children having fun...
As he built up greater momentum, Lyell didn't put as much effort into his swinging and relaxed to a degree. Feeling the wind created by his movement as his braids would follow a path opposite his swinging, green eyes closed for the time. They opened at Kiyoshi's question though, and a wide smile claimed his lips. "Of course!"

Kiyoshi nodded as he pulled himself up so that he was sitting in the swing normally once more and seemed to be gauging how high he was. He looked over at his new friend and smiled, "Yeah, its really fun!" He chirped, not exactly the sport his parents had been expecting him to take up when he requested to join a sport but they had allowed it none the less.
The milk pocky boy calculated something as he swung back then on the next up swing he jumped, for a moment feel as though he were flying before he landed in the sand. He hopped once then landed on his knees with a giggle, "Bad landing." He said to himself before pushing to his feet and brushed off.
His attention was back on Lyell after he had brushed off as much dirt as would come off of his pants before grinning, "Really? Awesome! I haven't met enough people who like sports." Not nearly enough, Nes had liked at least that dancing game though so that was close.

It certainly sounded fun. And once again, archery... it just sounded so much more unique. Usually you might get an answer like soccer or baseball, football or basketball, hockey... maybe even swimming. Archery, however... it just seemed unique, especially for the day and age, as well as the setting. Though... Mari said that some other places offer all sorts of interesting sports like archery to go into...
Shaking his head lightly, he watched as the other boy jumped from the swing. When the other stumbled to his knees, Lyell hesitated but calmed as Kiyoshi seemed perfectly fine. "Really?" The words seemed... shocking? Maybe there was just a twinge of disappointment, since if the other boy had met so few others who liked sports, what if they were a small group?
But he didn't dwell on it, smiling. "Well, at least you've met one more now, right?" he offered, looking to the brighter side of it as he continued to swing.

Kiyoshi trotted back over to the swing that he'd just jumped from and sat back down in it, brushing at his pants again before giving a shrug. Ah well, a few stains weren't ever going to kill him... though he was certain his parents weren't going to be to pleased about it. He gave a shrug before he set to swinging again.
"That's true." He agreed when the other said that he'd at least met one more person who liked sports, "What sorts of sports are you into? Are you on any teams?" He asked curiously, hoping that he wasn't being to bothersome in all of the questions from him about Lyell's interests.
This time as he got up higher once more he leaned back again in his swing, enjoying the floating feeling. There were times he almost wished that he could fly.

Lyell didn't mind the questions any. Why would he let them be a bother, when he was asking and saying so much himself? Besides, he could have just ignored the other boy and all his questions if he really wanted to (though it would have been quite rude). At the very least, he could tell Kiyoshi if the other was being bothersome.
"I'm not really on any teams," he admitted with a little shrug, eyes closing as he let himself focus on the wind that passed him going either way. "I'll play whatever I can at home with two people... or just myself." Mind, this usually resulted in some bastardized form of the sport... "Like soccer. Mari's putting up a basketball net too." He paused, thinking for a few moments. "And we used to play baseball in the backyard, but we moved to the park because of too many close calls." Humming softly, the child considered what else could be mentioned. "And a few other things, I guess. You could say swimming... or sometimes I play tennis and badmitton and all sorts of other things when I go to the sports club with Mari..."

The white haired boy sat up in his swing and starred up at him with huge eyes, "Wow, that sounds amazing!" He gasped out, Lyell did so many sports that it just had him so amazed as the list seemed to go on and on.
He wanted to be able to play as many sports as that he thought in a delighted manner. He made a mental note of everything that was listed so that he would remember the names so he could look into them when he was next at the store, "I would like to learn to swim." He said with a smile, "It always looks interesting when I watch the people swimming on the television."
Kiyoshi looked over to Lyell, "We should play something together sometime." He told Lyell, it was to bad that they didn't have a ball with them today or they could play today. Since they couldn't play today though they could always make plans for another day he decided.

If he hadn't been swinging but instead more-or-less stationary, Lyell may have swung and kicked his legs idly as they hung just over the ground. As it was, they continued moving with the swinging only out of a habit. Yet that had slowed, allowing the height and speed of his swinging to drag out slowly. Almost it was like a child who, knowing recess was nearly over but too scared to jump, was simply allowing the swing to slow itself back to a lower height and slower speed.
A smile broke on his face though at Kiyoshi's amazement, despite his own efforts to keep it from doing so. "It's not really that great... I mean, not being on a team or anything, I have all sorts of time to just try whatever I feel like at the time." Yet he was still smiling, and he nodded with Kiyoshi's admittance that he wanted to learn to swim. Well, swimming was always fun. Not to mention that it could be very useful...
"That would be great!" he chirruped happily, smiling over at Kiyoshi. Sure, the next question would be what they should play, but it wasn't like they may only ever meet once. Plenty of time, really, to play plenty of things.
