Captain Hammer often took credit for something good Billy (AKA) Dr. Horrible has done so that is one mark against him. Dr. Horrible saved Penny
from the truck. One good guy mark. Captain hammer helped Penny with the homeless shelter. One good guy mark. Dr.Horrible Robbed a bank for gold and made a death ray/freeze ray. 2 bad guy marks. Captain Hammer killed penny. That is like 2 bad guy marks! So lets tally up the scores.

What do you think?

My understanding is that Dr. Horrible isn't really "evil" but more like he has a way of doing things that he wants to get done. It may not be the nicest way of doing it but it's how he does it. He also tries not to hurt people, just Captain Hammer. Dr. Horrible cares for the people and is angry at the way the world is run, which is why he tries to take it over.
That's just how I see it.

Captain Hammer just loves himself and likes to bask in his own glorious spotlight. Captain Hammer only does things that make him look good, he doesn't care who he hurts a long as it helps his image. He's also a simple-minded douchebag.
I think if Captain Hammer wanted to be evil, he would be evil but I think he'd rather have people worshiping him than running from him.

dr horrible acts like a bad guy, but he seemed like the good guy since he couldn't kill off Captain Hammer. the Captain was ready to kill Dr Horriblem so i think he's more like the villain.

I love your hair.
What?

No one purposely killed Penny. Also Billie isn't that much of a bad guy, he was hesitant when he was going to kill Captain Hammer, also the only reason he became a bad guy was cause Penny was killed on accident...While Captain Hammer is just another prideful, obnoxious guy who has gotten use to the attention...so you can't blame him for being that way. XD

Dr. Horrible was a main cause of penny's death but Captain Hammer is the main factor of her death. In other words Dr Horrible gets into the league and Captain Hammer, the hero gets traumatized and possibly swears revenge on Dr. Horrible

I disagree, if Dr. Horrible wasn't evil he wouldn't try so hard to join the Evil League of Evil. He isn't however a typical bad guy because yes, he does have emotions, but that's what makes him so dynamic. He's more like the "upper class" bad guy.. He finds killing to be tacky... And like he said "I bring you pain, the kind you can't suffer quietly"

On the note of Captain Hammer I completely agree and would like to add, giving him the benefit of the doubt, at first he might have actually been a genuinely good guy, the kind of person Geoffrey Chaucer would have written fondly of, but some where down the line of growing up he mentally stopped growing and stayed in the "high school jock" mode.

Or just maybe the writers of this story was trying to warn us about society. Are our "evil" doers really that bad, and are our heros really worthy to be heros?

but... if it wasnt for Dr. Horrible wanting so badly to join the Evil League of Evil Penny would have been spared...

I think Dr. Horrible has good intentions. He just wants to fix the world. He's going about it in a weird way, but that's what makes him interesting. Or maybe Dr. H is a bad guy and Billy is a good guy; two sides of the same person fighting each other for dominance.

Captain hammer is the opposite, a guy doing good things with bad intentions. Everything he does is just to feed his ego.

Neither of them is evil. I think most of the time viewers mistake antagonists for "the bad guys" and see them as pure evil, even though they will, most of the time, simply think that what they are doing is right. Like I said in another thread, both of them are at fault in some way: Captain Hammer is a complete idiot, bully, corrupt superhero, etc., but he's doing what is greatly accepted by society as crime-fighting; Billy is vengeful, grudging, and by the end willing to kill, but he's just trying to change the world for the better. Really, there is no right or wrong. The lines are blurred.

He never said he wanted to fix the world... "The world is a mess... and I just need to rule it"

i agree with you. dr. horrible wanted to better the world by simply controling it. captain hammer wanted to make himself look good. penny just got caught up in their mess

Actually, everything is Billy's fault. Billy, not Doctor Horrible. If Billy could just get up the nerves to talk to Penny before the wonderflonium heist, Doctor Horrible would never grow beyond some guy on a blog, and Captain Hammer would just still be an a** going around picking up girls. Penny would have fallen in love with Billy and taught him another way of seeing the world. Billy is just deluded. Captain Hammer is a Jerk. Penny is a pure soul.
