The guild is usually far more active, however in America we are nearing Thanksgiving, which is one of our major holidays. Many people take this time to travel and visit friends and families, and may not have the internet access they usually do.
I would suggest doing an online search. Since we are so spread apart from eachother (and "a shop in england" still gives a HUGE landmass to choose from), that is the best way to find one nearby.

Malkut's right. The guild is never inactive, but it does slow down dramatically- not just for holidays, but also because most of us have real life jobs. (It appears our median age in the guild is about four years older than the rest of Gaia, so it's not school for most of us, and there's no vacation days and summer break).
And if you can't find anything in your area, check out the idea of ordering online. mountain rose herbs (mountainroseherbs.com) has some great stuff, I don't know if they ship overseas, though. But it's certainly worth the look!
