Here, anybody can discuss the techniques, teachings, anything about Vovinam in general.

I guess I shall give you guys some information about Vovinam. Well, this is what I know.
Vovinam has thirty attack forms. A beginner starts off learning basic rolls, falls, self-defense techniques, and attack forms. I don't know how to go into specifics because there's so much to talk about. Feel free to ask me questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability, although my knowledge is limited considering the fact that I'm only a dark blue one stripe.
Said three attack forms before...big typo and I fixed it. It's actually thirty.

What is the basis of their attack and defense? Closed fist technique? Throws, catches? Grappling? Does the school employ weapons?

The basis of attack and defense consists of 4 different kicks, 4 different punches, 4 blocks, 4 chops, and 4 elbows. All of this is included in the first form, Nhap Mon Quyen.
Kicks: Straight kick, sidekick, angle kick, and roundhouse Punches: straight punch, long punch, uppercut, and hook Chops, blocks, and elbows are hard to explain. Blocks are open palm.
Grappling and throws are not part of the basic training, but is part of some more advanced dual forms. Weapons are tested at the more advanced level, but my class does teach weapons for performance.

That's interesting. What kind of weapons do you use? Saber/stick/staff/spear, etc? I've not been able to find much information on Vietnamese styles of swords. Only seen that for the most part they've been influenced by their surrounding nation's choice if blades, like various dao/dha/dab types of saber.
