I've learned how to fall correctly recently...but I'm having trouble practicing it because I'm afraid to fall so my knees keep bending, which isn't supposed to happen? Any tips to get rid of this fear? Or should I just keep practicing until I finally get over it? >.< When I get on my knees and fall, I'm okay. When standing, I can't do it.

When standing, I can't do it. how are you taught to fall? in my dojo, we teach to basically sit down, and relax (after all the butt has a lot of cushion.) tuck your chin, and arch your back. but to get over it...i'd say just take a deep breath or two before each time, do your best to relax, and just go for it, like when jumping in a cold pool, u'll stop short if you do it bit by bit, but if you just close your eyes, jump and go for it, then it'll be easier.

It's supposed to be used for falling when somebody pushes you from behind. So we stand, then fall, and land on the sides of our hands, where the fat is, in front of our body.

like i said, just try and treat it like getting into a cold pool. take a deep breath, and convince yourself to go for it, and think of nothing else for only a second or two, because by then you've reached the point of no return.
n/p that's what the guild was made for, for martial artist, to help each other as much as possible.

I have a problem about rolling forward too. When I kick my back leg over my head to start the roll, I always always kick to the right and always end up crooked. Even when I try to kick the other way as much as possible it still ends up the same >.< I can't control my leg to make it go the way I want to.

we learn a lot about different falls and rolls (so we don't get hurt when we throw eachother or .......just if we fall) . To get over the front fall try to practice on your knees first. Then try doing it on your feet. If you need any more help bout falling i'm your gal.

As far as rolling forwards goes, I try to teach people to think about threading a needle. Take their dominate hand and push in through your non dom sorta tucked behind your back, out of the way and not breakable. at that point just tuck your chin and you should kinda flop over. then just practice over and over.

Lynne Meghan It's supposed to be used for falling when somebody pushes you from behind. So we stand, then fall, and land on the sides of our hands, where the fat is, in front of our body. That sounds bad. If you're being pushed full force from behind, trying to support the fall with the sides of your hand doesn't give you much surface area to support your body weight. In addition you could shatter your hand! You should use the whole hand and forearms to absorb the shock, even though it could still hurt a little. But, better than landing on your face! Also, in reality, you will also use your knees slightly in a forward break fall. I've taken a full force push from behind in a mosh pit...cement mind you. You hit the ground much faster than you realize. I did an almost perfect forward break fall on my hands (not so much on the forearms) and lightly on the knees. I did hurt my hand a little, but wasn't injured a bit.

Fall forward, arching your back, and tucking your chin. Turn your shoulders slightly to the left so that you are rolling across your right shoulder. Use your hands to guide the roll without falling on your hands for support. Allow your legs to follow your upper body movement. Kind of like a basic somersault.
