The large battlefield sitting before the fighters was custom designed for this battle. The entire battlefield is actually built into a giant bridge over a large spiked pit. The spikes themselves are poisoned and many rats litter the bottom of it looking for a meal. The bridge itself is made out of solid stone and is nicely decorated with statues at both ends. The statues are of Chaos standing on top of Masamune, engraved within the base of the statue it reads "This arena brought to you by Masamune's check book."

This being a Jounin exam lethal force is not authorized however throwing your opponent over the side of the bridge is permitted.

Anata wa watashi ga zutto mae ni "sayounara" to yutta hito wo omoidasaseru.

Tougura hadn't expected the newest round of exams to be so...extravagant. With the recent repair costs factored in, brought about by the latest war, one could only wonder how deep the wealth of the Hidden Sky could be.

The organizer of this event has given my clansmen too much of an advantage...I suppose young Westly wouldn't care to complain if I used this. After all, he and I share a similar philosophy on battle, if I remember correctly.

As per the rules, Tougura couldn't use "lethal" force against any fellow shinobi participating in this event. Though he knew the people in Gaioh to be rather resilient to fatal injury, he had decided to play it "safe" and cast aside his bow and blade for the upcoming battles. His only weapons would be his fists, his jutsu, and a "light" variety of his explosive tools.

A slight breeze rolled over the area; blowing his robe a bit and revealing a black-mesh shirt covering bunched-up cargo pants. There was a slight gleam from his waist but...that could have just been his belt buckle...right?

"Westly-kun, how do you feel about this match up?" he called to what, presumably, could have been Westly; if the battle hadn't begun the moment both shinobi had stepped foot on the grounds.

For all Tougura knew, the shinobi had found a way to make himself invisible with genjutsu, and he was merely talking to one of the boy's well-made clones.

Westly surveyed the battlefield, as he began formulating one of his inscrutable plans. He whistled, impressed with the scenery.

So, the committee finally caved after that complaint I filed. And that, uh, incident I caused....

Westly had always hated the plain, packed-earth arena floor. The most important aspect of being a ninja was using the terrain to one's advantage. He'd said as much to the arena committee, but they complained that setting up a decent battleground was too expensive. So Westly had walked into the arena, jumped into the stands, and used the spectators as human shields. "I'm just using the terrain to my advantage," he'd said. And so, somehow, since then, they'd managed to find a little more funding. It was just a trick of making a custom battlefield less expensive than the legal fees of the spectators.

Westly nodded to Tougura. He'd been hoping to face off against Shin in the first round, but facing Tougura wasn't so bad. After all, Shin was a known friend and associate of Westly, and Harou a known rival. With Westly facing off against Tougura, that put Shin and Harou in a ring somewhere by default. Westly had slipped Shin an enormous amount of intel on Harou before their fight had started....

"It's not a bad matchup," said Westly. "I hope there's no hard feelings, though. You seem a decent fellow. I'd hate to ruin a perfectly good chance at friendship by causing you serious injury." He blinked. "You know, they've never been quite clear about this point: do we wait for a signal from the judges, or do we just go?"

"Can't tell if you're being serious about that..."

Tougura formed a few quick hand-seals, never taking his eyes off of the boy in front of him.

Kamikaze Bushin: Razorwind Varient

Four copies of Tougura faded into existence around their creator, all with an emotionless glare; aimed at Westly.

"...the battle begun the moment we both stepped onto this bridge."

Tougura wouldn't be drawn into talking with Westly, that would just give him more time to set-up a larger attack. The clones ran forward, on their own separate paths, with just enough distance apart from another where as an attack on one of them wouldn't wipe them all out.

Let's assume that one's real, for the time being.

Tougura pulled an explosive from his robe and stuck it on his belt. With the fuse lit, Tougura gave a strong pitch and threw the bomb where as it would land not too-far from where his opponent was standing.

Keep him moving and don't let him lay down any mist.

Wind User. He's an Ichijin, goes without saying. Not laying down any mist anyway, he'd just blow it away.

Westly made a pair of handseals. A very simply technique, partly genjutsu but mostly taijutsu. "Eyes on me! Hitomi!" he shouted gleefully, his grin widening to nigh-manic proportions. Grinning manically was a great stress-reliever, a known intimidation tactic, and so long as you knew how to keep your wits about you while doing it, had no downsides.

Anyway.

Hitomi. It was part flashstep, part charge, part optical illusion, and part actual illusion. The breakdown went as follows:

1. Flashstep. Westly was not a Taijutsu specialist. He wasn't quite up to Leaf Shadow Dance levels when flashstepping. He was still bound by momentum. In other words, he could only flashstep in a straight line. Which meant that, unlike Leaf Shadow Dance, he couldn't flashstep behind someone. But flashstepping in a straight line made for a decent

2. Charge. It's intimidating, it's a great way to close distance between oneself and a ranged attacker, and it's very good at knocking people off cliffs. But unfortunately, there are a number of martial arts moves that allow the person being charged to grab you right when you connect and toss you a sizable distance using your own momentum against you. That's why you need a bit of

3. Optical Illusion. According to Wikipedia, "Motion camouflage is a dynamic type of camouflage by which an object can approach a target while appearing to remain stationary from the perspective of the target." It's a trick dragonflies use. Of course, just to seal the deal, you can also throw in

4. Actual Illusion. Forcing the issue, it makes the optical illusion work and then some.

So... yeah. From Tougura's perspective, Westly took a step and then collided with him at a ridiculous speed. It was like he'd covered all twenty or so feet of the intervening distance in a single step, and barreled into Tougura with an enormous amount of momentum.

From Westly's perspective, he ran past the clones before they could react, and dashed under the flying bomb before it landed. It was a trick he often used: run inside your opponent's reach. Usually, the opponent used a sword, but really, a spread-out formation made of an airborne bomb and a quartet of clones had more openings than a length of solid steel.

Oh, and for the sake of interest, to a third party perspective, they just saw Westly run very quickly toward Tougura. In other words, they saw the flashstep but not the illusion, optical or otherwise. The illusion was for Tougura alone.

Anata wa watashi ga zutto mae ni "sayounara" to yutta hito wo omoidasaseru.

((this is going off the assumption that you actually collided with me with some sort of shoulder-tackle))

Tougura didn't think that Westly was the type to use taijutsu, but it was apparent that this assumption was wrong as he was sent flying backwards and skidding across the ground at the very moment that Westly appeared to teleport in front of him.

A flashstep tackle? No, there had to be something behind it...

The clones, mindlessly, continued their designated path and met up with the explosive at the time it went off. The resulting "creak" going throughout the air would have been ominous enough, but it was coupled with a large whistling as the whirlwinds created by Tougura's four clones met and fused together into a large cyclone of razor-sharp wind. The cyclone was short-lived and Tougura had gotten himself up before it had even began. Maybe this boy would get Tougura to monologue, if he kept up the surprises.

"You should work on your physical strength before you try something like that, Westly-kun. Your blow barely knocked the wind out of me."

Tougura lit another explosive, this time with a much shorter fuse, and threw it at Westly. No sense in wasting chakra if the opponent could just weave through his clones.

Westly began a set of handseals almost as soon as he collided. It was a jutsu in three parts--a three jutsu combo, really--and the third was the hardest and the least practiced. He managed to get through the first two parts, only a couple handseals, but he had to put the last part on hold while he dealt with the incoming explosive. He swatted the bomb to one side, and rolled in the other direction, trying to put as much distance as possible between him and it before it detonated.

When he came up, there was a swarm of pixies surrounding him in a shimmering blue glow. They were making it hard to see Westly, but that was probably just a side effect of them clustering around him rather than the "point" of the jutsu. A brief flick of Westly's eyes took in the number of them. Ohh... I think a couple of them got singed off. That was mean of him. A brief flick in the other direction. Getting uncomfortably close to the edge.... He didn't have time for a glance behind him, but he was a little concerned about what happened to the clones. Oh dear gods, what the HELL is that whistling sound....

The first two parts of the jutsu: one, summon up some mist, and two, shape the mist into creatures with illusion. Mist Awakening and Mist Summons. Together, they were Westly's trademarks. He knew them better and practiced them more than any other jutsu in his repertoire. He could chain them, and only them, together in the amount of time it took him to perform a single more difficult jutsu.

"You don't need strength," Westly riposted, "you just need to be smart enough to know where to apply it."

Anata wa watashi ga zutto mae ni "sayounara" to yutta hito wo omoidasaseru.

While Westly's new...companions were somewhat distracting, but his roll to the side allowed him to see the damage his clones had done to the bridge. While the structure itself was in no danger of collapse, the combination of his explosive, and the pressure provided by his clone's cyclone, had created quite the hole in the stone; about halfway-through is one would guess.

The bridge isn't invincible...quite the little factoid I found myself...

His full attention was brought back to Westly; as he spoke,

"I suppose that would be true...strength is nothing without the wits to use it." Tougura mumbled under his breath as he brought his left foot into the air and let it hang, in-place, on a small tuft of chakra.

Wave Walking

Tougura gave one push with his grounded foot and he was instantly sliding across the air, as if it were ice. Though this technique was usually used with a blade, it was still a way to produce quick motion; without resorting to a flash-step-style technique.

Tougura's run led him in a path, straight for the Westly before him. Though he hadn't seen him make any effort towards it, it was still possible that the one he believed to be his opponent; actually wasn't at all. As Tougura skated his way closer to Westly, he had formed several seals. Just as it would appear he were making effort for a physical assault, Tougura used the air underneath him to form a platform and leap, high into the air. The sound of Tougura striking his explosives could be heards as the boy turned and faced Westly

Wind Element: False Waterfall

Using his Ichijin bloodline to bend the air under his feet, Tougura would be able to amass a large quantity of air under him and use his hands to force it downward upon his opponent.Anyone hit by the technique would be totally stunned for the duration of the technique, as the pressure of the wind forced them downwards. Normally, this would be followed by the user riding the force of the wind and slashing through his opponent with a blade, but as he had no blade present, Tougura had to resort to the next best thing. Two bombs were let go from Tougura's hands and launched downward at the Westly before him. They would still take a few moments to explode, after contact with the ground, but that would be no bother if everything went according to plan.

(( I predict an interrupt around the point I leap into the air...though if this is so then Tougura could just dodge whatever would be thrown at him and still go through with the technique by using another tuft of air to change direction <.< ))

Westly couldn't quite fathom what Tougura was doing. It seemed like an unrelated series of combos with no overreaching stratagem. Tactically clever, though, even they kept leaving openings for him to escape. Still, until Westly figured out Hideki-san's plan, any attempts to counter it would be too dangerous to attempt quite yet. So, for the moment at least, Westly stuck to his own plan.

He kept his eyes fixed firmly on Tougura--or rather, on Tougura's hands. It was a grifter's habit that translated well to a ninja's career. Eye contact was pointless and left one open to genjutsu. By keeping his eyes on Tougura's hands, he was looking at what jutsus he was performing, what weapons he was wielding, and otherwise was staring roughly at Tougura's center of mass, a prime ranged target.

While thusly watching Tougura's hands, Westly started performing the last part of his lovely combo. He'd only just finished when Tougura leapt into the air at him. Again, he dashed forward and rolled, escaping underneath and past Tougura. When he rolled back up into a crouch to face Tougura once more, the pixies were pinkish purple instead of blue.

Now I just need a bloody opening where he can't blow the damn projectile out of bloody skies.

He grinned. "You trying to wreck this thing?" He sounded almost excited at the thought.

The pinkish purple mist was a dead giveaway to what was coming... or it would have been, had Tougura been there for the one previous time Westly had performed the jutsu publicly. Or not, actually, since it caused some memory loss that time.

Oberon's Grail. It was a hopped up version of Westly's earlier jutsu "Bacchus's Sigh". When the mist contacted... there was more to it, medically, but let's just say that when the mist contacted Tougura's face, Tougura would become very, very drunk. And, as a genjutsu, that drunkenness affected everyone roughly equally. A strong stamina or a tolerance for alcohol did nothing; it affected the mind directly.

Unfortunately, as a Wind-nin who knew a little bit about Westly's fighting style, Tougura would've blown away any suspicious-looking mist immediately. Animating the mist into a swarm of pixies let Westly store the attack as something of a homing projectile. It would hit, eventually, he just needed an opening where Tougura couldn't air blast it out of the sky.

Anata wa watashi ga zutto mae ni "sayounara" to yutta hito wo omoidasaseru.

"Could be, Westly-kun!" He shouted down to the boy as the force of his attack left another deep hole in the bridge.

To a passing bystander, the battle seemed to have never left a standstill. Westly couldn't cast his mist while Tougura used his wind and, at the current safe distance Tougura was willing to be from the boy, most of his attacks could be dodged.

He'll have the upper hand, if I can't get close, but those pixies around him just scream trouble.

Tougura could see only one, sure-fire, way to win this match and that would be to, if possible, topple the bridge acting as the arena.

It would be wise to find the supports, before I waste any more explosives.

The boy let his bloodline fade as he quickly dropped-down to the edge of the bridge.

"I'll leave you with some playmates, Westly-kun."

Tougura began forming a flurry of handseals as he let his body drift over the edge. Though it looked as if he fell, Tougura had used one of the elementary jutsu, known to all shinobi in Gaioh, to catch himself on the stone side; just out of sight of his opponent.

He's done his research, now let's see if he can tell real from fake. he thought as he pricked his finger on a sharp-edge of his belt-buckle.

((I'd like to put a point in here that they never specified how much blood was needed, nor that you needed to use blood while preforming the handseals.))

Ninpou: Summoning Art

He slammed his hand onto the bride and, as he felt the gate began to open, Tougura began his second set of handseals.

Kamikaze Bushin: Razorwind Varient

The faint sound of his clones fading into existence could be heard from his position, but it was doubtful Westly could hear. From his opponent's standpoint, it would just appear as three, bloodthirsty wolves had leaped out from the side of the bridge and began a charge for him.

One wolf shouldn't could as lethal...if he catches it in time.

Though still a little sor from his hound using him a** a springboard, the boy allowed his body to drift further down and latch onto the underside of bridge. Assuming Westly was being kept busy by the wolf/(ves) above, Tougura would have ample time to, at the very least, locate the main supports of the bridge and plan his next course of action.

((request Chaos' assistance to describe the underside of the bridge. I mean, I assume we are on something resembling the "Great Naruto Bridge" in the mist arc but, it would still be helpful.))

* Interrupt Attack *

"Oh, I'll help, then," Tougura heard faintly as he drifted over the side. As he was summoning the wolves, he looked up to see a pair of lit fireworks flying after him, rigged to explode in midair around where Westly had last seen Tougura, which was dangerous close to where Tougura was still standing. Floating?

"I'm a helper!" Westly called after him. He left a quick illusion of himself there, just a simple decoy, fairies included, and then ran to the other side of the bridge... and kept running. Westly's chakra strength was garbage, which meant that, on the flipside, his chakra control was one of the best in the village. Although Westly didn't know Tougura's exact position, he was precisely opposite his opponent, perched on the other side of the bridge, over the edge.

(( OOC: Yes, fireworks. They're a lot like bombs, except much, much prettier. ))

(( I knew it would come to this. Time for some SHINOBI MATH!!!! or...sort of math. I don't know. Technically, we're, almost, on opposite sides of a bridge expanding, at the very least, 30-50 feet in width, decided by Chaos' use of the word "giant" in the sense that this is Chaos calling something giant. Assuming you didn't light the fireworks until I went over the edge, as an Ichijin's movement in the air is considered a minor action and direction can be changed in any given instant, it would take more time to light and launch the fireworks than it would for me to complete both jutsu and go to the underside of the bridge. Unless, that is, you were to go over the other side of the bridge and launch them, the worst I would receive is hearing the blast take out the chunk of the bridge I was just standing on. Then again, would you have the sense to do that instead of thinking "oh s**t there's three wolves after me! If I leave THEM alone, I'll be in trouble when I come back up." ))

edit: (( stop changing your post while I'm in the middle of writing walls of text <.< *reads through* ))

edit 2: ((okay never mind, your changes don't effect my point any ))

edit 3: ((it's the treewalking jutsu. The flat sides of the bridge would just seem to make excellent platforms to walk on, in my opinion))

(( Westly's fireworks use something similar to an explosive tag as a fuse, which lets him light them in an instant. He tosses them as one of his standard thrown weapons. It takes no more time than it would to toss a rock after Tougura. Tougura went out of sight, so Westly tossed a rock after him. That rock happened to be of the sort that explodes in mid-air in a cascade of sparkliness. Also, I was more leaning towards the explosion preventing Tougura from successfully completing the wolf jutsu. If he managed to get it off, they're getting one as well. Assuming they don't attack the decoy.

I frequently change my posts within the first ten minutes or so after I post them. ))

(( Well, if they are a thrown projectile, it would be easier to start-up, but, as you've emphasized Westly's lack of physical strength on quite a few occasions, the projectile would, after all was said and done, reach Tougura slower than an automatically-launched projectile would; still allowing him to complete his jutsu before the explosive reached his position. ))

edit: (( they would probably attack the decoy; unless you were still within a visible range of them.
