Name: Hana
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Rank: Weyrlingmaster
Appearance: Hana has shoulder-length, slightly curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. She posesses a very angular bone structure and a rather unathletic appearance. The left side of her body bears threadscore scars, though most are cover by her clothing; the only visible one is a thin vertical mark on her jaw, about half way between her chin and ear.
Personality: Hana is a good-natured woman, but can be deadly serious when the situation calls for it. She takes her responsibilities and duties seriously, but she also believes that one has to play as well as work. Hana has become a remarkably strong believer in this theory ever since she was injured during threadfall. Another recent change to Hana's personality is that she has become more noticibly self-depreciating and insecure.
She always enjoys gatherings and parties, but typically drinks more than she should. Hana can drink quite a bit, but she quickly throws her inhibitions out the window; this typically allows her to do plenty of stupid things before calling it a night—or in the worse cases, passing out completely.
Hana has a soft spot for children, which she realizes might complicate her newrole as weyrling master. She doesn't want to be too tough on her soon-to-be charges, but she also knows that if they aren't trained well enough, the blame will lie on her shoulders alone.
History: Hana grew up in Telgar Weyr. Her father was a bronzerider and her mother a cook in the weyr's kitchens who died giving birth to Hana. As a child surrounded by dragons all her life, Hana wanted nothing more than to grow up and impress a gold dragon. However, life rarely goes as planned. Hana was indeed chosen as a canadate during her fifteenth turn, but her life took an unexpected turn when a brown dragon scrambled over to the gold candidates and face planted right at Hana's feet. Though he never said as much, Hana suspects her father was disappointed in the color of dragon that impressed on her. Hana, on the other hand, quickly became attached to her new dragon.
Hana's life took another unexpected--and much more tragic--turn when thread began to fall again two turns ago. Hana's father was one of the riders killed in the first half-expected threadfalls. Barely another turn had passed before Hana herself was injured during a threadfall. Somehow she survived, but her left side still bares the scars of threadscore, and she walks with a limp in her left leg.
After spending most of the past turn recovering, Hana was assigned to assist the then-weyrling master in training the new weyrlings. When he recently stepped down from his position, Hana took over. This next clutch will provide the first weyrlings that Hana has been entirely responsible for on her own.
Hana carries a cane most of the time, though she really only needs it if she has been on her feet all day. The previous weyrling master confided in her that she might use it to beat some sense into her charges if necessary, but Hana hasn't decided whether or not she could manage that.
Pet(s): None
Other: Hana gives goldriders the respect they are due, especially weyrwomen; however, her attitude is usually colder toward goldriders than most other dragonriders. Those close to her might recognize this as a bit of residual resentment--both because of her childhood wish and her thread injury.
